Intel i5-7Y54

L'Intel Core i5-7Y54 è un SoC dual-core molto efficiente per tablets e notebooks a raffreddamento passivo basato sull'architettura Kaby Lake ed annunciato alla fine di Agosto 2016. La CPU consiste in due processor cores con clock da 1.2-3.2 GHz (2-core Turbo ancora non specificato). Grazie all'Hyper Threading, il processore riesce ad eseguire fino a quattro threads simultaneamente. Il chip include anche la GPU Intel HD Graphics 615, un controller di memoria dual-channel (DDR3L/LPDDR3) oltre alla de-codifica video VP9 ed H.265. Ed è ancora realizzata in 14 nm con transistors FinFET.

Architettura

Intel di base utilizza la stessa micro architettura rispetto alla Skylake, quindi le prestazioni per-MHz non differiscono. Il produttore ha solo rielaborato la tecnologia Speed Shift per una regolazione dinamica più veloce dei voltaggi e dei clocks, ed il migliorato processo 14nm consente frequenze maggiori unitamente ad una migliore efficienza rispetto al passato.

Performance

Nonostante la modifica del nome, il Core i5-7Y54 è il successore del Core m5-6Y54 (Skylake Y-series), quindi il chip non raggiunge il livello di performance degli altri processori Core i a causa del TDP più basso. Grazie all'elevato Turbo clock, il 7Y54 a volte riesce a reggere il confronto con i modelli da 15 Watt per brevi picchi di carico e scenari single-thread, ma i clocks scendono in modo significativo con carichi di lavoro sostenuti. La CPU è adatta per molte applicazioni pesanti e per il multitasking. 

Grafica

La GPU Intel HD Graphics 615 integrata ha 4 Execution Units (EUs) come la vecchia HD Graphics 515 e gira con clocks tra 300 e 950 MHz in combinazione con questo processore. Le performance dipendono molto dal limite del TDP e dalla configurazione della memoria; con la veloce RAM LPDDR3-1866 in modalità dual-channel, la GPU dovrebbe a volte essere in grado di competere con l'HD Graphics 520, ma può anche essere molto più lenta in altri scenari. I giochi dal 2016 saranno, al massimo, fluidi solo con settings bassi.

Diversamente dalla Skylake, la Kaby Lake ora supporta anche la decodifica hardware per H.265/HEVC Main10 con una profondità del colore da 10-bit oltre al codec Google VP9.

Consumo Energetico

Il chip è realizzato con un processo in 14 nm migliorato e transistors FinFET, quindi l'efficienza energetica è stata migliorata ancora una volta. Il tipico TDP della Y-series è dichiarato a 4,5 Watts, e può essere regolato in entrambe le direzioni in base allo scenario di utilizzo.
