Intel Core i7-7660U
L'Intel Core i7-7660U è un veloce SoC dual-core per notebooks ed Ultrabooks basato sull'architettura Kaby Lake ed annunciato a Gennaio 2017. La CPU ha due processor cores con clock da 2.5-4 GHz (due cores fino a 3.8 GHz). Il processore può eseguire fino a quattro threads simultaneamente grazie all'Hyper Threading. Monta anche una GPU Intel Iris Plus Graphics 640 con 64 MB di eDRAm, un controller di memoria dual-channel (DDR4) oltre alla de-codifica video un controller di memoria dual-channel ed H.265. Il chip è ancora realizzato in 14nm con transistors FinFET.
Rispetto al Core i7-7600U, il 7660 ha un single-core Turbo maggiore da 4 GHz (+100 MHz), ma un dual-core Turbo inferiore (-100 MHz) ed una frequenza base minore (-300 MHz). Tuttavia, la parte CPU può usare anche i 64 MB di eDRAM come L5 cache.
Intel di base utilizza la stessa micro architettura rispetto alla Skylake, quindi le prestazioni per-MHz non differiscono. Il produttore ha solo rielaborato la tecnologia Speed Shift per una regolazione dinamica più veloce dei voltaggi e dei clocks, ed il migliorato processo 14nm consente frequenze maggiori unitamente ad una migliore efficienza rispetto al passato.
Con 2.5-4 GHz, il Core i7-7660U ha una frequenza leggermente inferiore (ad eccezione del single-core Turbo) rispetto al Core i7-7600U, ma la parte CPU part può usare i 64 MB di eDRAM, quindi le performance dovrebbero essere simili.
L'Intel Iris Plus 640 Graphics è il modello GT3e della GPU Kaby Lake (Intel Gen. 9.5). Ha 48 Execution Units, gira a 300-1050 MHz e le performance sono paragonabili ad una GeForce 920MX grazie alla veloce cache eDRAM. Tuttavia, ci non sono significativi miglioramenti rispetto alla vecchia Iris Pro 540, quindi i giochi moderni spesso non sono fluidi o solo con settings medi o bassi, rispettivamente.
Diversamente dalla Skylake, la Kaby lake ora supporta anche l'H.265/HEVC Main 10 con una profondità del colore da 10-bit oltre al codec Google un controller di memoria dual-channel. I processori dual-core Kaby Lake annunciati a Gennaio dovrebbero supportare anche l'HDCP 2.2.
Il chip è realizzato con un processo in 14nm migliorato e con transistors FinFET, che migliora ulteriormente l'efficienza. Intel specifica ancora un TDP da 15 Watts, che è tipico dei chips ULV. In base allo scenario di utilizzo, il TDP varia tra 7,5 (cTDP Down) e 25 Watts.
