AMD Radeon HD 8770M

L'AMD Radeon HD 8770M (nota anche come ATI Mobility Radeon HD 8770) è una scheda grafica DirectX 11.1 per portatili. Si basa sul chip Mars (28nm architettura GCN) con 384 shader cores, 24 TMUs, ed 8 ROPs. Il core ha un clock da 775 MHz (o fino a 825 MHz con il Boost) e con VRAM GDDR5 da 1125 MHz (4500 MHz effettivi).

Le prestazioni della Radeon HD 8770M dovrebbero essere al livello della GeForce GT 650M. I giochi attuali e pesanti come Far Cry 3 dovrebbero girare in modo fluido con dettagli e risoluzione medie.

I 384 shaders possono essere utilizzati con OpenCL 1.2 per calcoli generici (come 6 compute units). Rispetto ai vecchi chips TeraScale 2, l'architettura Mars GCN-based offre prestazioni migliori in questo scenario.

Le features della 8770M includono il decoding video tramite UVD3 per la decodifica di videos MPEG-4 AVC/H.264, VC-1, MPEG-2, e Flash direttamente con la GPU AMD. Ora sono compatibili anche i videos HD Multi-View Codec (MVC) e MPEG-4 part 2 (DivX, xVid).

La serie 8700M supporta anche lo switching grafico automatico tra la GPU integrata e la GPU dedicata. Si chiama tecnologia Enduro, sostituisce la AMD Dynamic Switchable Graphics ed è simile alla NvidiaOptimus. Inoltre, la 8770M può supportare direttamente fino a 6 monitors collegati usando la Eyefinity Technology se la Enduro è disabilitata.

Altre features della serie 8700M includono lo ZeroCore per la riduzione dei consumi energetici quando il display è spento ed il Power Gating per ridurre la potenza delle aree del chip che non sono utilizzate. Il PowerTune consente l'overclocking e l'underclocking automatico della scheda grafica fino a quando la GPU resta nei limiti del suo TDP. Ad esempio, il chip potrebbe effettuare l'underclock quando si fa girare FurMark ed OCCT, oppure effettuare l'overclock in alcuni giochi come Lost Planet, Crysis o Resident Evil 5.

Il processore audio HD integrato è in grado di trasmettere HD Audio (TrueHD o DTS Master Audio) tramite HDMI e DisplayPort (i.e., per videos Blu-Ray). In aggiunta, ora consente l'uscita audio simultanea ed in parallelo su più dispositivi con la nuova feature Discrete Digital Multipoint Audio (DDMA).

Il consumo energetico dovrebbe essere simile a quello della vecchia HD 7670M. Di conseguenza, la 8770M è più adatto a portatili da 13 pollici o superiori.
