Intel 4960X

L'intel Core i7-4960X Extreme Edition è un processore desktop high-end per piattaforma Ivy Bridge-E. La CPU è realizzata con processo in 22 nanometri ed offre 6 cores (incluso Hyper-Threading), con un clock da 3.6 GHz. In base al carico di lavoro, il Turbo Boost 2.0 può incrementare il clock rate fino a 3.7 GHz (6 cores attivi), 3.8 GHz (4 o 5 cores), 3.9 GHz (2 o 3 cores) o 4.0 GHz (1 core attivo). Con l'Extreme Edition, la 4960X sfrutta un moltiplicatore sbloccato e riesce ad effettuare l'overclock in modo molto rapido. Tuttavia, la CPU non ha una GPU integrata.

Architettura

Sebbene i modelli di fascia media precedentemente presentati si basano già sulla nuova architettura Haswell, la piattaforma high-end LGA2011 usa ancora la struttura precedente Ivy Bridge. Rispetto alla Sandy Bridge, l'Ivy Bridge è circa il 5 percento più veloce per clock, ma il 5 - 10 percento più lenta rispetto alla Haswell. Grazie al processo in 22-nanometri, l'Ivy Bridge è molto più efficiente dal punto di vista energetico rispetto al suo predecessore, che consente un clock rate superiore ed un consumo energetico leggermente ridotto.

Prestazioni

Le prestazioni del Core i7-4960X sono di circa il 5 - 10 percento superiori al vecchio Core i7-3960X, il che rende la CPU il processore desktop più veloce del 2013. Se sono impegnati tutti i 6 cores, la 4960X supera l'i7-4770K (desktop) e l'i7-4930MX (notebook) del 40 - 50 percento. Anche le applicazioni più pesanti o il multitasking estremo sono gestiti in modo semplice.

Consumo Energetico

Il Core i7-4960X ha un TDP molto elevato da 130 watts. Pertanto, la CPU può essere usata solo su sistemi desktop o su grandi portatili DTR.
