HiSilicon Kirin 925

L'HiSilicon Kirin 925 è un SoC (system-on-a-chip) octa-core ARM-based per smartphones e tablets. E' stato lanciato nel terzo trimestre 2014 insieme all'Huawei Ascend Mate 7 e sfrutta quattro cores Cortex-A15 con clock fino a 1.8 GHz. Inoltre, ci sono quattro cores Cortex-A7 aggiuntivi fino a 1.3 GHz, una GPu ARM Mali-T628 MP6 ed un controller di memoria 2x 32 bit LPDDR3. Il modem LTE Cat. 6 integrato consente una velocità di download fino a 300 Mbps.

Processore

Rispetto all'architettura Cortex-A9 e Cortex-A7 comunemente usata, i cores A15 offrono almeno il 50 percento di prestazioni in più per clock, il che rende il Kirin 925 uno dei SoCs ARM high-end del 2014. In media, la prestazioni CPU sono quasi alla pari con il Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 o il Samsung Exynos 5420.

In aggiunta, HiSilicon ha integrato quattro cores Cortex-A7 con clock fino a 1.3 GHz. In base al carico di sistema, il SoC effettuerà lo switch automatico tra i potenti cores A15 ed i più efficienti cores A7 per migliorare il consumo energetico e l'autonomia della batteria in un concept che ARM chiama "big.LITTLE". Se necessario, tutti gli otto cores possono essere usati simultaneamente, in modo che il chip può essere descritto come un "vero" SoC octa-core.

Grafica

Come il Samsung Exynos 5420, il Kirin 925 integra una GPU Mali-T628 MP6, che offre sei shader clusters (~120 GFLOPS da 600 MHz, velocità clock non confermata). La Mali-T628 supporta OpenGL ES 3.0, OpenCL 1.1 e DirectX 11 ed offre prestazioni notevoli che sono appena dietro la Adreno 330 (Snapdragon 800) o la PowerVR G6430 (Apple A7). Pertanto, la GPU può far girare anche i giochi Android più pesanti con risoluzioni elevate (fino a 2560 x 1600 pixels) e dettagli elevati.

Consumo Energetico

La Kirin 925 è realizzata in 28nm (TSMC HPM) e dovrebbe avere un consumo simile ad altri SoCs high-end, i.e. l'Exynos 5420. Pertanto, il chip è adatto per smartphones di dimensioni medie (o grandi) e tablets.
