ATI Radeon HD 4250

La AMD ATI Radeon HD 4250 (a volte chiamata anche ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250) è un chip grafico integrato (memoria condivisa) nel chipset RS880M. Si basa sul core grafico HD 3400 e sfrutta il motore video UVD 2 per la decodifica di video HD. Rispetto alla HD 4200, la 4250 offre prestazioni simili, ma il consumo energetico dovrebbe essere leggermente migliore.

Rispetto alla vecchia HD 3200, la 4250 supporta DirectX 10.1 e sfrutta il decoder video UVD2.

Il motore video UVD 2 è in grado di decodificare videos HD (H.264 e VC-1 in tutte le fasi, MPEG-2 solo in IDCT) e consente una fluida proiezione di videos HD (es. Blu-ray) con una utilizzazione di CPU relativamente contenuta (chiamato Avivo HD). L'UVD 2 nella HD 4250 supporta la decodifica di due flussi video e di conseguenza ha un completo supporto per il Blu-Ray.


Il core grafico della HD 4250 deriva dalla serie Mobility Radeon HD 3400 e di conseguenza gestisce il DirectX 10.1. A causa dell'assenza di memoria grafica, e prestazioni della scheda sono leggermente inferiori rispetto ad una HD 34x0. Teoricamente, chips con memoria dedicata possono essere aggiunti direttamente al chip, rendendola una scheda grafica dedicata. A causa dei costi non è chiaro se qualche produttore aggiungerà della memoria al chip.

Le prestazioni 3D dipendono fortemente dal processore utilizzato. Con una veloce CPU Phenom II ad esempio i giochi meno impegnativi come Left 4 Dead o Starcraft 2 sono giocabili con settaggi e risoluzione bassi. Con le lente CPU della V-Series tuttavia, solo i giochi datati come Doom 3 o Quake 4 dovrebbero essere giocabili. Rispetto alle vecchie schede grafiche integrate (es., GMA 4500MHD), la HD 4250 è molto più veloce. La nuova Intel HD Graphics delle CPUs Core ix Arrandale, offre prestazioni simili, ma i supporto driver di AMD dovrebbe essere migliore.

La mobile Radeon HD 4250 dovrebbe essere identica alla versione desktop (desktop con un valore clock minimamente superiore), sebbene i processori più veloci utilizzati nei sistemi desktop dovrebbero comportare benchmarks migliori.
