Qualcomm SD 865

La piattaforma mobile Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Mobile Platform è uno smartphone e tablet di fascia alta SoC che Qualcomm ha annunciato nel dicembre 2019. Il SoC integra un veloce 'Prime Core' che clock fino a 2,84 GHz e tre ulteriori veloci core di prestazioni ARM Cortex-A77, che possono raggiungere fino a 2,42 GHz. Questi sono completati da quattro core ARM Cortex-A55 a risparmio energetico, che clockano fino a un massimo di 1,8 GHz. La differenza rispetto al vecchio Snapdragon 855 è il passaggio dal Cortex-A76 alla più veloce architettura Cortex-A77. Le velocità di clock rimangono le stesse. 

Pertanto, lo Snapdragon 865 occupa il primo posto nei processori mobili per sistemi basati su Android. In alcuni carichi di lavoro multi-core, l'SD865 può anche funzionare alla pari con l'Apple A13 SoC. Il single thread, tuttavia, è ancora un punto di forza dei SoC di Apple.

Rispetto alle generazioni precedenti, lo Snapdragon 865 non integra più un modem LTE, ma deve essere abbinato al nuovo modem X55 5G, che supporta anche l'LTE Cat 24/22. Il modulo Wi-Fi è comunque ancora integrato e si chiama FastConnect 6800 con supporto per Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) e 8x8 MU-MIMU e 60 GHz 802.11ay con fino a 10 Gbps. È supportato anche il Bluetooth 5.1, incluso aptX Adaptive.

La GPU integrata si chiama ora Adreno 650 e dovrebbe offrire il 20% di prestazioni in più rispetto all'Adreno 640 dello Snapdragon 855.

Il DSP Hexagon 698 DSP a bordo offre ora una prestazione KI migliorata fino a 15 TOPS (da 7 TOPS nell'855) e utilizza ancora una combinazione di CPU, GPU, HVX e core Tensor. Lo Spectra 480 ISP è ora anche significativamente più veloce. Il Computer Vision Engine integrato (CV-ISP) ora supporta Dolby Vision, video 8K e foto da 200 megapixel.

Il controller di memoria integrato ora supporta LPDDR5 con fino a 2.750 MHz e LPDDR4X con 2.133 MHz.

Lo Snapdragon 855 è prodotto da TSMC nel nuovo processo migliorato a 7nm (N7P, basato su DUV). Il processo offre un rendimento del 7% in più o il 10% in meno di consumo energetico rispetto al vecchio processo N7.
