Intel 5Y10a

L'Intel Core M-5Y10a è un SoC dual-core ULV (ultra-low voltage) basato sull'architettura lanciato a settembre 2014. Grazie al TDP di appena 4.5 W (configurabile), la CPU è adatta a tablets e notebooks 2-in-1 con raffreddamento passivo. In aggiunta ai due cores CPU con Hyper-Threading con clock da 0.8 - 2.0 GHz, il chip integra anche una GPU HD Graphics 5300 ed un controller di memoria dual-channel LPDDR3/DDR3L(-RS) fino a 25.6 GB/s. Il chip è realizzato in 14 nm con transistors FinFET.

Architettura

La Broadwell rappresenta il "Tick" nel modello Intel Tick-Tock, il che significa una riduzione dei suoi predecessori Haswell. Il nuovo processo di produzione in 14 con transistors FinFET tridimensionali non solo consente miglioramenti per l'efficienza energetica, ma anche una riduzione degli spazi che lo rendono utile per dispositivi molto piccoli.

Ulteriori vantaggi derivano dalla microarchitettura Broadwell revisionata. Grazie alla migliore branch prediction, alla maggiore dimensione del buffer (1500 invece di 1000 entries nella L2 TLB) ed altre modifiche, le prestazioni per clock sono state incrementate di oltre il 5 percento rispetto al suo predecessore. Ci sono anche molti altri nuovi set di istruzioni realizzati per applicazioni di crittografia.

Performance 

Il Core M-5Y10a offre un ampia gamma di turbo da 0.8- 2.0 GHz; Ci aspettiamo che l'attuale frequenza sia ampiamente limitata dal TDP. Mentre la CPU è simile ad un Core i5-4202Y (Haswell, 11.5 W) nei benchmarks brevi, le sue prestazioni iniziano a calare sotto carico di lavoro costante. il principale obiettivo del miglioramento dell'efficienza energetica del Broadwell sta nella riduzione dei consumi piuttosto che nel miglioramento delle prestazioni.

Nel complesso, il Core M-5Y10a dovrebbe essere sufficiente per applicazioni da ufficio e multimedia ma anche per applicazioni più pesanti.

Grafica

La HD Graphics 5300 integrata offre 24 Execution Units (EUs) con clock da 100 - 850 MHz. Similmente al core CPU, l'architettura della GPU (Intel Gen 8) è stata rivisitata per migliorare le performance-per-clock. Tuttavia, la frequenza della GPU sarà limitata anche dal TDP, che eviterà eccessivi scatti di potenza sulla vecchia HD 4200 con carico 3D costante. I giochi attuali del 2014 dovrebbero essere giocabili con settaggi bassi e risoluzione XGA.

Il Broadwell è il primo chip Intel a supportare in pieno DirectX 11.2 ma anche OpenCL 1.3/2.0 ed OpenGL 4.3. Il Video viene trasmesso via DisplayPort 1.2 o HDMI 1.4a. Tuttavia, il nuovo standard HDMI 2.0 non è ufficialmente supportato.

Consumo Energetico

Con un TDP di appena 4.5 W, il Core M-5Y71 assorbe molto meno rispetto alla serie Y Haswell (11.5 W). La CPU può essere raffreddata in modo passivo anche nei tablets sottili.
