Recensione: AMD Ryzen Threadripper Pro 3995WX e Radeon Pro W6800 nella workstation di fascia alta Lenovo ThinkStation P620

64 (sessantaquattro!) cores. Con l'attuale ThinkStation P620, Lenovo offre una solida piattaforma per workstation compatte di fascia alta. Abbiamo dato un'occhiata più da vicino al dispositivo da 13.000 euro (~$15.292) nel nostro test; è composto da AMD Ryzen Threadripper Pro 3995WX e la nuovissima AMD Radeon Pro W6800.

Lenovo è nel segmento delle workstation da molto tempo, e offre una solida piattaforma basata sull'hardware più recente con la serie ThinkStation P620. Ma il produttore non usa componenti standard in questo caso. Al contrario, viene utilizzata una piattaforma sviluppata su misura per le esigenze di una workstation. Nel nostro modello di test, il case ben progettato e modulare è equipaggiato con niente meno che il più potente processore AMD al momento e l'ultima scheda grafica per workstation di AMD.

L'AMD Ryzen Threadripper Pro 3995WX incontra la AMD Radeon Pro W6800.

L'AMD Ryzen Threadripper Pro 3995WX è una CPU a 64 cores con un totale di 128 threads. La scheda grafica è l'AMD Radeon Pro W6800, che succede alla AMD Radeon Pro W5700 ed è ora basata su RDNA2 come le attuali schede grafiche desktop gaming. Questo significa che la AMD Radeon Pro W6800 offre anche il supporto hardware per il ray tracing in tempo reale e può accedere a 32 GB di VRAM. Con un enorme 256 GB di RAM DDR4, anche le applicazioni molto impegnative in termini di memoria possono essere gestite senza problemi, perché grazie all'AMD Ryzen Threadripper Pro 3995WX, c'è il supporto octa-channel, che porta a velocità di trasferimento dati della RAM molto buone. A 256 GB, l'SSD installato nel nostro modello di test del P620 è molto piccolo in confronto. Sarebbe probabilmente meglio scegliere il modello successivo più grande quando si seleziona una configurazione.

Il produttore offre una varietà di opzioni in questo caso. Tuttavia, gli utenti che vogliono acquistare il dispositivo nella versione che stiamo recensendo dovranno scavare a fondo nelle loro tasche. Il prezzo base (3,179 Euro (~$3,739)) è molto lontano dalla configurazione Ultimate: Il sistema usato nella nostra recensione costa circa 13.000 euro (~$15.292).

Benchmark del processore - Il Threadripper Pro 3995WX è un mostro multi-core

L'AMD Ryzen Threadripper Pro 3995WX è un vero mostro di elaborazione considerando i risultati di benchmarks dei test multi-core. Con i suoi 64 cores e un totale di 128 threads, l'AMD Ryzen Threadripper Pro 3995WX è più adatto per le applicazioni che utilizzano più core di calcolo. Questo include anche la virtualizzazione di diversi computer su un sistema, tra le altre cose. Con i generosi 256 GB di RAM DDR4, questo non rappresenta una grande sfida per l'ammiraglia. Tuttavia, l'AMD Ryzen Threadripper Pro 3995WX non può approfittare dell'ultima architettura Zen3, dato che sotto l'enorme diffusore di calore sono installati otto dies Matisse, che a loro volta sono basati sull'architettura Zen2. Questo comporta anche il deficit relativamente grande nei test single-core rispetto ai processori Ryzen della generazione 5000. Allo stesso tempo, la frequenza di clock base della CPU a 64 cores di 2,7 GHz è anche un po' più conservativa. Tuttavia, il nostro modello di test può comunque competere con l'Intel Core i9-10980XE.

Lenovo utilizza un dissipatore a torre con due ventole, che fornisce un raffreddamento sufficiente per l'AMD Ryzen Threadripper Pro 3995WX. Applicazione e prestazioni di rendering

Nella nostra configurazione di test, la Lenovo ThinkStation P620 raggiunge valori relativamente buoni nei nostri benchmarks applicativi. L'AMD Radeon Pro W6800 può mostrare di cosa è capace nei test di rendering che abbiamo effettuato, come SPECviewperf 2020. In molte discipline individuali, è anche significativamente più veloce di una Nvidia Titan RTX, che può essere confrontata con una Quadro RTX 6000. Tuttavia, bisogna tenere a mente i diversi driver qui, perché la Quadro così come i modelli Radeon Pro hanno drivers speciali che offrono opzioni aggiuntive e sono ottimizzati per prestazioni elevate e stabilità nelle applicazioni professionali.

L'archiviazione integrata della nostra configurazione di test offre una capacità di 256 GB, e offre velocità di trasferimento molto veloci grazie al protocollo NVMe. A causa dello spazio di archiviazione molto limitato, abbiamo aggiunto il nostro Intel Optane 905P al sistema per questa recensione. Ha anche fornito valori molto buoni nel test, come si può vedere nelle immagini. Un totale di due SSD M.2 può essere installato sulla scheda madre. Emissioni

La Lenovo ThinkStation P620 è sorprendentemente silenziosa

Non ci si deve aspettare il massimo in termini di emissioni a causa dei componenti utilizzati. Tuttavia, il sistema sorprende con un rumore contenuto durante l'uso normale, che è udibile ma non fastidioso. Solo a pieno carico il Lenovo ThinkStation P620 attira l'attenzione su di sé a causa dell'accelerazione delle sue ventole. Il Threadripper Pro 3995WX mantiene il sangue freddo

L'AMD Radeon Pro W6800 diventa anche leggermente più calda della CPU (86 °C (~187 °F)) sotto carico estremo. GPU-Z indica un massimo di 99 °C (~210 °F) come temperatura del punto caldo. La ventola radiale della Radeon Pro W6800 ruota a poco meno di 2.000 rpm, che corrisponde a circa il 40%. Puoi anche regolare la velocità manualmente nelle impostazioni del driver Radeon, però. Ma allora diventa rumoroso abbastanza rapidamente, il che è principalmente dovuto alla singola ventola radiale. Il vantaggio di questo design è la rimozione diretta del calore residuo della scheda grafica fuori dal case.

Un carico elevato fa anche salire alle stelle il consumo di energia

Il consumo di energia della ThinkStation P620 è abbastanza alto in confronto al suo potente hardware. Tuttavia, il consumo di energia è messo in prospettiva quando si considerano le prestazioni previste del sistema. L'AMD Ryzen Threadripper Pro 3995WX ha un consumo energetico dichiarato fino a 280 watt, che effettivamente consuma sotto carico. A 86 °C (~187 °F), è anche molto caldo sotto carico, ma può ancora mantenere stabile il clock di base di 2,7 GHz. Notiamo il più alto consumo di energia nello stress test con 420 watt. Allo stesso tempo, però,anche l'AMD Radeon Pro W6800 richiede fino a 250 watt sotto carico. Questo spiega rapidamente perché Lenovo equipaggia il sistema con un alimentatore da 1.000 watt.

La Lenovo ThinkStation P620 è una moderna workstation senza molti orpelli. Lenovo installa l'hardware in un case abbastanza compatto e ben pensato, che si basa su una costruzione modulare. Particolare enfasi è posta sulla circolazione dell'aria, in modo che i componenti integrati possano sempre fornire le loro massime prestazioni, anche sotto carico.

L'AMD Ryzen Threadripper Pro 3995WX installato nel nostro sistema di test è una scelta top, in quanto è la CPU AMD Threadripper più veloce fino ad oggi. Il processore combina ben 64 cores e fornisce anche fino a 128 threads grazie a SMT. Questo rende la CPU ideale per applicazioni multithread estremamente ottimizzate che superano significativamente i normali requisiti. Nel nostro caso, il processore ha a disposizione 256 GB di RAM, che non è esattamente modesto nemmeno per una workstation. Tali grandezze si trovano altrimenti solo nei server. Molti scenari, come le macchine virtuali, possono essere implementati con questa configurazione. Gli utenti che hanno ancora bisogno di un'unità RAM possono anche afferrare un po' della generosa RAM senza che il sistema cada in ginocchio.

Con l'AMD Ryzen Threadripper Pro 3995WX, il Lenovo ThinkStation P620 offre la CPU più veloce per applicazioni ottimizzate multi-core fino ad oggi.

Ma la scheda grafica integrata è anche essenziale per una workstation. Nel nostro caso, il Lenovo ThinkStation P620 ospita la nuovissima AMD Radeon Pro W6800 con 32 GB di GDDR6 VRAM. Questa GPU è basata sull'ultima architettura RDNA2, con la quale abbiamo già familiarità con le schede grafiche da gioco della serie 6000. Il ray tracing in tempo reale è ora supportato nativamente. Questo significa che i carichi di lavoro corrispondenti possono essere elaborati molto più velocemente di prima. Con un massimo di sei display, lo spazio di lavoro virtuale può essere ampliato quasi illimitatamente. In alternativa, l'AMD Radeon Pro W6800 supporta anche due pannelli 8K nativi simultanei.

Lenovo offre una vasta gamma di PC workstation. Inoltre, il produttore fornisce una varietà di opzioni di configurazione per personalizzare il PC alle esigenze dell'utente. A ben 13,000 Euro (~$15,293), il nostro modello di prova non è certo un affare. La sola CPU costa attualmente almeno $5,000 su Amazon, per esempio. Se volete davvero massimizzare tutto, vi ritroverete facilmente con un PC workstation che costa oltre 30.000 euro (~$35.288).
