Recensione del Minisforum EliteMini B550: Mini PC compatto con scheda grafica esterna

Minisforum sta attirando una crescente attenzione in questo paese. Il loro portafoglio comprende già un'ampia gamma di Mini PC per l'uso quotidiano in ufficio. In precedenza era disponibile un PC da gioco compatto con il modello Minisforum EliteMini HX90. Quel modello, tuttavia, non disponeva di un processore grafico dedicato

Con il Minisforum EliteMini B550, Minisforum segue una strada un po' diversa. Innanzitutto, questo modello è un Mini PC molto compatto costruito su piattaforma AM4. Ciò significa che la versione Barebone può essere ordinata con un AMD Ryzen 7 5700G o un AMD Ryzen 7 4700G. Come parte dell'unità di elaborazione accelerata (APU) AMD, l'unità di elaborazione grafica integrata (iGPU) fornisce prestazioni grafiche limitate. Per ovviare a questo problema, è possibile ordinare un kit di montaggio che fornisce al Mini PC un'interfaccia per una scheda grafica esterna tramite un bus di espansione PCIe. Naturalmente, questo significa che è necessario avere a disposizione sia la scheda grafica esterna che l'alimentatore. Tutti gli altri cavi necessari sono forniti in dotazione.

In linea di principio, questa soluzione funziona bene. Allo stesso tempo ha l'aria di essere una misura provvisoria per aumentare le prestazioni grafiche.

Come già detto, il MinisForum EliteMini B550 è disponibile in versione barebone. Per questa versione si devono spendere 310 euro (319 dollari) senza CPU, RAM o SSD. Per un'unità completamente configurata (Ryzen 7 5700G, 32 GB di RAM e 512 GB di SSD) si parla di 749 euro (809 dollari). La nostra configurazione di prova è attualmente disponibile online a 669 euro. Questa include Ryzen 7 5700G, 16 GB di RAM e un'unità SSD M.2 da 512 GB e spazio per tre dispositivi di archiviazione di massa in totale. È incluso anche l'alimentatore.

È possibile ordinare una versione barebone con un AMD Ryzen 7 5700G o un AMD Ryzen 7 4700G. Come parte dell'unità di elaborazione accelerata (APU) AMD, l'unità di elaborazione grafica integrata (iGPU) offre prestazioni grafiche limitate. Per ovviare a questo problema, è possibile ordinare un kit di montaggio che fornisce al Mini PC un'interfaccia per una scheda grafica esterna tramite un bus di espansione PCIe. Naturalmente, questo significa che è necessario avere a disposizione sia la scheda grafica esterna che l'alimentatore. Tutti gli altri cavi necessari sono forniti in dotazione.

Minisforum EliteMini B550 in dettaglio

Caso

Da un punto di vista puramente visivo, il Minisforum EliteMini B550 si inserisce perfettamente nella famiglia dei PC EliteMini, anche se con una piccola divergenza dalla consueta combinazione di colori. Il Minisforum EliteMini B550 è prevalentemente grigio e nero e offre un impatto visivo complessivamente riuscito. All'avvio si accende una striscia LED blu che emula la luce di accensione. La soluzione di raffreddamento ricorda quella di altri Mini PC della scuderia Minisforum. Ma perché reinventare la ruota? L'aria viene aspirata dalla parte superiore del case e scaricata dalle pareti laterali.

I materiali dominano la plastica, con una punta di alluminio. L'aspetto e la sensazione dell'unità sono decisamente di alta qualità. Le staffe di montaggio della GPU presentano una lavorazione di qualità, anche se sono costituite da plastica e alluminio. La scheda grafica esterna deve essere inserita verticalmente nel suo slot PCIe sul Minisforum EliteMini B550 e successivamente avvitata in posizione. L'assemblaggio è molto stabile e il processo viene completato rapidamente. Con un peso di poco superiore al chilogrammo, il Minisforum EliteMini B550 è notevolmente leggero e con una base di soli 15,8 cm per 16,6 cm occupa pochissimo spazio sulla scrivania. L'alimentatore da 120 W aggiunge altri 600 grammi alla bilancia.

Apparecchiature di connessione

Il Minisforum EliteMini B550 offre una pletora di connessioni esterne. Tuttavia, una cosa che si nota è che tutte le porte più importanti si trovano nella parte posteriore del case. In totale sono presenti quattro porte USB 3.2 di tipo A e una porta di tipo C. I monitor sono collegati al Mini PC tramite HDMI o DisplayPort. È possibile collegare contemporaneamente fino a tre monitor in totale. Tuttavia, è necessario rinunciare alla comodità di un lettore di schede SD.

Apparecchiature di connessione

L'EliteMini B550 è dotato di un modulo WLAN MediaTek RZ608. Il nostro test non è stato molto convincente. Il Minisforum EliteMini B550 è finito in fondo alla classifica dei dispositivi comparabili. Una nota positiva, tuttavia, è che l'unità ha fornito una velocità di trasferimento dati stabile attraverso la WLAN. Inoltre, la nostra unità di prova includeva anche un'interfaccia RJ45 in grado di fornire velocità di trasferimento fino a 2,5 Gbps.

Prestazioni

CPU

L'APU ormai nota, l'AMD Ryzen 7 5700Gunisce gli otto core Z3 e una iGPU AMD Radeon RX Vega 8 sotto un diffusore di calore. Soffermiamoci un attimo sulle prestazioni della CPU del Minisforum EliteMini B550; prestazioni che possono più che tenere il passo con i desktop "grandi". Nel complesso, le prestazioni dell'AMD Ryzen 7 5700G sono buone, anche se in alcune categorie non sono all'altezza della nostra precedente recensione di questo processore. L'APU cede circa il 10% delle prestazioni nei test multicore. Tuttavia, le prestazioni sono paragonabili a quelle di un AMD Ryzen 5 5600X.

L'AMD Ryzen 7 5700G si comporta bene rispetto ai livelli di prestazioni di un AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX. Il processore mobile a 8 core di Intel è stato nettamente superato dal Ryzen. Abbiamo utilizzato il primo nella nostra recensione dello Zotac Magnus EN173070C

Soluzione per lo storage e le prestazioni delle applicazioni

Una configurazione di base del Minisforum EliteMini B550 senza scheda grafica esterna riesce a superare sia l'EliteMini TH50 che l'EliteMini HM90. Ma quando lo confrontiamo con il Minisforum EliteMini HX le cose diventano un po' più difficili. Anche se solo pochi punti percentuali separano i due, la differenza non è davvero evidente. Tuttavia, una volta che la scheda grafica dedicata è in gioco, questo non è più il caso. La nostra scelta di una Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 è rappresentativa di una scheda che si colloca nella fascia alta dei prodotti di fascia media di questo tipo. In quanto tale, fornisce al Minisforum EliteMini B550 delle prestazioni grafiche di tutto rispetto. Il miglioramento delle prestazioni di una scheda grafica dedicata rispetto alla iGPU è semplicemente enorme. Nonostante ciò, questa accoppiata si colloca ancora dietro allo Zotac ZBOXMagnus EN173070C in termini di prestazioni

L'unità di archiviazione di massa installata nella nostra unità di test è della linea Kingston e fornisce solide prestazioni. All'interno del case è possibile installare un totale di tre unità di archiviazione di massa.
