AMD Ryzen 9 6900HS è un processore per computer portatili di grandi dimensioni (da gioco) basato sulla generazione Rembrandt. L'R9 6900HS integra tutti gli otto core basati sulla microarchitettura Zen 3+. Hanno un clock da 3,3 (clock di base garantito) a 4,9 GHz (Turbo) e supportano SMT / Hyperthreading (16 thread). Il chip è prodotto con il moderno processo TSMC a 6 nm. La variante HS offre un TDP inferiore di 10 W e quindi prestazioni sostenute inferiori rispetto alla versione HX.
Il nuovo Zen 3+ è un aggiornamento dell'architettura Zen 3 e non dovrebbe offrire molti cambiamenti. Il chip stesso, tuttavia, offre molte nuove funzionalità, come il supporto per USB 4 (40 Gbps), PCI-E Gen 4, DDR5-4800MT/s o LPDDR5-6400MT/s, WiFi 6E, Bluetooth LE 5.2, DisplayPort 2 e decodifica AV1.
Le prestazioni del processore dovrebbero essere leggermente superiori a quelle del vecchio Ryzen 9 5980HS grazie alla maggiore velocità di clock boost (+100 MHz). Le nuove CPU mobili Alder Lake con 14 core (come il Core i9-12900HK) dovrebbero comunque offrire prestazioni multi-core superiori. Rispetto al modello HS più veloce, il Ryzen 9 6980HS, il 6900HS offre un Boost clock inferiore di 100 MHz e quindi prestazioni leggermente inferiori. L'analogo R9 6900HX (45W, supporto all'overclocking) ha un TDP più elevato e quindi dovrebbe essere più veloce quando si eseguono carichi multi-thread a lungo termine.
Una grande novità è la GPU integrata Radeon 680M, che ora si basa sull'architettura RDNA2 e offre 12 CU fino a 2,4 GHz. Al momento dell'annuncio dovrebbe essere la iGPU più veloce in assoluto.
Il TDP dell'APU è specificato a 35 Watt e quindi è più adatto ai portatili sottili e leggeri. L'efficienza energetica dovrebbe essere molto buona, grazie al processo migliorato a 6 nm e alle funzioni aggiuntive di risparmio energetico della serie 6000.
