Intel Core i7-6600U
L'Intel Core i7-6600U è un SoC ULV (ultra low voltage) dual-core basato sull'architettura Skylake. A Settembre 2015, è la CPU più veloce della serie 15 W, che si trova in ultrabooks e nei portatili. In aggiunta ai due CPU cores con Hyper-Threading con clock da 2.6 - 3.4 GHz (2 cores: max. 3.2 GHz), il chip integra anche una HD Graphics 520 GPU ed un controller di memoria dual-channel DDR4-2133/DDR3L-1600. Il SoC è realizzato con processo da 14 nm e con transistors FinFET.
La Skylake sostituisce sia l'Haswell che la Broadwell ed introduce la stessa microarchitettura in ogni classe di TDP da 4.5 a 45 W. I molti miglioramenti del design Skylake includono l'incremento di buffers out-of-order, l'ottimizzazione del prefetching e branch prediction oltre ad un ulteriore guadagno di prestazioni tramite Hyper-Threading. Nel complesso, tuttavia, le prestazioni per clock sono aumentate solo del 5 - 10 percento (rispetto all'Haswell) o sotto il 5 percento (rispetto alla Broadwell), un risultato piuttosto modesto per una nuova architettura ("Tock").
In base ai clock rates specificati e alla architettura migliorata, il Core i7-6600U dovrebbe avere prestazioni simili al Core i5-4310M (Haswell, 37 W) ed è uno dei dual-cores ULV più veloci di fine 2015. Pertanto, la CPU ha sufficiente potenza per attività da ufficio e multimedia oltre che per applicazioni più pesanti e multitasking.
L'unità grafica integrata chiamata HD Graphics 520 rappresenta la versione "GT2" della GPU Skylake (Intel Gen. 9). Le 24 Execution Units, chiamate anche EUs, hanno un clock tra 300 - 1050 MHz and offrono performance al livello di una GeForce 820M dedicata. Con un TDP da 15 W (inclusi CPU, GPU e controller memoria), la CPU è più adatta per piccoli portatili e ultrabooks (a partire da 11"). Opzionalmente, il TDP può essere abbassato a 7.5 watts (cTDP down), riducendo sia la dissipazione del calore che le performance e consentendo designs anche più compatti.
