Sfarfallio dello schermo / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Per ridurre la luminosità dello schermo, alcuni portatili accendono e spengono la retroilluminazione in rapida successione - un metodo chiamato Pulse Width Modulation (PWM). Questa frequenza di ciclo a livello ideale non dovrebbe essere percepibile dall'occhi umano. Se tale frequenza è troppo bassa, gli utenti con occhi sensibili potrebbero stancarsi gli occhi o avere mal di testa o anche notare uno sfarfallio.

Nel nostro test, il  nuovo modello Sony si fa notare per il pannello IPS con contrasto elevato e per la maneggevolezza. L'Xperia E5 è costruito bene ma ha un case in plastica che appare sottile, sebbene sia ok. La concorrenza realizzata in vetro (UHANS S1) o metallo (Vernee Mars) ha un aspetto sicuramente qualitativamente migliore. 

L'interazione tra il SoC MediaTek quad-core dalle prestazioni contenute ed 1,5 GB di RAM consente un sistema (sorprendentemente) fluido come prestazioni nell'utilizzo quotidiano, e grazie allo spazio di 16 GB eMMC relativamente veloce, le apps si aprono senza tempi di attesa lunghi. In aggiunta, il modulo GPS dell'Xperia E5 rispecchia in pieno la sua fascia di prezzo.

I commenti negativi riguardano i consumi relativamente elevati e le temperature, l'autonomia dello smartphone Sony è sotto la media dei concorrenti. Inoltre, la qualità del modulo fotocamera e la cassa non convincono. 

L'Xperia E5 è un solido compagno del segmento di prezzo basso. Tuttavia, il design in vetro dei più costosi smartphones Xperia tipico di Sony avrebbe dato a questo dispositivo una feature unica.
