Intel Pentium N5000

L'Intel Pentium Silver N5000 è un SoC quad-core principalmente per notebook economici ed è stato annunciato alla fine del 2017. Funziona a 1,1-2,7 GHz (Single Core Burst, Multi Core Burst max. 2,6 GHz) e si basa sulla piattaforma Gemini Lake. Simile al precedente Apollo Lake, il chip è prodotto in un processo da 14 nm con FinFETs ma offre cores del processore leggermente migliorati, il doppio della cache L2, un pacchetto più piccolo, una nuova generazione di uscite monitor (Gen 10) e un chip WiFi parzialmente integrato. Oltre ai quattro cores della CPU, il chip include anche una GPU con capacità DirectX 12 e un controller di memoria DDR4/LPDDR4 (dual-channel, fino a 2400 MHz). Il SoC non è sostituibile in quanto viene saldato direttamente sulla scheda madre.

Architettura

L'architettura del processore è stata leggermente rielaborata e ora si chiama Goldmont Plus. Dispone di una cache di livello 2 (fino a 4 MB). Questo significa che le prestazioni per clock dovrebbero essere leggermente migliori, ma non vicino alle CPU Core come la Kaby Lake Y.

Performance

Le prestazioni della CPU del Pentium Silver N5000 sono dovute all'architettura CPU leggermente modificata e al boost del clock di 200 MHz in più rispetto al vecchio Pentium N4200 (1.1 - 2.5 GHz). Rispetto ai più costosi processori Core Y, soprattutto le prestazioni single thread sono molto più basse nei SoCs basati su Gemini Lake. Per attività semplici come le suites da ufficio, il webbrowsing con moderato multitasking le prestazioni del processore dovrebbero andare bene.

Performance GPU

L'UHD Graphics 605 (Gemini Lake) è basata sull'architettura Gen9 di Intel, che supporta DirectX 12 ed è utilizzata anche per gli adattatori grafici Kaby Lake / Skylake / Apollo Lake (come HD Graphics 520). Dotata di 18 EU e un clock fino a 750 MHz, le prestazioni dovrebbero essere più o meno allo stesso livello delle vecchie grafiche HD 5300 e HD Graphics 505 (Apollo Lake).

Il chip include anche un avanzato motore video con supporto hardware per la riproduzione di materiale VP9 e H.265 (8-bit color-depth).

Consumo Energetico

Analogamente al predecessore, Intel specifica un TDP da 6 Watt (SDP 4,8 Watt - Scenario Design Power). Il chip può quindi essere raffreddato passivamente in teoria, ma sono possibili anche SKU con ventole.
