The Lenovo Miix 2 8 lasted a healthy 9 hours and 59 minutes in our battery tests, so has enough stamina to last a day of working or browsing. The Miix is a solid Windows 8.1 tablet that looks smart, performs well and is reasonably priced. As the Lenovo Miix 2 8 also comes with Microsoft Office Home & Student 2013, this makes it even better value; if you want an 8in Windows 8.1 tablet for work and play, it’s a great choice.

For a small tablet that's easy to hold and carry around, the Lenovo Miix 2 8 doesn't get much wrong. It's certainly one of the nicer 8-inch Windows 8.1 tablet's we've tried. For simple tasks and running full-screen apps, the Lenovo Miix 2 8 performs well. But you'll need to keep your expectations in check, as the Miix 2 8 struggles under more intensive workloads.

However the Miix 2 8 is a tablet that I simply cannot recommend. Touchscreen issues, most prevalent when using the keyboard, make this device incredibly frustrating to use (see our video review in the first page, around the 6:10 mark). The performance from Intel’s Atom Z3740 SoC is generally quite decent, but having to purposefully type slowly, or wait extended periods of time just to have the touchscreen respond, is simply unacceptable on any device at any price point. Yes, there is a chance that a software update could address the touchscreen issues, and I will update this review accordingly if and when any issues are fixed. I would have easily scored Lenovo's Windows tablet an 80, but the fact that there are significant issues to deal with, combined with the display’s relatively low resolution, makes the Miix 2 8 a low-cost 8-inch tablet that you should avoid.

The Miix 2 8 is an excellent tablet, but this market is expanding rapidly and details matter. For me, the more dimmable screen on Dell’s Venue Pro 8 makes it a better nighttime reader. For others, the micro HDMI port on Toshiba’s Encore 8 , or the active Wacom digitizer in the Asus VivoTab Note 8, will be must-have features. The Miix 2 8’s great performance isn’t enough for it to rise above comparably priced competitors with more features.

Lenovo provides a lot of value with the Miix 2 8 for $299. The Bay Trail processor provides decent performance, while the 8-inch display makes the highly portable form a reality. That said, if you want to keep your expenditure to (just) under $300 (before accessories), the Miix 2 8 makes a strong argument for buying a Windows 8 tablet instead of a cheap laptop, Chromebook, first-generation Apple iPad mini, or Android tablet. It has a higher resolution screen than most of those devices. The Miix 2 8 can also access the full Windows-compatible app library and will work with the same browser plug-ins as your home laptop. The skimpy leftover free storage concerns us quite a bit, so the Miix 2 8 just misses taking over as our latest Editors' Choice Windows 8 tablet, but it should be on your short list if you have access to a 64GB microSD card to shove into the Miix 2 8's expansion slot.

Intel HD Graphics (Bay Trail): GPU Bay Trail SoCs integrata per tablet e notebook. Si basa sulla GPU Ivy Bridge con quattro Execution Units e supporta DirectX 11.

Soltanto i giochi datasi possono essere giocati in modo fluido con questi chips grafici (se non richiedono troppe prestazioni). I cores con memoria grafica condivisa in questa categoria hanno il vantaggio delle minori emissioni di calore e della maggiore autonomia della batteria. Per ufficio, internet, image processing, e video editing queste schede grafiche sono utilizzabili senza particolari problematiche.

Intel Atom:

La Intel Atom è una serie a 64-Bit di microprocessori (non tutti i modelli supportano 64bit) per portatili economici e piccoli (chiamati comunemente netbooks), MIDs, o UMPCs (Ultra Mibile Persona Computer). La particolarità della nuova architettura è l'esecuzione "in order" (al posto della consueta e più veloce esecuzione "out of order"). Di conseguenza il transistor count della serie Atom è abbastanza inferiore, e quindi più economico da produrre. Inoltre, il consumo di energia è molto contenuto. Le prestazioni per Megahertz sono ovviamente peggiori rispetto ai vecchi Pentium 3M (1,2 GHz alla pari di 1.6 GHz Atom).

Lenovo: Lenovo ("Le" dalla leggenda inglese, novo (latino) per nuovo) è stata fondata nel 1984 come società cinese di commercio di computer. Nel 2004, l'azienda era il più grande produttore di laptop in Cina e, dopo aver acquisito la divisione PC di IBM nel 2005, il quarto più grande al mondo. Oltre a desktop e notebook, l'azienda produce monitor, proiettori, server, ecc. ed è specializzata nello sviluppo, produzione e commercializzazione di elettronica di consumo, personal computer, software, soluzioni aziendali e servizi correlati.

Nel 2016, l'azienda si è classificata al primo posto al mondo nelle vendite di computer. Lo deteneva ancora nel 2023 con una quota di mercato globale di circa il 23%. Importanti linee di prodotti sono Thinkpad, Legion e Ideapad.

Nel 2011 ha acquisito una partecipazione di maggioranza in Medion AG, un produttore europeo di hardware per computer. Nel 2014 è stata acquistata Motorola Mobility, che ha dato a Lenovo una spinta nel mercato degli smartphone.
