L'AMD Radeon R9 M390X è una scheda grafica mobile high-end per laptops. Si basa sullo stesso chip della AMD Radeon R9 M295X dell'iMac 5K di fine 2014. Questo significa che dovrebbe basarsi sulla terza generazione del GCN (chip desktop Tonga). Il totale di shader cores è identico ma il core clock è ridotto del 15% (da 850 MHz a 723 MHz) ed anche la memoria ha un clock più lento (5448 MHz vs 5000 MHz).

Le performance dovrebbero essere leggermente inferiori alla M295X. Rispetto alla concorrenza, la R9-M390X dovrebbe posizionarsi tra la GeForce GTX 965M e la 970M e pertanto è adatta a giochi high-end in 1080p e dettagli elevati.

La scheda è stata menzionata la prima volta da Alienware sul loro account twitter e dovrebbe avere 4GB di VRAM secondo il tweet.

Il consumo energetico dovrebbe essere di circa 100 Watt di TDP e di conseguenza è adatta solo per portatili grandi ed ingombranti (come l'Alienware M17x).
