La GPU per laptop NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 (nome in codice GN21-X9) è una GPU per laptop di fascia alta. Si basa sul chip AD104 come la RTX 4070 Ti desktop e utilizza l'architettura Ada Lovelace. Il chip AD104 offre un massimo di 7.680 shader (ad esempio, l'RTX 4070 Ti Desktop) di cui l'RTX 4080 Laptop ne utilizza 7.424 e un bus di memoria da 192 Bit. L'RTX 4080 mobile utilizza una memoria grafica dedicata GDDR6 da 12 GB con una velocità di clock di 16 o 20 Gbps (effettiva). Il TGP (Total Graphics Power) può essere configurato tra 60 e 150 Watt (+ 25 Watt Dynamic Boost dalla CPU) portando a diversi livelli di prestazioni (la RTX 4070 Ti desktop utilizza 285 Watt per i confronti). La velocità del boost clock varia da 1350 MHz (a 60 Watt TGP) fino a 2280 MHz (150 W). Pertanto, le prestazioni dipendono molto anche dall'impostazione di potenza utilizzata per l'RTX 4080 mobile nel portatile.
Le prestazioni sintetiche dell'RTX 4080 sono chiaramente superiori a quelle dell'RTX 3080 Ti mobile nei nostri test e superate solo dall'RTX 4090 mobile. Nei giochi reali abbiamo visto che anche i giochi più impegnativi con Raytracing abilitato (come F1 23) potevano essere riprodotti in QHD e impostazioni massime. I giochi meno impegnativi come Baldur's Gate 3 possono essere giocati fluentemente in 4k (vedi risultati sotto).
L'RTX 4080 offre 232 tensor core (4a generazione) che abilitano DLSS 3 inclusa la generazione di frame per i giochi supportati. Inoltre, 58 core di raytracing (4a generazione) possono essere utilizzati per gli effetti di raytracing nei giochi supportati.
Il chip AD103 è prodotto in 5 nm presso TSMC (processo 4N).
