Intel 4200M

L'intel Core i5-4200M è un processore dual-core per portatili lanciato nel secondo quadrimestre 2013. Si basa sull'architettura Haswell ed è realizzato in 22nm. Grazie all'Hyper-Threading, i due cores possono gestire fino a quattro threads in parallelo con un miglior utilizzo della CPU. Ogni core offre una velocità base di 2.5 GHz ma può dinamicamente aumentare il clock rates con il Turbo Boost fino a 3.1 GHz per 1 core attivo o 3.0 GHz per 2 cores attivi.

Haswell ha sostituito l'architettura Ivy Bridge con miglioramenti delle prestazioni sia della GPU che dalla CPU. Le CPUs sono realizzate in 22nm ed offrono una branch prediction migliore e porte execution aggiuntive. Inoltre, nuove features come AVX2 ed FMA dovrebbero incrementare le performance con le applicazioni future.

Grazie a queste modifiche, le prestazioni per clock sono migliorate del 10% rispetto all'Ivy Bridge. Pertanto, l'i5-4200M è veloce quasi quanto il precedente modello Ivy Bridge i5-3340M.

L'Intel HD Graphics 4600 integrata offre 20 Execution Units (EUs) con clock da 400 MHz a 1150 MHz con Turbo Boost, il che la rende del 30 % più veloce rispetto ad una HD 4000 con clock simile.

L'i5-4200M ha un TDP da 37 W che include la scheda grafica, il controller di memoria ed il VRMs. Pertanto, la CPU è adatta per portatili da 14-pollici o superiori.
