Qualcomm SD 8cx

Il Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 5G Compute Platform (o SD8cx Gen2, SC8180XP) è un SoC basato su ARM per portatili Windows. Integra una parte di CPU simile allo Snapdragon 855 (stessi core ma senza la caratteristica Prime Core) ed è prodotto a 7nm da Samsung. I 4 core Kryo 495 Gold sono basati sull'architettura ARM Cortex-A76 (per le prestazioni) e hanno un clock di 3,15 GHz sotto carico. I 4 core Kryo 495 Silver sono piccoli core ARM Cortex-A55 per l'efficienza energetica e hanno un clock di 1,8 GHz sotto carico (molto probabilmente).

Rispetto al predecessore, lo Snapdragon 8cx, la Gen 2 offre maggiori velocità di clock e un modem 5G integrato (X55 con supporto Sub-6 GHz e mmWave). Anche il Wi-Fi è stato portato a Wi-Fi 6.

Le prestazioni del processore dovrebbero essere simili a quelle di un Intel Core i5 8th gen serie U (ad esempio i5-8250U) secondo Qualcomm. Tuttavia, questo è solo il caso per le app native di Windows compilate in ARM64 che non sono molte (a metà 2019). Le applicazioni a 32 bit e i giochi per AMD/Intel girano in un'emulazione piuttosto lenta e le app a 64 bit non partono affatto (ma un emulatore dovrebbe arrivare in Windows nel 2021).

La scheda grafica integrata Adreno 680 potrebbe anche avere un clock un po' più alto.

Il chip è molto efficiente dal punto di vista energetico, essendo prodotto da TSMC nel moderno processo 7. Pertanto, i computer portatili che utilizzano lo Snapdragon 8cx possono essere raffreddati passivamente (nessuna ventola) e non dovrebbero soffrire di strozzature sotto carico costante.
