La Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 è una scheda grafica veloce per computer desktop. Si basa sul chip GA106 Ampere e offre 12 GB di memoria grafica GDDR6 con un bus di memoria a 192 bit. Dispone di 3.584 core e supporta lo standard PCIe 4.0.
Le prestazioni sono simili a quelle della precedente GeForce RTX 2070 e, pertanto, la scheda è particolarmente adatta per giocare a 1080p a titoli moderni e impegnativi con impostazioni elevate (nel 2021).
Il chip GA106 offre 3.840 ALU FP32, metà delle quali può eseguire anche istruzioni INT32 (ovvero 1.920 ALU INT32). Con Turing, tutti gli shader potevano ancora eseguire istruzioni FP32 o INT32. Secondo Nvidia, sono stati migliorati anche i core di ray tracing e i core tensor presenti sul chip. I chip Ampere includono inoltre un codificatore video di quinta generazione migliorato (NVENC per H.264 e H.265) e un decodificatore di settima generazione (per vari formati, tra cui ora anche l’AV1).
Il chip GA106 è prodotto da Samsung con processo a 8 nm (8N), che non è del tutto in grado di tenere il passo con il nodo a 7 nm di TSMC (ad esempio utilizzato da AMD e anche per il chip Ampere GA100 di fascia professionale). Il TDP della RTX 3060 è specificato a 170 Watt ed è quindi leggermente superiore a quello della precedente RTX 2060 (160 Watt).
