Recensione della GPU Desktop KFA2 GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER: anche la serie GTX 16 riceve un SUPER upgrade

E' tutto SUPER? NVIDIA ha ora ampliato i suoi aggiornamenti SUPER di media generazione alla serie GTX 16, avendo inizialmente riservato gli aggiornamenti per la serie RTX 20. Il team verde non sta producendo versioni di riferimento della sua serie GTX 16 SUPER, quindi abbiamo invece messo alla prova un'unità KFA2. Continuate a leggere per scoprire cos'è la SUPER sulle ultime GPU desktop di fascia media di NVIDIA.

Non sorprende che la NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER sia più veloce della normale GeForce GTX 1660. Tuttavia, è anche minimamente più lenta della GeForce GTX 1660 Ti. Di conseguenza, i partner add-in-board (AIB) stanno valutando la GTX 1660 SUPER tra i due. KFA2 ci ha gentilmente fornito una GTX 1660 SUPER da testare, che attualmente è venduta al dettaglio a 235 euro (~US$259). L'azienda richiede altri 30 euro (~33 dollari) per la GeForce GTX 1660 Ti e poco meno di 200 euro (~220 dollari) per la normale GeForce GTX 1660.

NVIDIA basa la GTX 1660 Super sul TU116, un chip da 12 nm che utilizza su tutta la gamma GTX 1660. Poco separa le tre GPU su carta, ma ci sono alcune peculiarità. La GTX 1660 SUPER fa il passo avanti alla GDDR6 VRAM, ponendola alla pari con la GeForce GTX 1660 Ti e davanti alla normale GeForce GTX 1660, che ha invece la GDDR5. La GTX 1660 SUPER ha anche una larghezza di banda di memoria molto più alta di entrambe le altre GPU, insieme a un TDP di 5 W più alto. Anche la GTX 1660 SUPER condivide le stesse velocità di clock della normale GeForce GTX 1660, dandogli un moderato boost rispetto alla GeForce GTX 1660 Ti. Tuttavia, la GTX 1660 SUPER ha meno core CUDA e unità di texture rispetto alla GeForce GTX 1660 Ti, offrendo a quest'ultima un vantaggio in termini di prestazioni.

La GTX 1660 SUPER richiede un connettore di alimentazione dedicato, in quanto il connettore PCIe può fornire solo fino a 75 W. Quindi, KFA2 ha incluso un connettore di alimentazione a 8 pin, come ha fatto PNY con la GeForce GTX 1660 che abbiamo recentemente recensito.

Sistema di Test - AMD Ryzen 9 3900X come base

Abbiamo accoppiato la GTX 1660 SUPER con una scheda madre MSI MEG X570 Godlike e un processore AMD Ryzen 9 3900X per i nostri test. La Ryzen 9 3900X offre prestazioni eccellenti, come abbiamo scoperto nella nostra recensione all'inizio di quest'anno, e abbiamo utilizzato un Be Quiet Silent Loop 280 mm AIO per mantenerlo fresco. Abbiamo anche utilizzato 16 GB di RAM G-Skill Trident Z Royal Gold che abbiamo lasciato con clock a 3.600 MHz su CL 16-16-16-36. Infine, abbiamo eseguito tutti i nostri benchmarks e test su un Acer Predator XB321HK, un monitor 4K che abbiamo utilizzato in molte delle nostre recensioni di gioco.

Velocità Clock - Un leggero vantaggio di clock rispetto alle velocità NVIDIA di riferimento

NVIDIA afferma che la GTX 1660 SUPER può aumentare fino a 1.785 MHz, ma KFA2 ha portato la sua scheda un po' più avanti. L'azienda non solo imposta la sua versione a 1.800 MHz, ma include anche un'opzione 1-Click-OC per consentire alla scheda di funzionare con un clock di base più alto. Secondo Xtreme Tuner, il 1-Click-OC innalza il clock di base di 15 MHz da 1.530 MHz a 1.545 MHz. KFA2 non ha toccato la VRAM, quindi la scheda ha ancora una larghezza di banda massima di memoria di 336 GB/s.

Benchmarks Sintetici - Appena dietro la GTX 1660 Ti

I benchmarks sintetici vi danno un assaggio di ciò che ci si può aspettare dalla KFA2 GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER. La scheda grafica si trova proprio dietro la GeForce GTX 1660 Ti, con solo il 6% circa che generalmente separa le due. Tuttavia, la AMD Radeon RX 590 ha un vantaggio rispetto all'ultima scheda di fascia media di NVIDIA, anche se di circa il 2%. È necessario passare a una GeForce RTX 2060 o Radeon RX 5700 se si vogliono costantemente più prestazioni di quelle offerte dalla GTX 1660 SUPER, ma queste due schede sono anche molto più costose della nostra unità di test.

La KFA2 GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER ci ha convinto delle sue credenziali anche nei nostri test di gioco. La nostra unità di prova offre generalmente tra il 10 e il 20% di frame rate in più rispetto alla normale GeForce GTX 1660, il che la rende più adatta ai giochi a 1080p con impostazioni grafiche elevate o ultra-elevate rispetto al suo fratello minore. Infatti, alcuni titoli come Dota 2 Reborn, FIFA 20, e Rocket League rimangono giocabili a 4K.

In termini di prestazioni relative, la GTX 1660 SUPER è generalmente inferiore alla GeForce GTX 1660 Ti. Le nostre classifiche sono in qualche modo distorte dal benchmarking della GTX 1660 SUPER in un sistema più potente di quello che abbiamo usato per la nostra recensione della GeForce GTX 1660 Ti. Tuttavia, la Radeon RX 590 aveva anche la misura della GTX 1660 SUPER.

In sintesi, la KFA2 GeForce GTX 1660 Super è abbastanza potente da riprodurre tutti i titoli tripla-A più complessi, ma con una grafica massima di 1080p. Solo pochi titoli come Anno 1800 e Metro Exodus hanno una media inferiore a 60 FPS, ma l'abbassamento della grafica preimpostata a livelli elevati incrementa il frame rate medio al di sopra della soglia dei 60 FPS.

Emissioni - 125 W e fresco sotto carico, ma un po' rumoroso

La GTX 1660 SUPER ha un TDP da 125 W, come abbiamo detto prima. Mentre la scheda ha un TDP superiore di 5 W rispetto ai suoi fratelli GTX 1660, i nostri test hanno dimostrato che la KFA2 non ha richiesto più potenza della PNY GeForce GTX 1660. Il nostro sistema di test KFA2 GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER consuma poco meno di 85 W, come riferimento, mentre la media è stata di circa 248 W durante un test da sforzo FurMark. La nostra unità di prova non supporta l'aumento della sua potenza target (PT), quindi siete bloccati a 125 W. Abbiamo registrato il sistema con una media di 260 W durante il nostro test di resistenza The Witcher 3.

Sebbene la GTX 1660 SUPER sia efficiente quanto la normale GeForce GTX 1660, non può eguagliare la GeForce GTX 1660 Ti. Non solo la Ti è più potente, ma in genere consuma meno energia della sorella SUPER, dandogli più prestazioni per watt. La differenza tra le due schede è comunque minore.

La KFA2 GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER ha raggiunto un picco di 72 °C durante il nostro stress test, che è ben lungi dall'essere una temperatura critica. Nel frattempo, il retro della scheda ha raggiunto i 55 °C. Va notato però che la piastra posteriore non raffredda direttamente il PCB, in quanto non ci sono pastiglie termiche tra i due componenti. Al contrario, sospettiamo che le due ventole assorbano il calore in eccesso dal PCB, permettendo alla piastra posteriore di rimanere più fredda della parte anteriore della scheda.

Le due ventole assiali sono udibili durante il gioco, ma in genere girano a circa 2.200 giri/min. Il margine termico della scheda dovrebbe consentire di ridurre leggermente la velocità della ventola, cosa che si può fare impostando una curva manuale della ventola.

Sebbene non sia possibile aumentare il PT della KFA2 GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER, la sua opzione 1-Click-OC permette di aumentare il clock di boost della GPU di 15 MHz. Tuttavia, il suo effetto è quasi impercettibile quando si gioca, dato che la GPU raramente opera al suo clock di base.

Tuttavia, abbiamo avuto un certo successo con l'overclocking manuale della nostra unità di prova. Durante i nostri test abbiamo ottenuto con successo un incremento della GPU a 150 MHz e un efficace overclock VRAM a 800 MHz. Questi overclock hanno raggiunto frame rate superiori del 5-10% rispetto al KFA2 impostato su livelli di stock. Realisticamente, questo non migliorerà il frame rate da balbettare a quello regolare. Tuttavia, un miglioramento del 5-10% avvicina la GTX 1660 SUPER alle prestazioni offerte dalla GeForce GTX 1660 Ti.

La KFA2 GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER colma il divario tra 200 Euro (~US$220) e 250 Euro (~US$275), con un prezzo della scheda di 235 Euro (~US$259). La GTX 1660 SUPER è una buona scheda grafica abbastanza potente per gestire tutti i moderni giochi tripla A in almeno 1080p. Alcuni titoli più semplici possono essere giocati anche in 4K.

Prima di acquistare, è meglio valutare quali giochi si gioca, e se avete bisogno di qualcosa di più potente. La GTX 1660 SUPER, ad esempio, non ha la potenza della GeForce GTX 1660 Ti nonostante abbia un TDP di 5 W in più. In definitiva, se volete giocare a risoluzioni più elevate, dovrete passare alla serie RTX 20 o RX 5700.

    La KFA2 GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER colpisce come una solida GPU desktop di fascia media. Se si può fare a meno di frivolezze, allora la GTX 1660 SUPER vi andrà bene.

Nel complesso, la KFA2 GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER ci ha convinto come una GPU desktop di fascia media decente. Ci piace anche che le ventole si spengono al minimo, il che non solo riduce il consumo energetico ma permette anche alla scheda di funzionare silenziosamente. Le due ventole rimangono relativamente silenziose anche sotto carico, il che è altrettanto impressionante. La scheda ha il potenziale per funzionare anche in modo ancora più silenzioso, dato che ha un margine termico per farlo. Nel complesso, la KFA2 GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER è un'eccellente GPU di fascia media ed è degna del nostro Editors Choice Award.
