NVIDIA Quadro M520
La Nvidia Quadro M520 è una scheda grafica DirectX 12 (FL 11_0) ed OpenGL 4.5-compatibile per workstations mobile. E' una GPU Maxwell-based realizzata sul chip GM108 con 384 shader cores e realizzata in 28 nm da TSMC. Questo significa che è simile alla Quadro M500M (DDR3) ma usa una memoria GDDR5 più veloce. La GeForce 940MX con memoria GDDR5 è la variante consumer della Quadro M520.
La serie Quadro offre drivers certificati ottimizzati per stabilità e performance con applicazioni professionali come CAD o DCC. Le prestazioni OpenGL, ad esempio, dovrebbero essere nettamente migliori rispetto alle schede grafiche GeForce con specifiche simili.
Rispetto alla Kepler, la Maxwell è stata ottimizzata in molti dettagli per migliorare l'efficienza energetica. Multiprocessori Streaming più piccoli (SMM) con appena 128 ALUs (Kepler: 192) e scheduler ottimizzato dovrebbe consentire un miglior utilizzo degli shaders. Nvidia promette che una Maxwell SMM con 128 ALUs può offrire il 90% di prestazioni di una Kepler SMX con 192 ALUs. Il GM108 ha 3 SMMs e quindi 384 shader cores, 24 TMUs e 8 ROPs (interfaccia 64-bit).
Un'altra ottimizzazione è la cache L2 nettamente ampliata. La dimensione maggiore può ridurre in parte il traffico di memoria per consentire una interfaccia di memoria relativamente più piccola senza impattare sulle prestazioni.
Il GM108 supporta DirectX 11.2 (solo livello 11.0) e anche DirectX 12.
Attualmente le velocità clock non sono note per la variante M520. Dovrebbero essere simili alla 940 MX con GDDR5. Pertanto, le performance dovrebbero essere simili alla Quadro K620M.
Il set di feature dovrebbe includere il supporto fino a quattro displays. Possono essere collegati monitors high-resolution fino a 3840x2160 pixels tramite DisplayPort 1.2 o HDMI 1.4a (HDMI 2.0 non supportata). I codecs HD-Audio, come Dolby TrueHD e DTS-HD, possono essere trasmessi in modalità bitstream tramite la porta HDMI. Tuttavia, poiché la maggioranza di portatili userà Optimus, la GPU integrata molto probabilmente avrà il controllo diretto sulle porte display e potrebbe limitare il set di feature disponibile per le schede Nvidia Kepler.
Usando CUDA o OpenCL, i cores della Quadro M520 possono essere usati per calcoli generici.
Il GM108 integra la sesta generazione di motori video PureVideo HD (VP6), offrendo migliori prestazioni di decodifica per videos H.264 e MPEG-2. Ovviamente, il VP6 supporta tutte le features delle precedenti generazioni (supporto 4K, PIP, codifica video tramite NVENC API).
Il consumo energetico della Quadro M520 ha un TGP da 25 Watt (consumo massimo di energia compresa memoria e scheda). Leggermente meno rispetto la M500M da 30 Watt. Pertanto, la GPU è più adatta per portatili da 13 - 14" o superiori. La M500M supporta anche Optimus per lo switch automatico tra scheda grafica integrata e GPU Nvidia.
