Intel i5-7300U

L'Intel Core i5-7300U è un veloce processore dual-core per notebooks basato sull'architettura Kaby Lake ed annunciato a Gennaio 2017. Integra 2 CPU cores con supporto Hyper-Threading e clock da 2.6 - 3.5 GHz (2 core Turbo sempre da 3.5 GHz). Oltre ai due cores, il processore monta anche una GPU HD Graphics 620 ed un controller di memoria dual-channel (DDR3L-1600/DDR4-2400). E' realizzato con processo da 14nm con transistors FinFET.

Architettura

Intel di base utilizza la stessa micro architettura rispetto alla Skylake, quindi le prestazioni per-MHz non differiscono. Il produttore ha solo rielaborato la tecnologia Speed Shift per una regolazione dinamica più veloce dei voltaggi e dei clocks, ed il migliorato processo 14nm consente frequenze maggiori unitamente ad una migliore efficienza rispetto al passato.

Performance

Variando da 2.5 a 3.5 GHz, il Core i5-7300U ha clocks nettamente superiori rispetto al precedente Core i5-7200U (2.5 - 3.1) ed al Core i5-6200U (2.3 - 2.8 GHz). Grazie alla veloce frequenza Turbo, le performance dovrebbero essere di poco inferiori al Core i7-7500U (2.7 - 3.5 GHz, ma 4 MB L3 cache). Pertanto, le performance sono sufficienti per applicazioni pesanti.

Grafica

L'Intel HD Graphics 620 integrata ha 4 Execution Units (come la precedente HD Graphics 520) gira a 300 - 1100 MHz. Le performance dipendono molto dalla configurazione della memoria; dovrebbero essere paragonabili ad una Nvidia GeForce 920M dedicata unitamente ad una veloce memoria DDR4-2133 dual-channel.

Diversamente dalla Skylake, la Kaby Lake ora supporta il decoding hardware per l'H.265/HEVC Main 10 con una profondità del colore da 10-bit oltre al codec Google VP9. I processori dual-core Kaby Lake, che sono stati annunciati a Gennaio, dovrebbero supportare anche l'HDCP 2.2.

Consumo Energetico

Il chip è realizzato con un processo in 14nm migliorato e con transistors FinFET, che migliora ulteriormente l'efficienza. Intel specifica ancora un TDP da 15 Watts, ma può anche essere ridotto a 7,5 Watts dai produttori di portatili (cTDP down). Questo ovviamente impatta sulle performance, in quanto il Turbo Boost non può essere mantenuto per periodi lunghi.
