Potenza a buon mercato. La controparte da 17" del VivoBook Pro che abbiamo recensito l'anno scorso ora è nei nostri laboratori. Ora monta una CPU di ottava generazione Intel Core i7-8550U, GTX 1050, display IPS, ed SSD NVMe, saranno stati risolti i problemi che abbiamo riscontrato nella precedente unità? Vediamolo insieme..

Tempi di risposta del Display

I tempi di risposta del display mostrano quanto sia veloce lo schermo a cambaire da un colore all'altro. Tempi di risposta lenti poccono creare sovrapposizioni negloi oggetti in movimento. Specialmente i giocatori patiti del 3D dovrebbero usare uno schermo con rempi di risposta bassi.

Sfarfallio dello schermo / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

To dim the screen, some notebooks will simply cycle the backlight on and off in rapid succession - a method called Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) . This cycling frequency should ideally be undetectable to the human eye. If said frequency is too low, users with sensitive eyes may experience strain or headaches or even notice the flickering altogether.

The frequency of 119000 Hz is quite high, so most users sensitive to PWM should not notice any flickering.

In comparison: 53 % of all tested devices do not use PWM to dim the display. If PWM was detected, an average of 8929 (minimum: 43 - maximum: 142900) Hz was measured.

Non c'è nulla sul VivoBook Pro 17 che possa far girare la testa, ma ancora una volta, non si tratta di un dispositivo che si colloca in una particolare categoria. Ma questo può essere anche un aspetto positivo, che attira coloro che cercano una macchina in grado di gestire le attività quotidiane come un vero tuttofare, passando anche al gaming occasionale, il tutto senza dover pagare un prezzo esorbitante, e senza puntare su estetica, design, e frizzi e lazzi.

Non c'è nulla sul VivoBook Pro 17 che possa far girare la testa, ma ancora una volta, non si tratta di un dispositivo che si colloca in una particolare categoria. Ma questo può essere anche un aspetto positivo, che attira coloro che cercano una macchina tuttofare, passando anche al gaming occasionale, il tutto senza dover pagare un prezzo esorbitante—a prezzo di qualche pecca.

In definitiva riesce nel suo obiettivo. Il sottile e leggero VivoBook Pro 17 ha prestazioni complessive di sistema molto buone, un SSD veloce, e gestiste normali sessioni di gioco senza problemi. Anche il display nel complesso è buono, con luminosità elevata, buoni angoli di visuale, e rispettabile riproduzione del colore, oltre ad una rifinitura matta.

Ma abbiamo le nostre riserve, e non sono nemmeno da poco. Sebbene il VivoBook Pro 17 risolva alcuni problemi riscontrati sul modello da 15", il Core i7-8550U (come accade spesso) non mantiene bene le prestazioni multi-core per giustificare questa scelta rispetto ad un Core i5-8250U (sebbene le prestazioni single-core siano ovviamente migliori). Inoltre la macchina ha una selezione di porte limitate, un case in plastica, manutenzione difficile, una tastiera con un layout strano, temperature di superficie elevate, ed una autonomia breve. Se nessuno di questi aspetti vi preoccupa, allora vale la pena prendere questo modello rispetto ai concorrenti più costosi (come il Dell XPS 15 9560). Ma alternative con prezo simile e diversi punti di forza e punti deboli sono disponibili a dozzine (come l'Acer Aspire 7 A71-71G-72VY)—quindi la vera risposta a cui far fronte è "a cosa sono disposto a rinunciare"?
