AMD A10-4600M

L'AMD A10-4600M è un processore quad-core mobile basato sull'architettura Trinity. Ufficialmente introdotto nel secondo quadrimestre 2012, è il diretto successore delle APUs della serie A Llano (Accelerated Processing Unit) ed attualmente è l'APU Trinity mobile più veloce sul mercato. L'unità di processo è realizzata in 32nm SOI ed integra una CPU da 2.3 GHz (fino a 3.2 GHz w/ Turbo Core) con una GPU Radeon HD 7660G relativamente veloce oltre ad un controller di memoria dual-channel, un de- codificatore video e una northbridge.

I cores CPU si basano sulla rielaborazione dell'architettura Bulldozer, chiamata Piledriver. Sebbene sia considerato un processore quad-core, l'A10-4600M include solo due moduli con quattro cores e due floating-point cores totali. Ne consegue, che la CPU non è un vero e proprio processore quad-core.

Se si effettua un paragone con i precedenti cores Bulldozer, AMD ha iniziato a fare dei miglioramenti a partire dalle IPC (instructions per clock) e delle prestazioni dei Trinity cores consentendo frequenze clock maggiori. Tuttavia, se lo si confronta con il precedessore Llano, le prestazioni multithreaded della Trinity sono migliorate di poco. Il nuovo Turbo Core 3.0 sfrutta bene le feature per spingere in avanti le prestazioni single threaded, sebbene ancora non sia allo stesso livello del Turbo Boost Intel. Inoltre, AMD ha provato ad includere altre features, come l'estensione AVX (inclusa FMA) ed il supporto per la codifica AES.

La Radeon HD 7660G integrata DirectX 11-compatibile offre tutti i 384 shader cores del chip Trinity e, grazie al Turbo Core, lavorerà sempre tra 497 e 686 MHz in base alle esigenze delle applicazioni in uso. In media, le prestazioni della GPU HD 7660G sono paragonabili alla Radeon HD 6650M dedicata ed è anche molto più veloce rispetto alla HD Graphics 4000 usata dall'Intel Ivy Bridge.

Il consumo energetico della APU A10-4600M è di 35 Watt di TDP e di conseguenza è paragonabile ad un processore di fascia media dual-core Ivy Bridge. Pertanto, la A10-4600M si adatta bene ai notebooks da 14-pollici o superiori.
