Recensione della Scheda Grafica PNY GeForce GTX 1660 XLR8 Gaming OC: una piccola GPU per PC compatti

Una buona alternativa 1080p.

La GeForce GTX 1660 colma il divario tra la GTX 1650 e la GTX 1660 Ti, anche se NVIDIA ha ora rilasciato anche i gusti SUPER delle GTX 1650 e GTX 1660. La GTX 1660 viene fornita con 6 GB di GDDR5 VRAM, mentre la PNY XLR8 Gaming OC ha un TDP relativamente economico di 120 W. NVIDIA posiziona la GeForce GTX 1660 tra le GTX 1650 e GTX 1660 Ti non solo in termini di prezzo ma anche di prestazioni. Come suggerisce il nome, la GPU non ha cores ray-tracing, che NVIDIA si riserva per la serie RTX.

NVIDIA ha incluso un connettore di alimentazione a 8 pin sulla GTX 1660 in quanto richiede un po' più potenza sotto carico rispetto alla sorella entry-level Turing, la GTX 1650. Tuttavia, la GTX 1660 ha meno shaders e unità di texture rispetto alla GTX 1660 Ti, insieme alla GDDR5 piuttosto che alla GDDR6 VRAM. Di conseguenza, la GTX 1660 ha una larghezza di banda di memoria inferiore rispetto alla GTX 1660 Ti, anche se entrambe operano sullo stesso bus di memoria. La GTX 1660 è in vantaggio rispetto alla GTX 1660 Ti in termini di velocità di clock. Entrambi hanno anche 6 GB di VRAM.

Sistema di Test - AMD Ryzen 9 3900X come base

Abbiamo accoppiato la XLR8 Gaming OC con una scheda madre MSI MEG X570 Godlike e un processore AMD Ryzen 9 3900X per i nostri test. Il Ryzen 9 3900X offre prestazioni eccellenti, come abbiamo scoperto nella nostra recensione all'inizio di quest'anno, e abbiamo usato un Be Quiet Silent Loop 280 mm AIO per mantenerlo fresco. Abbiamo anche utilizzato 16 GB di G-Skill Trident Z Royal Gold RAM che abbiamo lasciato con clock a 3.600 MHz su CL16-16-16-36. Velocità Clock - un boost clock superiore alle velocità di riferimento NVIDIA

L'XLR8 Gaming OC rimane vicino alle velocità di clock di riferimento NVIDIA. La scheda può raggiungere i 1.830 MHz, 45 MHz in più del clock di riferimento di 1.785 MHz. Il suo clock di base da 1.530 MHz è invariato, così come la sua velocità di clock VRAM da 2.000 MHz. Di conseguenza, l'XLR8 Gaming OC ha la stessa larghezza di banda di memoria di 192,1 GB/s delle altre schede GTX 1660.

Synthetic Benchmarks - Tiene il passo con la Radeon RX 570

La XLR8 Gaming OC si è comportata come previsto nei benchmarks sintetici, in particolare collocandosi tra la GTX 1650 e la GTX 1660 Ti. Tuttavia, il divario tra la nostra unità di prova e la GTX 1660 Ti è compreso tra il 10 e il 30%. Tuttavia, la nostra unità di prova ottiene punteggi fino al 60% in più della GTX 1650, con le maggiori lacune che si verificano a risoluzioni più elevate a causa dei 2 GB aggiuntivi di VRAM che ha la GTX 1660.

Rispetto ad AMD, la XLR8 Gamin OC si comporta approssimativamente alla pari con la AMD Radeon RX 570. Mentre il primo corrisponde al secondo nella maggior parte dei casi, l'RX 570 ha occasionalmente un vantaggio a causa della maggiore quantità di VRAM.

L'XLR8 Gaming OC ha convinto anche nei nostri test di gioco. La GPU fatica a 1440p e 2160p, quindi consigliamo di utilizzarla solo per i giochi a 1080p. Anche se la GPU è limitata in questo senso, supera la GTX 1650 in misura ancora maggiore rispetto ai benchmarks sintetici, come dimostrano le nostre tabelle seguenti.

La nostra unità di prova colma il divario anche con la GTX 1660 Ti, anche se si prega di tenere a mente che abbiamo testato quest'ultima su un sistema di test più lento. Al contrario, le nostre GPU di confronto della generazione Polaris faticano a tenere il passo con la XLR8 Gaming OC. Anche la XFX RX 590 non è all'altezza della nostra unità di prova, il che è piuttosto sorprendente. Solo le GPU Navi superano la XLR8 Gaming OC delle nostre schede di confronto AMD, ma queste sono molto più costose dell'offerta PNY.

In breve, la XLR8 Gaming OC offre buone prestazioni di gioco. La scheda può anche gestire gli ultimi giochi tripla A come Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, GRID (2019) o Need for Speed Heat in 1080p. Nel frattempo, titoli meno impegnativi in termini di risorse come FIFA 20 possono essere giocati anche a 2160p.

Abbiamo anche guardato come si comporta la scheda sotto carico sostenuto eseguendo The Witcher 3 sull'ultra preset a 1080p per un'ora. Come dimostra il grafico sottostante, il sistema di raffreddamento integrato mantiene la GPU sufficientemente fredda in modo da reggere le massime prestazioni per periodi prolungati. La nostra unità di prova ha oscillato solo tra 54 e 59 FPS durante questo test, quindi non si dovrebbe notare alcun calo delle prestazioni nelle lunghe sessioni di gioco. Anche i tempi di frame non sono stati degni di nota.

Emissioni - Rumorosa, ma non c'è coil whine

PNY ha impostato il TDP della XLR8 Gaming OC a 120 W, lo stesso che ha la GTX 1660 Ti. Tuttavia, quest'ultima offre migliori prestazioni per watt grazie al suo maggior volume di unità shader e texture. Avere VRAM GDDR6 invece di GDDR5 aiuta la GTX 1660 Ti ad allontanarsi dalla GTX 1660.

Il nostro sistema di prova consuma poco meno di 80 W a regime minimo, un valore che aumenta a 248 W sotto carico sostenuto. Tra l'altro, il PNY consente di aumentare la potenza target (PT) della GPU al 107%, che si traduce in un TDP di picco di 128,4 W. Lo abbiamo confermato durante i nostri test, mentre il nostro sistema di test ha raggiunto il picco di 258 W anche sotto carico.

Durante i nostri test non abbiamo riscontrato alcun problema di temperatura con l'XLR8 Gaming OC. Le temperature interne hanno raggiunto il picco di 76 °C anche con il suo PT impostato al 107%, anche se il PCB ha raggiunto 86 °C. Tuttavia, questo è ancora entro limiti di sicurezza. Riducendo il PT al 100%, le temperature sono scese a 80 °C anche sul retro del PCB.

Inoltre, la ventola della GPU è meno rumorosa quando è al 100% di PT, ma la nostra unità di prova è sempre relativamente rumorosa. Durante i nostri test, però, non abbiamo sentito alcun coil whine.

Chiunque abbia un budget di circa 250 euro (~$276) per una nuova scheda grafica prima o poi si imbatterà prima o poi in una GeForce GTX 1660. La PNY GeForce GTX 1660 XLR8 Gaming OC può gestire tutti i titoli moderni con una grafica di almeno 1080p e al massimo. Mentre la scheda è in grado di giocare alcuni giochi come FIFA 20 a 2160p, la GTX 1660 offre prestazioni per watt peggiori rispetto alla GTX 1660 Ti. Questo è da aspettarsi, dato che le due schede condividono lo stesso TDP, ma la GTX 1660 Ti è in vantaggio in molte altre specifiche.

La PNY GeForce GTX 1660 XLR8 Gaming OC costa circa 225 euro (~$249) al momento della recensione, e dovrebbe adattarsi alla maggior parte dei PC compatti. I suoi 6 GB di VRAM non limitano la scheda, dato che la nostra unità di prova ha tenuto testa alla AMD Radeon RX 570, che ha altri 2 GB di VRAM.

Se siete indecisi sulla XLR8 Gaming OC, allora vale la pena ricordare che la scheda non è la più silenziosa sul mercato. Possiamo sentire la nostra unità di prova girare in un case chiuso, quindi vi consigliamo di acquistare una versione a doppia ventola se siete intenzionati ad avere una macchina silenziosa.

    La PNY GeForce GTX 1660 XLR8 Gaming OC offre un eccellente rapporto qualità-prezzo. Tuttavia, non raggiunge le prestazioni per watt che offre la GeForce GTX 1660 Ti.

Nel complesso, abbiamo apprezzato le prestazioni offerte dalla PNY GeForce GTX 1660 XLR8 Gaming OC. NVIDIA ha quasi un campo libero attualmente in quanto AMD non ha portato sul mercato nessuna nuova GPU a prezzi accessibili. Anche se questo potrebbe cambiare presto, le schede Polaris rimangono le uniche alternative alla serie GeForce GTX 16 di NVIDIA.
