La nuova gamma media: La GPU AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT Desktop è dotata di 12 GB di VRAM

Mid-range premium con RDNA2! Pochi mesi dopo il rilascio delle nuove GPU di fascia alta basate sull'architettura RDNA2, AMD ha ora rilasciato anche la versione più piccola sotto forma di AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT. Con i buoni risultati della serie 6800 alle spalle, le aspettative per il nuovo modello di fascia media sono alte. Questa recensione rivelerà se le prestazioni della GPU sono sufficienti per competere con la GeForce RTX 3070.

Sfortunatamente, il mercato delle schede grafiche è ancora in difficoltà, il che si riflette nella scarsissima disponibilità di varie schede grafiche. Se AMD riuscirà a evitare che la AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT subisca lo stesso destino, lo vedremo nel prossimo futuro.

Con la AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT, c'è ora una scheda grafica aggiuntiva basata sulla nuova architettura RDNA che ha fatto il suo debutto alla fine dello scorso anno. Tutte le nuove caratteristiche sono incluse nel nuovo modello di fascia media. Per esempio, c'è il supporto sia per SAM (Smart Access Memory) che per il ray tracing. Abbiamo ricevuto il modello di riferimento direttamente da AMD, e sembra essere abbastanza compatto rispetto alle schede grafiche attuali. Pertanto, non è necessario prestare molta attenzione alla compatibilità del case in questo caso. Tuttavia, le cose possono apparire diverse per i design personalizzati, che di solito sono anche dotati di un target di potenza superiore e, di conseguenza, un sistema di raffreddamento più grande.

Troviamo che la tendenza a installare più VRAM sia positiva. Grazie all'interfaccia di memoria a 192 bit, sono possibili 6 o 12 GB. Fortunatamente, AMD ha optato per la variante da 12 GB. Anche Nvidia ha fatto lo stesso passo con la GeForce RTX 3060. Questo toglie subito spazio alle critiche, dato che qui non abbiamo a che fare con una mortificazione della memoria con soli 6 GB di VRAM. Il chip grafico Navi 22 raggiunge frequenze di clock sorprendentemente alte, anche se la velocità di clock di base è solo 1.569 MHz. Tuttavia, il cosiddetto "game clock" è in realtà 2.424 MHz, e la velocità massima di boost è di ben 2.639 MHz. Siamo stati in grado di confermare tutte queste alte velocità di clock nella nostra recensione, anche se la velocità massima di boost è disponibile solo per poco tempo. La maggior parte del tempo, la GPU ha funzionato a 2.580 MHz durante il gaming.

In termini di consumo energetico, il consumo energetico della AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT è altrettanto frugale come quello della AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT. Con 230 watt (TGP), la scheda grafica non è eccessivamente affamata di energia. Per quanto riguarda la costruzione del modello di riferimento, si può dire che tutto sembra di alta qualità. Sia la parte anteriore che il backplate sono fatti di metallo e non sembrano cheap. Esteticamente, un logo "Radeon" illuminato decora la scheda grafica. AMD raccomanda di usare almeno un alimentatore da 650 watt per il funzionamento. La AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT offre una porta HDMI e tre DisplayPorts per collegare i monitor.

Il nostro sistema di test basato su AMD Ryzen 9 5900X

Una piattaforma AMD attuale basata sull'Asus X570 ROG Crosshair VIII Hero Wi-Fiserve è stata utilizzata come sistema di test. Benchmarks sintetici

In generale, la AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT fa una bella figura nei test sintetici. La AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT e la GeForce RTX 3070 (qui nella variante Gaming X Trio di MSI) si impegnano in un duello testa a testa. Entrambe le schede grafiche sono ugualmente veloci a seconda dello scenario, ma una o l'altra ha il vantaggio di tanto in tanto. Tuttavia, le prestazioni gaming sono ciò che conta alla fine, che affronteremo in una delle prossime sezioni.

La differenza di prestazioni rispetto alla vecchia AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT è chiara. La nuova AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT è quasi dal 30% al 40% più veloce. Tuttavia, la differenza di prestazioni rispetto alla AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT è sproporzionatamente più grande. In sua difesa, tuttavia, va detto che il gaming a 1440p è l'obiettivo primario della AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT, mentre la Radeon RX 6800 XT è pubblicizzata per il gaming a 4K.

Con la AMD Radeon RT 6700 XT, il produttore si rivolge principalmente ai giocgamers atori che giocano prevalentemente a 1440p. Possiamo confermare questa affermazione, e i numerosi test di gioco hanno dimostrato che la AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT può ancora eseguire titoli a risoluzione QHD senza essere sovraccaricata. "Ancora" è la parola chiave qui, perché la AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT pure era considerata una scheda grafica gaming 1440p al momento della sua uscita. Se diamo un'occhiata più da vicino al nuovo Hitman 3, per esempio, possiamo vedere che la AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT già fatica un po' con una media di 52 FPS. Le cose non sembrano migliori per la nostra GPU quando si tratta della popolare simulazione edilizia Anno 1800. Tuttavia, un miglioramento significativo delle prestazioni sotto forma di aggiornamenti dei driver è stato spesso visto in passato. Tuttavia, questi due giochi presentano uno scenario estremo che non è trasferibile a tutti i giochi testati. Molti giochi possono anche usati a 2160p con la nuova Radeon RX 6700 XT. Come al solito, AMD è avanti a volte e Nvidia ad altre nei test di gioco. Come sempre, usiamo il gioco The Witcher 3 (preset Ultra) per misurare i tempi e i frame rates. A parte una singola anomalia, non ci sono irregolarità in questo caso. I tempi di frame registrati sono sorprendentemente costanti e bassi nel nostro campione. La curva delle prestazioni dei fotogrammi al secondo registrati è relativamente stabile nel corso del test. Ciò significa che non c'è un calo notevole delle prestazioni durante le lunghe sessioni di gaming.

Prestazioni di calcolo

Abbiamo già stabilito che AMD è stata in grado di aumentare notevolmente le prestazioni di calcolo con l'architettura RDNA 2 nella nostra recensione della AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT. Rispetto alla AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT, anche la AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT mostra un miglioramento significativo, anche se entrambe le schede grafiche hanno lo stesso numero di core di calcolo. Tuttavia, la nostra scheda di test non può reggere il confronto con la concorrenza di Nvidia. La GeForce RTX 3070 è più veloce in alcuni casi.

La AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT se la cava bene con i 230 watt specificati (TGP). In confronto diretto con la AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT, il nostro esemplare di test è un po' più affamato di energia, anche se l'aumento è mantenuto entro i limiti a circa 20 watt. Rispetto alla Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070, la AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT è molto più efficiente dal punto di vista energetico nel nostro confronto. La nuova GPU di fascia media di AMD è un po' più frugale sia durante il gaming che nello stress test.

AMD si affida al design della serie 6800 per il raffreddamento. Tuttavia, AMD fornisce alla RX 6700 XT solo due ventole assiali che sono molto silenziose. In modalità 2D e sotto basso carico, stanno addirittura ferme, il che si adatta sicuramente agli utenti che sono sensibili al rumore. Tuttavia, le due ventole da 85 millimetri non accelerano mai sotto carico. Anche durante lo stress test, GPU-Z ha mostrato ben 1.700 giri al minuto. Con questo, la scheda grafica non era udibile al di fuori del nostro sistema di test. Le ventole del case erano più rumorose in questo scenario.

Siamo già stati in grado di vedere che il dispositivo di raffreddamento fa un buon lavoro guardando i frame rates. Questo si traduce in poco meno di 80 °C (~176 °F) per la GPU sotto carico. Tuttavia, c'è una temperatura hot spot di 96 °C (~205 °F). AMD specifica una temperatura massima del punto caldo di 110 °C (~230 °F). È probabile che la GPU rallenti in questo caso.

Nel complesso, i valori di emissione della AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT sono buoni, anche se la distanza dalla massima temperatura hot spot è un po' stretta. Resta da vedere come il modello si comporta nelle calde giornate estive.

Con la Radeon RX 6700 XT, AMD ha lanciato una scheda grafica veloce per il gaming a 1440p. Tutti i giochi più recenti possono essere riprodotti senza problemi nella risoluzione nativa senza compromettere la qualità. Tuttavia, la AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT è spesso superata dalla Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 nei test di gioco. Questo è particolarmente vero quando si tratta di caratteristiche come il ray tracing. Inoltre, AMD non ha ancora un'alternativa al DLSS di Nvidia. Tuttavia, la scheda grafica è veloce e dotata di 12 GB di VRAM, che è in linea con gli standard moderni. Nel frattempo, anche Nvidia si è resa conto di questo e ha recentemente introdotto la GeForce RTX 3060 con 12 GB di VRAM.

La nuova Radeon RX 6700 XT ha vita facile rispetto al suo predecessore, la AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT. Le prestazioni potrebbero essere migliorate significativamente in tutte le aree, anche se entrambe le schede grafiche sono dotate di 2.560 unità shader. Il vantaggio dell'architettura RDNA 2 può essere visto chiaramente qui, dal momento che l'aumento delle prestazioni non è stato ottenuto attraverso un maggiore consumo di energia. Entrambe le schede grafiche consumano un po' lo stesso nel test.

Con la nuova AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT, la fascia media ora ottiene un decente aumento delle prestazioni. Non sono stati tagliati gli angoli quando si tratta di VRAM, poiché la scheda grafica è molto ben equipaggiata con 12 GB.

I prossimi giorni dovranno mostrare se la AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT sarà un modello di successo, perché tutto dipende dalla disponibilità della nuova scheda grafica. I modelli concorrenti (RTX 3070) sono attualmente in vendita a 1.000 euro (~$1.198) e oltre. AMD ha specificato un prezzo di 479 euro (~$574) per la AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT. Resta da vedere quanto il modello costerà realmente alla fine. L'unico vantaggio che AMD ha contro Nvidia al momento è una migliore disponibilità, perché quest'ultima non ha alcuna alternativa al prezzo di poco meno di 500 euro (~$599) in questo momento.

Dopo che Nvidia ha cercato di rendere la GeForce RTX 3060 poco attraente per i minatori mettendo dei freni al mining di criptovalute, AMD avrebbe forse dovuto pensare anche ad un passo simile. Dopo tutto, un breve test ha mostrato che il tasso di hash di Ethereum (circa 45 MH/s) con la AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT è alla pari con una GeForce RTX 3060 non limitata. Questo è ancora un po' meno rispetto alla AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT, ma potrebbe ancora essere interessante per i miners.

Di conseguenza, gli utenti che stanno pianificando un aggiornamento della GPU dovrebbero fare in fretta prima che anche i prezzi della AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT raggiungano livelli utopici. Un calo di prezzo molto probabilmente non accadrà per molto tempo.

Tuttavia, la scheda grafica AMD è anche un'opzione di aggiornamento interessante se il sistema non ha una CPU recente. Le parole chiave "driver overhead" dovrebbero essere menzionate qui, perché le schede grafiche AMD raggiungono FPS più alti delle loro controparti Nvidia nel limite della CPU. Questo è un effetto collaterale molto positivo se non volete sostituire l'intero sistema.
