Intel i7-8809G

L'Intel Core i7-8809G è un veloce processore quad-core per notebook basato sull'architettura Kaby Lake ed è stato annunciato nel gennaio 2018. Simile all'Intel Xeon E3-1535M v6 integra quattro cores con clock a 3,1 - 4,2 GHz. Come specialità il pacchetto contiene anche una scheda grafica Vega di AMD (con 24 CU = 1536 shader a 1190 MHz) e 4 GB di memoria grafica HBM2. La CPU viene ancora prodotta in 14 nm, come il i7-7920HQ.

Architettura

Intel utilizza fondamentalmente la stessa microarchitettura rispetto alla Skylake, quindi le prestazioni per MHz non differiscono. Il produttore ha rielaborato solo la tecnologia Speed Shift per velocizzare le regolazioni dinamiche del voltaggio e dei clock, e il processo migliorato di 14 nm consente frequenze molto più alte combinate con una migliore efficienza rispetto a prima.

Performance

Rispetto all'i7-7920HQ, l'i7-8809G dovrebbe essere leggermente più veloce grazie alla memoria HBM2, al Boost clock più alto di 100 MHz ed al TDP da 100 Watt. Le prestazioni sono quindi sufficienti anche per compiti molto impegnativi e alla pari con i potenti processori quad-core desktop.

Grafica

Oltre alla Intel HD Graphics 630 nella CPU die, il Core i7-8809G offre anche una scheda grafica AMD Radeon RX Vega M GH con 24 Cus e quindi più del doppio rispetto alle attuali APU Ryzen (es. Ryzen 7 2700 con 10 CUs).

Contrariamente alla Skylake, Kaby Lake supporta ora la decodifica hardware per H.265/HEVC Main 10 con profondità di colore a 10 bit e il codec VP9 di Google. L'8809G dovrebbe supportare anche l'HDCP 2.2, ma per l'HDMI 2.0, molto probabilmente ha bisogno di un convertitore da DisplayPort.

Consumo Energetico

Il chip della CPU è prodotto con un processo migliorato a 14 nm con transistor FinFET. Ha un TDP di circa 100 Watt e quindi è adatto solo per computer portatili con buone soluzioni di raffreddamento. Rispetto ai laptop con Core i7-H quad core i7-H e schede grafiche dedicate, i modelli basati su i7-8809G possono essere costruiti con chassis più piccoli.
