Intel 620M

L'Intel Core i7-620M è una CPU dual core di fascia alta per portatili ed ha un clock (grazie al Turbo Mode) da 2.66 a 3.33 GHz. Ogni core si basa sulla micro architettura Nehalem (Westemere). L'Hyperthreading consente alla CPU Dual Core di gestire 4 threads contemporaneamente (per un migliore utilizzo delle pipeline).

Una feature della nuova Core i7-620M è la scheda grafica integrata chiamata Intel HD Graphics (GMA HD) ed il controller di memoria. Entrambi sono su una die separata realizzata sempre in 45nm mentre la CPU è già realizzata con il nuovo processo da 32nm.

Le prestazioni della Core i7-620M sono in media superiori alla precedenti CPU dual più veloci, le Core 2 Duo T9900 / X9100. Nei nostri tests, abbiamo riscontrato un punteggio inferiore soltanto nei testi di rendering single threaded del benchmark Cinebench R10. Anche il mobile Core i7-720QM quad core è più lento in molti casi.

Il cores CPU 32nm della generazione Westmere può eseguire anche alcune nuove istruzioni per accelerare l'AES encryptions. Rispetto alle versioni i5 più lente senza features AES, nel 3DMark Vantage Communication Score ha mostrato un significativo incremento con l'abilitazione dell'AES CPUs.

La scheda grafica integrata Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD (GMA HD) ha un clock da 500-733 MHz ed ha prestazioni nettamente più veloci rispetto alla vecchia GMA 4500MHD. Una GeForce 9400M (ION) dovrebbe essere ancora un po' più veloce (specialmente considerando che le schede Nvidia ed ATI hanno un migliore supporto driver rispetto ad Intel sino ad oggi).

Il consumo di energia di 35 Watt TDP (max.) vale per il pacchetto completo e di conseguenza è sicuramente meglio rispetto al TDP 35 Watt della serit T Core 2 Duo (solo CPU).

Il Core i7-620M non deve essere confuso con il chip i7-620LM che ha un nome simile ma è più lento ed è low voltage ed ultra low voltage (2.13-2.93 GHZ, 25W) ed il Core i7-620UM (1.2-2.26 GHz, 18 W).
