Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

To dim the screen, some notebooks will simply cycle the backlight on and off in rapid succession - a method called Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) . This cycling frequency should ideally be undetectable to the human eye. If said frequency is too low, users with sensitive eyes may experience strain or headaches or even notice the flickering altogether.

Il VivoBook Flip 15 è un convertibile sottile e compatto da 15.6" molto adatto ad applicazioni da ufficio ed internet grazie al processore ULV quad-core. Resta fresco indipendentemente dal carico e molto silenzioso per la maggior parte del tempo.

E' abbastanza scattante grazie al veloce SSD, ed il suo hard disk da 1 TB 2.5" offre molto spazio. Entrambi i drives possono essere sostituiti o aggiornati, sebbene sia necessario aprire il case in quanto manca una cover di manutenzione.

La tastiera è decente per l'utilizzo domestico ed ha una buona retroilluminazione. L'autonomia, come rilevato nel test Wi-Fi è mediocre. Al massimo ci sono 30 minuti extra teoricamente possibili con una batteria nuova e non degradata, il che non influisce sul punteggio finale del portatile.

Il touchscreen IPS ha un buon contrasto ed ampi angoli di visuale. Tuttavia, la luminosità massima è troppo bassa. Un portatile con il prezzo di un VivoBook deve essere più luminoso. Oltre all'input con le dita, il touchscreen supporta anche la penna opzionale Asus ($50).

Prezzo e prestazioni sono sproporzionati tra loro.

Nel complesso, il portatile ha troppe pecche considerando un prezzo di ben $900: il display è troppo scuro, la tastiera si flette, e l'autonomia è mediocre nella migliore delle ipotesi. A peggiorare le cose il dispositivo ha un solo modulo di memoria in modalità single-channel, pertanto non è veloce come potrebbe essere con la presenza di due moduli. La connettività è abbastanza ortodossa - una porta Thunderbolt 3 sarebbe stata sicuramente gradita. Infine, ma non per ultimo, con un prezzo di $900 l'Asus Pen dovrebbe essere inclusa.
