Intel Z3740

L'Intel Atom Z3740 è un SoC quad-core ad efficienza energetica per tablets Windows ed Android. Ha un clock da 1.33 - 1.8 GHz è fa parte della piattaforma Bay Trail-T. Grazie al particolare processo low-power ottimizzato in 22 nanometri (P1271) con transistors tri-gate, l'efficienza delle prestazioni e dei consumi sono migliorati notevolmente rispetto ai suoi predecessori.

Architettura

I cores del processore si basano sulla nuova architettura Silvermont, che rappresenta un design out-of-order. Il miglior utilizzo della pipeline e molti altri miglioramenti (branch prediction ottimizzata, buffers incrementati, decoders migliorati) hanno aumentato le prestazioni per clock di circa il 50 percento. Allo stesso tempo, tuttavia, l'Hyper-Threading presente sulle numerose generazioni precedenti è stato eliminato. Altre modifiche rilevanti sono il supporto per il nuovo set di istruzioni come SSE 4.1 e 4.2 ed AES-NI (in base al modello).

Prestazioni

Grazie ai 4 cores CPU ed alle migliori prestazioni per clock, lo Z3740 è significativamente più veloce rispetto ai precedenti Intel Atoms come lo Z2760. Presumibilmente lo Z3740 compete anche con alcune APUs Kabini come l'AMD A4-5000. Per le applicazioni quotidiane come Internet o applicazioni da ufficio le prestazioni sono adeguate, ma non vale lo stesso discorso per software complessi e giochi recenti.

Grafica

La HD Graphics (Bay Trail) si basa sull'architettura Intel Gen7, che supporta DirectX 11 e si trova anche sulle serie Ivy Bridge (i.e. HD Graphics 4000). Con appena 4 EUs (Execution Units) ed una velocità clock relativamente bassa, che arriva fino a 667 MHz, la GPU è più lenta anche della HD Graphics (Ivy Bridge). Pertanto, solo i giochi Windows più vecchi e meno esigenti risultano fluidi. Tuttavia, l'accelerazione video e la risoluzione del display fino a 2560 x 1600 pixels non sono un problema per questo chip.

Consumo energetico

L'intero SoC ha un SDP di 2 watts, il che indica un TDP inferiore a 4 watts. Pertanto, il chip può essere usato nei tablets che hanno un sistema di raffreddamento passivo.
