Razor's edge. L'ultimo Blade Pro perde molto di ciò che ha reso unico il Blade Pro dell'anno scorso. Forse sorprendentemente, le modifiche e i downgrades sono stati fatti per migliorare il bilanciamento sul fronte gaming.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

To dim the screen, some notebooks will simply cycle the backlight on and off in rapid succession - a method called Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) . This cycling frequency should ideally be undetectable to the human eye. If said frequency is too low, users with sensitive eyes may experience strain or headaches or even notice the flickering altogether.

Il Blade Pro è un portatile gaming particolare. Sulla carta, le specifiche non sono nulla di speciale; CPU i7-7700HQ, GPU GTX 1060 e display 1080p IPS sono lo standard sui sistemi più economici come Gigabyte Aero 15, Asus FX502, o Gigabyte P55W. I giocatori che non hanno molti soldi potrebbero non gradire il fatto che l'Acer Aspire 7 ha prestazioni simili al Blade Pro GTX 1060 ad un prezzo nettamente inferiore.

I punti di forza del Blade Pro sono la costruzione, le caratteristiche termiche ed il design. Lo chassis è più robusto rispetto a quanto sembra ed oggettivamente è meno cedevole rispetto agli ultresottili come la serie MSI GS, la serie Asus Zephyrus, e la serie Aorus X7. L'EVGA SC17 e l'MSI GT73VR sono forse i principali concorrenti come rigidità, ma sono anche più spessi ed ingombranti rispetto al Razer. Il Blade Pro è un ottimo esempio di spessore ridotto senza sacrificare le qualità fisiche di un portatile gaming con design più grande.

Qualche features hardware oltre all'eccellente chassis è da citare. La RAM aggiornabile, il refresh rate da 120 Hz, e lo slot da 2.5" sono piacevoli sorprese considerando che il Blade Pro più economico non ha queste opzioni. I clocks High Turbo Boost sono sostenibili e le temperature durante il gaming sono inferiori alle attese con 60 - 70° C. Anche le temperature di superficie sono nettamente inferiori rispetto ai sistemi concorrenti. Si tratta di un sottile portatile gaming senza le tipiche pecche di questa categoria.

Ci sono dei miglioramenti chiave che vorremmo vedere anche sulle prossime SKU. Innanzitutto maggiori opzioni display con tempi di risposta migliori che sicuramente attirano i giocatori accaniti anche se bisogna rinunciare agli ampi angoli di visuali dell'IPS. Il ghosting è un effetto diffuso sulla maggioranza di portatili MSI ed il recente Aorus X7 lo evidenzia. In secondo luogo, un miglior controllo della ventola tramite Synapse sarebbe un'ottima aggiunta per gli utenti che vogliono maggior silenziosità anche a costo di temperature superiori. Il Blade Pro GTX 1060 è già molto silenzioso quando non si gioca, ma diventa rumoroso come i concorrenti sotto stress. Infine, opzioni GPU più veloci darebbero maggior valore al sistema. Il case è stato progettato per ospitare fino a una GTX 1080 e le temperature sono eccellenti con la GTX 1060, quindi possiamo immaginare come sarebbe con una GTX 1070 o anche una GTX 1070 Max-Q.

Altri piccoli dettagli come una corsa maggiore dei tasti, un subwoofer, un trackpad migliore, e opzioni mini-DisplayPort integrate darebbero al sistema una prospettiva migliore, considerando il prezzo. Ma non dobbiamo però dimenticare quello che già offre questo dispositivo.

Il Blade Pro GTX 1060 è il meglio dei due mondi. Sottile e attraente come portatile gaming ma con hardware potente e temperature basse come quelle dei dispositivi più grandi. Il potenziale delle GPUs Max-Q e un display con tempi di risposta inferiori non sono ancora presenti per questa SKU.
