Il portatile da gioco compatto di Asus è in grado di riprodurre ogni gioco attuale senza problemi sul display Full HD opaco. Inoltre, la CPU a sei core fornisce prestazioni sufficienti per applicazioni che vanno oltre il gaming. Le temperature e il rumore del sistema rimangono ad un livello ragionevole.

L'unità SSD NVMe integrata garantisce un sistema estremamente rapido. Il display IPS opaco offre angoli di visualizzazione stabili, un buon rapporto di contrasto, luminosità decente e tempi di risposta rapidi. La durata della batteria non è emozionante. Lo Zephyrus S si esaurisce prima della concorrenza.

La possibilità di upgrade del portatile è molto limitata.

Il GC531GM fornisce un solo slot M.2-2280. Non c'è spazio per un disco rigido da 2,5 pollici. Inoltre, il laptop ha un solo slot di memoria (8 GB di RAM sono saldati sulla scheda madre). Il dispositivo supporta fino a 24 GB di memoria. Molti concorrenti offrono più RAM. Per accedere alle parti interne, è necessario aprire il case. Mentre si può semplicemente rimuovere il case inferiore su molti altri computer portatili, la procedura sullo Zephyrus S è molto più complicata.

Anche la connettività non è ottima. Asus non equipaggia il suo portatile con una porta Thunderbolt-3 ma solo con due porte USB Type-C (1x USB 3.1 Gen1, 1x USB 3.1 Gen2). Una porta Thunderbolt-3 dovrebbe essere standard su un dispositivo a questo prezzo. Questo fornirebbe la possibilità di collegare una GPU esterna. Una delle tre porte USB di tipo A presenta lo standard USB 3.1 Gen2. Le altre due porte sono solo USB-2.0. Asus avrebbe dovuto essere coerente e dotare il laptop di tre veloci porte di tipo A. Inoltre, c'è un costante coil whine proveniente dall'interno del dispositivo.
