La MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio è la terza GPU che abbiamo ricevuto dal produttore taiwanese MSI. Testiamo a fondo questa scheda grafica. La RTX 2080 di MSI ha una scheda customizzata e una soluzione di raffreddamento proprietaria. La scheda video è inoltre dotata di un TDP da 260 watt, che le conferisce un piacevole incremento delle prestazioni rispetto al modello di riferimento.

La soluzione di raffreddamento Tri-Frozr è costituita da tre ventole assiali, che forniscono un flusso di aria fresca costante ad un massiccio dissipatore di calore. Questo è il motivo per cui la GPU richiede almeno 3 slot. Le tre ventole sono caratterizzate da un design assiale che aiuta ad accelerare il flusso d'aria prima che raggiunga il dissipatore di calore e i cuscinetti a doppia fila di sfere assicurano che il sistema di raffreddamento duri a lungo. La scheda video viene fornita anche con l'illuminazione Mystic RGB di MSI, che può essere molto bella nel case giusto.

La MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio ha tre connettori DisplayPort 1.4, una porta HDMI 2.0b e una porta USB Type-C per dispositivi VR. La GPU richiede due connettori di alimentazione a 8 pin.

Il Test Bench - Basato sulla Ryzen 7 2700X

Il nostro confronto si basa su una piattaforma AMD attuale. Il Gigabyte X470 Aorus Gaming 7 Wi-Fi serve come scheda madre. La CPU, nota come AMD Ryzen 7 2700X, offre prestazioni elevate. Il sistema è raffreddato da un sistema di raffreddamento all-in-one di Be Quiet (Silent Loop 280mm). 16 GB di RAM da 3400 MHz provengono da G-Skill. L'Acer Predator XB321HK non rappresenta un collo di bottiglia, grazie alla sua risoluzione 4K. Siamo molto grati ad AMD per averci fornito questo sistema.

I Core Clocks della MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio

L'MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio ha lo stesso core clock di base (1365 MHz) del modello di riferimento di Nvidia. Tuttavia, per quanto riguarda il boost clock, c'è una certa differenza. La scheda grafica MSI ha una frequenza di boost più elevata, grazie ad un TDP aumentato (fino a 260 watt). L'MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio è dotata di un boost clock di 1830 MHz, mentre il modello di riferimento ha un boost clock di 1515 MHz e un TDP di 215 watt. Il TDP massimo della scheda Founders Edition di Nvidia è di 225 watt e la frequenza massima di boost è di 1800 MHz.

Proprio come il modello di riferimento, l'MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio ha 8 GB di GDDR6 VRAM con clock ad una frequenza effettiva di 14 GHz.

Almeno sulla carta, l'MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio ha un aspetto migliore della GeForce RTX 2080 Founders Edition. Anche l'Asus ROG Strix GeForce RTX 2080 OC è sullo stesso livello dell'MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio.

Synthetic Benchmarks

Tutti i modelli RTX 2080 che abbiamo testato hanno prestazioni molto simili nei benchmark sintetici. Qui, la battaglia tra MSI e Asus si è conclusa senza che nessuna delle due GPUs sia stata un evidente vincitore. Rispetto alle GPUs basate su Pascal, la MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio è battuta con un piccolo margine dalla GeForce GTX 1080 Ti. La recente AMD Radeon VII batte facilmente la maggior parte delle GPU di Nvidia.

Rispetto alla MSI RTX 2070 Gaming Z 8G, la MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio è del 20% più veloce. Abbiamo notato un divario simile nelle prestazioni tra MSI RTX 2060 Gaming Z 6G e MSI RTX 2070 Gaming Z 8G.

L'MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio e l'Asus ROG Strix RTX 2080 OC si sfidano anche nei benchmarks di gioco. In questo caso, entrambe le GPUs offrono prestazioni molto simili, con l'MSI che di tanto in tanto batte l'Asus e viceversa. Non abbiamo incontrato alcun problema durante l'esecuzione dei benchmarks. Quasi tutti i titoli sono riproducibili in UHD. In alcuni titoli come "Metro Exodus", "Monsterhunter World" e "Kingdom Come Deliverance", i frame rate a volte scendono al di sotto dei 40 FPS, il che rende questi titoli un po' scattosi. Tuttavia, anche il Nvidia Titan RTX può raggiungere solo un frame rate medio di 49 FPS in "Kingdom Come Deliverance", che non è un miglioramento sconvolgente. In termini assoluti, qui la Nvidia Titan RTX è del 25% più veloce dell'MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio. Tuttavia, la GPU Titan costa tre volte di più della MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio.

Nel complesso, i benchmarks di gioco sembrano molto buoni. Non abbiamo riscontrato alcuna anomalia durante il processo di benchmarking.

Utilizziamo il videogioco noto come "The Witcher 3" per esaminare come si comporta la scheda grafica sotto carico. Facciamo girare il gioco con impostazioni ultra e registriamo sia il frame rate che il frame time. Se confrontato con l'MSI RTX 2070 Gaming Z 8G, il frame time performance dell'MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio sembra un po' peggiore. Nel complesso, ci sono alcune anomalie che hanno un impatto minimo sull'esperienza di gioco reale. Un'immagine molto simile emerge quando diamo un'occhiata alle prestazioni del frame rate. I frame rate rimangono a circa 100 FPS per la maggior parte del tempo e non ci sono notevoli cali di prestazioni di cui parlare. Questo è il motivo per cui diamo una valutazione positiva alla soluzione di raffreddamento a tripla ventola.

Coloro che non hanno specificamente bisogno di costose GPU Quadro di Nvidia possono utilizzare le tradizionali schede grafiche desktop per il lavoro professionale. Tuttavia, se confrontate con le GPUs Quadro supportate, queste schede video sono molto, molto indietro.

Le prestazioni di calcolo della MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio sono al livello atteso. A seconda del benchmark, la MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio è fino al 24% più veloce della MSI RTX 2070 Gaming Z 8G. L'AMD Radeon VII non ha problemi a tenere il passo con l'RTX 2080 e a volte la batte persino con un notevole margine. Tuttavia, occasionalmente è vero il contrario, perché di tanto in tanto la GPU da 7 nm di AMD viene superata dalla MSI RTX 2070 Gaming Z 8G.

Sotto carico, le emissioni sembrano piuttosto negative, a causa di un TDP massimo di 260 watt. Quando è inattivo, il sistema assorbe 88 watt, il che è normale se paragonato all'MSI RTX 2070 Gaming Z 8G e all'MSI RTX 2060 Gaming Z 6G. Durante lo stress test con FurMark, il consumo energetico aumenta fino a 402 watt. Tuttavia, quando abbiamo innalzato l'obiettivo di potenza dal 100% al 109%, il consumo medio ha raggiunto i 433 watt, con un assorbimento massimo di 460 watt. Durante il gioco, il sistema ha assorbito circa 405 watt.

Il grafico di confronto mostra che l'MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio è una divoratrice di energia. L'MSI RTX 2070 Gaming Z 8G aveva bisogno di molta meno potenza con lo stesso benchmark. Tuttavia, grazie a prestazioni molto elevate, l'MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio può ancora essere descritta come efficiente dal punto di vista energetico. Solo l'AMD Radeon RX Vega 64 e la Nvidia Titan RTX consumano più energia.

Durante il normale utilizzo, non abbiamo notato alcun problema termico (PT 100%). Le temperature hanno raggiunto il picco di 69 °C (156,2 °F) durante il nostro stress test. Quando abbiamo innalzato il limite di potenza al 109%, le temperature hanno raggiunto 71 °C (159,8 °F). L'MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio non ha raggiunto il limite di temperatura. Questo significa che la GPU non dovrebbe avere throttling a causa del surriscaldamento. Nel complesso, il sistema di raffreddamento Tri-Frozr funziona molto bene, motivo per cui la scheda grafica non si surriscalda e non diventa troppo rumorosa. La GPU produce solo un leggero ronzio. Overclocking - non molto potenziale

A differenza della MSI RTX 2070 Gaming Z 8G, la MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio ha un potenziale di overclocking molto inferiore. Siamo stati in grado di aumentare il core clock di 90 MHz e la velocità di memoria di 900 MHz. Il modello piccolo (MSI RTX 2070 Gaming Z 8G) poteva sostenere overclock molto più elevati. Molto di questo può essere spiegato dal fatto che l'MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio utilizza VRAM di Micron, mentre l'MSI RTX 2070 Gaming Z 8G utilizza VRAM di Samsung, che offre un po' più spazio per l'overclocking. Tuttavia, non ci sono garanzie quando si tratta di overclocking perché non si sa mai che tipo di chip si avrà.

L'ottima soluzione di raffreddamento ci dà un indizio che c'è ancora un po' più spazio per l'overclocking. Detto questo, l'MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio viene fornita con un overclock di fabbrica. Questo è il motivo per cui ha un vantaggio rispetto al modello di riferimento. L'obiettivo di potenza dell'MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio può essere aumentato del 9%, il che porta il TDP massimo a 283 watt.

Possiamo vedere i risultati dell'overclocking manuale riflessi nei benchmarks. Tuttavia, non c'è un aumento significativo delle prestazioni degno di nota. Attualmente, l'MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio è venduta a 840 euro (946 dollari). Se si passa un po' di tempo a cercare su Internet, è possibile trovare la GPU RTX 2080 che sono più economiche. Tuttavia, queste schede grafiche non offrono lo stesso livello di prestazioni della MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio. La scheda video MSI è dotata di un TDP superiore (260 watt), motivo per cui la GPU può ottenere un boost clock più elevato fino a 1860 MHz. La MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio è abbastanza potente per gestire giochi moderni in 4K. L'aumento del TDP e la buona soluzione di raffreddamento guadagnano ulteriori punti per la GPU e contribuiscono a migliorare le prestazioni.

Quindi, chi dovrebbe comprare l'MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio? A questa domanda non è facile rispondere. Questa GPU è destinata principalmente ai giochi 4K e coloro che attualmente giocano in 1080p o 1440p possono trovarsi benissimo senza l'MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio. Per tali giocatori qualcosa come una MSI RTX 2070 Gaming Z 8G o MSI RTX 2060 Gaming Z 6G dovrebbe bastare.
