Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ / 855 Plus

La piattaforma mobile Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Plus (855+) è uno smartphone e tablet di fascia alta SoC che Qualcomm ha annunciato nel 2019. Rispetto al normale Snapdragon 855, l'855 Plus offre una maggiore velocità di clock della GPU e della CPU. Il SoC integra un veloce 'Prime Core' che monitora fino a 2,96 GHz (a partire da 2,84 GHz nell'855) e tre ulteriori veloci core di prestazioni ARM Cortex-A76, che possono raggiungere fino a 2,42 GHz. Questi sono completati da quattro core ARM Cortex-A55 a risparmio energetico, che controllano fino ad un massimo di 1,8 GHz.

Il SoC integra anche il nuovo modem X24 LTE che Qualcomm promette di fornire fino a 2 Gbit/s di velocità massima di download su LTE Cat.20 e fino a 316 Mbit/s di velocità di upload. Lo Snapdragon 855 può essere configurato anche con il nuovo modem X50 5G dell'azienda.

Qualcomm ha anche migliorato il modem Wi-Fi integrato, che è Wi-Fi 6-ready, ha 8x8 Sounding e supporta fino a 802.11 ay Wi-Fi. Il modem Wi-Fi può utilizzare la banda mmWave a 60 GHz per velocità internet fino a 10 Gbit/s.

L'Hexagon 690 DSP ha subito la maggior parte delle revisioni di quello che Qualcomm ha integrato nello Snapdragon 855. Il nuovo DSP incorpora un'unità di elaborazione neurale (NPU) con Tensor-cores dedicate che può eseguire fino a 7 trilioni di operazioni al secondo in combinazione con la CPU e la GPU. In breve, lo Snapdragon 855 dovrebbe essere tre volte più veloce dello Snapdragon 845 e due volte più veloce del Kirin 980 SoC.

Lo Snapdragon 855 ha anche un ISP Spectra 380 a bordo, che è il primo chip al mondo a incorporare un Computer Vision Engine (CV-ISP) in grado di eseguire calcoli di profondità nei video fino a 60 FPS. Lo Snapdragon 855 dovrebbe fornire modalità di ritratto in tempo reale o essere in grado di rilevare oggetti con un consumo energetico relativamente basso.

Il controller di memoria integrato supporta fino a 16 GB LPDDR4x RAM (4 x 16 bit). Come l'SD855, l'855+ integra una scheda grafica Adreno 640 con clock più alto e dovrebbe offrire prestazioni superiori del 15%.

Qualcomm produrrà lo Snapdragon 855+ presso la Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) utilizzando un processo FinFET a 7 nm.
