Il Dell XPS 13 è un eccellente subnotebook ed in quanto tale merita un posto nella nostra Top 10. Una autonomia di 11,5 ore, un display con una copertura del 90% sRGB ed una luminosità decente, un robusto chassis in alluminio, una ventola silenziosa, un suono decente considerate le dimensioni, molte porte e manutenzione facile - tutti questi attributi lo rendono un dispositivo da 13" molto desiderabile.

La domanda principale che ci siamo posti all'inizio di questa recensione: la CPU Kaby Lake R i5 è adeguata o vale la pena passare alla i7?

A nostro parere, il SoC lower-end è più che sufficiente per la maggioranza di utenti - indipendentemente dal tipo di utilizzo che se ne farà. Entrambi i processori i5 ed i7 limitano la velocità quando sono soggetti a carichi prolungati e le prestazioni scendono dell'8 e del 9 %, rispettivamente. Mai durante il test i cores hanno raggiunto la velocità massima teorica del Turbo di 3.4 e 4.0 GHz. La differenza di prestazioni CPU tra le versioni i5 e i7 dell'XPS 13 sono molto limitate e variano tra un +19 % al massimo e +7 % nella peggiore delle ipotesi (Test single vs. multi-thread). L'i7 pulls si porta avanti quando parliamo di prestazioni di sistema (+ 8 %).

Entrambe le versioni dell'XPS 13 superano altri subnotebooks come HP Envy 13-ad006ng o Apple MacBook Pro 13 2017 rispetto alle loro CPUs - Kaby Lake R con 8 threads. L'i7, ad esempio, ha un vantaggio di prestazioni del 70 % (R15 Multi, Kaby i7 vs Kaby R i7). La nuova quad-core i5 è fino al 75% più veloce rispetto alla precedente dual-core 7200U (R15 Multi).
