AMD E2-3800

L'AMD E2-3800 è un SoC mobile quad-core per portatili low-end, presentato nel Novembre 2013. In aggiunta ai 4 cores CPU con una velocità clock di 1.3 GHz (senza  Turbo), il chip da 28-nanometri integra anche una GPU Radeon HD 8280 GPU, un controller di memoria single channel DDR3(L)-1600 ed un Southbridge con varie porte I/O-.

Architettura

Sia il Kabini (per portatili) che il Temash (tablets e subnotebooks compatti) si basano sulla nuova architettura AMD Jaguar, che sostituisce i precedenti modelli Bobcat (i.e. l'E-350). Le prestazioni per clock sono state incrementate di circa il 20 percento. Inoltre, ora sono supportate anche vari moderni set di istruzioni come SSE fino alla versione 4.2, AVX ed AES. Il processo in 28-nanometri della TSMC consente voltaggi inferiori e/o clock rates superiori rispetto al Bobcat, così come fino a 4 cores CPU (Bobcat: 2 cores).

Prestazioni

Grazie alla minore velocità clock di 1.3 GHz, le prestazioni nelle applicazioni scarsamente parallelizzate sono abbastanza modeste ed appena superiori rispetto alla vecchia E-350. Tuttavia, se si impegnano tutti i 4 cores, le prestazioni equivalgono al Core i3-2357M Sandy-Bridge-based. Per applicazioni da ufficio e multimedia, l'E2-3800 ha potenza a sufficienza; tuttavia, raggiunge i suoi limiti con i giochi e le applicazioni più esigenti.

Grafica

Il SoC integra una GPU Radeon HD 8280 GPU con 128 shaders, che si basano sull'architettura GCN ed hanno un clock da 450 MHz (senza Turbo). In media, l'HD 8280 si colloca appena sotto alla Radeon HD 7470M o alla Intel HD Graphics 4000. Molti giochi recenti (del 2013) sono di conseguenza difficilmente utilizzabili. Tuttavia, alcuni giochi più datati o meno pesanti gireranno in modo fluido.

Consumo energetico

Il consumo energetico di tutto il SoC si attesta sui 15 watts. Pertanto, l'E2-3800 è un po' più economica rispetto ai suoi predecessori (E2-1800: 17 watts) ed adatta anche per piccoli subnotebooks.
