Intel Core i7-8665U
L'Intel Core i7-8665U è un SoC quad-core a basso consumo energetico per notebook e Ultrabook basato sulla generazione Whiskey Lake che è stato annunciato nell'aprile 2019 come parte di due processori WHL-U abilitati vPro. Rispetto ai processori simili denominati Kaby Lake-R (ad esempio Core i7-8550U), le CPU di Whiskey Lake sono ora prodotte in un processore a 14nm ulteriormente migliorato (14nm++) e offrono velocità di clock più elevate. L'architettura e le caratteristiche sono le stesse. L'i7-8665U offre ad es. elevate velocità di clock Turbo di 4,8 GHz (contro i 4 GHz dell'i7-8550U) per un singolo core. La GPU integrata è ancora denominata Intel UHD Graphics 620 e il controller di memoria a doppio canale supporta ancora le stesse velocità di RAM di Kaby-Lake-R (DDR4-2400 / LPDDR3-2133). Rispetto al più lento Core i5-8265U e i3-8145U, l'i7 dovrebbe supportare Thermal Velocity Boost (come il Core i7-8565U, il predecessore).
I Whiskey Lake SoCs sono usati con un nuovo PCH prodotto in 14nm che supporta le parti USB 3.1 Gen 2 (10 Gbps) e CNVi WiFi/BT.
Intel utilizza fondamentalmente la stessa microarchitettura rispetto a Skylake e Kaby Lake, quindi le prestazioni per-MHz non differiscono. Ciò significa che Whiskey Lake è un chip Kaby Lake prodotto nel processo migliorato a 14nm++.
Le prestazioni dell'i7-8665U dipendono dalla soluzione di raffreddamento del laptop e dai limiti TDP definiti per le prestazioni a breve e lungo termine. Abbiamo già visto grandi differenze per Kaby Lake-R (ad esempio, i7-8550U benchmark), soprattutto per le prestazioni a lungo termine (sostenute). Pertanto, sarà interessante vedere come si può utilizzare la velocità di clock addizionaleTurbo. A causa del Turbo Boost superiore di 200 MHz, l'8665U dovrebbe superare l'i7-8565U (vedi per i benchmark).
L'integrato Intel UHD Graphics 620 (Intel Gen 9.5) non è stato modificato dai chip dell'8° Gen Kaby Lake. Con una veloce memoria a doppio canale può raggiungere le prestazioni di una GeForce 920M dedicata.
Contrariamente a Skylake, Kaby Lake e Whiskey Lake ora supporta anche H.265/HEVC Main 10 con una profondità di colore a 10 bit e il codec VP9 di Google. I processori dual-core Kaby Lake annunciati a gennaio dovrebbero supportare anche HDCP 2.2.
Il chip è prodotto in un processo a 14nm ulteriormente migliorato con transistor FinFET (14nm++), lo stesso dei processori dell'8° Gen Coffee Lake. Intel specifica ancora il TDP con 15 Watt, che è tipico dei chip ULV. A seconda dello scenario di utilizzo, il TDP può variare tra 7,5 (cTDP Down) e 25 Watt.
