Come già sappiamo, il Minisforum Neptune Series HX99G può essere ordinato dal negozio online del produttore. È inoltre possibile acquistare il dispositivo in diverse configurazioni. La versione barebone senza RAM, SSD o licenza di Windows parte da 959 Euro (~$1029), mentre per la nostra configurazione di prova bisogna aspettarsi 1.099 Euro (~$1179). Dal punto di vista visivo, non ci sono praticamente differenze tra i modelli Minisforum Neptune Serie HX90Ge il Minisforum Neptune Series HX99G. Il case continua a essere costruito principalmente in plastica, con l'aggiunta di alcuni piccoli elementi visivi in carbonio. La lavorazione della nostra unità di prova è buona, anche se avremmo apprezzato una selezione di materiali di qualità superiore. Con laMinisforum Neptune Serie NAD9il produttore ha già dimostrato che le cose possono essere fatte anche in modo diverso. Il computer include un supporto che consente di posizionarlo verticalmente sulla scrivania. Ma non è necessario utilizzarlo, poiché è possibile utilizzare il dispositivo anche in orizzontale senza problemi.

Rispetto all'HX90G, le dimensioni sono identiche, ma con un peso di 1,6 kg (~3,5 lb), notiamo una chiara differenza nel peso, con il Minisforum Neptune Series HX99G che pesa quasi 200 grammi (~7 oz) in più, il che è probabilmente dovuto a un raffreddamento più potente. L'alimentatore esterno porta sulla bilancia altri 650 grammi (~1,5 lb).

Modulo WLAN nel Minisforum Neptune Serie HX99G

Minisforum utilizza un modulo Wi-Fi 6E di Mediatek nel Neptune Series HX99G. Un modulo WLAN identico è utilizzato anche nel modello HX90G e nel modello recentemente testato Minisforum Serie Venus UM690. Nel test pratico con il nostro router di prova Asus ROG Rapture GT-AXE11000, notiamo una prestazione simile a quella dei concorrenti dello stesso produttore. Tuttavia, non è in grado di raggiungere le prestazioni di un Intel Wi-Fi 6E-AX210. Per una connessione dati più veloce, è possibile utilizzare in alternativa la porta LAN, che supporta un massimo di 2,5 Gbit/s.

Oltre al computer stesso, la confezione include anche l'alimentatore da 262 Watt e il supporto che consente di posizionare il computer in orizzontale.

Manutenzione

In pratica, con il Minisforum Neptune Series HX99G è possibile eseguire operazioni di manutenzione, dato che è possibile acquistare il dispositivo anche in versione barebone. Tuttavia, abbiamo ancora una lamentela sullo stesso punto dell'HX99G, come già nel caso dell'HX90G HX90Gla costruzione di base è la stessa. Le viti per aprire il case sono nascoste sotto le strisce di gomma su cui poggia il dispositivo quando è posizionato orizzontalmente, quindi dopo la loro rimozione si rischia che le strisce non aderiscano più correttamente. Dopo aver rimosso le viti, il fondo del case può essere aperto con relativa facilità. Al di sotto, si trova un'ulteriore copertura metallica che è necessario rimuovere per accedere alla RAM, all'SSD o al modulo Wi-Fi. Questa piastra metallica serve a mantenere le coperture laterali. Per accedere alle due ventole, è necessario smontare ulteriormente il dispositivo, ma questo può essere fatto facilmente con un po' di abilità. Il produttore consiglia esplicitamente di non rimuovere il dissipatore di calore dal SoC e dalla GPU. La pasta termica per facilitare la rimozione del calore è già stata applicata, quindi, a nostro avviso, non dovrebbe essere necessario modificare nulla.

Prestazioni - SoC AMD Rembrandt con buone prestazioni

Minisforum ha equipaggiato la serie Neptune HX99G con il nuovo processore AMDRyzen 9 6900HX. A prima vista, l'aggiornamento dell'HX90G offre solo un piccolo aumento delle prestazioni, ma con le DDR5 e la Thunderbolt 4, il valore aggiuntivo della nuova piattaforma può essere piuttosto elevato. Con laAMD Radeon RX 6600Mè presente anche una scheda grafica piuttosto potente che ci permette di vedere il dispositivo come un PC da gioco.

Condizioni di prova

Abbiamo eseguito tutti i test sulle prestazioni con il profilo energetico "Prestazioni massime" attivato. Non abbiamo modificato i parametri di alimentazione della CPU, lasciandola in modalità "Auto" secondo le impostazioni del BIOS.

Processore

IlAMD Ryzen 9 6900HXè un moderno processore octa-core dell'attuale line-up Rembrandt, in grado di operare su un totale di 16 thread in parallelo. Nel Minisforum Neptune Series HX99G, questo sostituisce il processoreAMD Ryzen 9 5900HXconsentendo di aumentare leggermente le prestazioni complessive. Tuttavia, questo è ancora lontano da un aumento delle prestazioni evidente, ed entrambi i SoC offrono la stessa velocità soggettiva. Poiché Minisforum offre anche la serie Neptune come HX80G con AMD Ryzen 7 5800H, abbiamo incluso anche questo SoC nella nostra tabella di confronto.

Attualmente l'SSD di Kingston viene utilizzato relativamente spesso nei mini-PC di Minisforum. Questo è anche il caso del Minisforum Neptune Series HX99G, che offre prestazioni molto buone. Con 512 GB, il modello qui utilizzato non offre uno spazio di archiviazione particolarmente elevato ed è anche il modello più piccolo che il produttore offre nei suoi sistemi preconfigurati. Tuttavia, trattandosi di un dispositivo di gioco, dovrebbe essere presente almeno 1 TB di spazio di archiviazione. Le prestazioni 3D del Minisforum Neptune Series HX99G sono gestite da una parte dalla AMD Radeon 680Me dall'altro dalla AMD Radeon RX 6600Mcome adattatore grafico dedicato quando sono necessarie prestazioni più elevate. Oltre all'iGPU, il mini-PC offre in questo modo solide prestazioni 3D per le applicazioni più esigenti. Lo sappiamo già dallaMinisforum Neptune Series HX90Ge da varie recensioni di computer portatili. Minisforum non limita le prestazioni massime della scheda grafica dedicata, consentendo all'acceleratore 3D di consumare fino a 100 watt.

Durante il confronto delle prestazioni sintetiche, la nostra unità di prova si posiziona solo nella parte bassa del campo di confronto. L'età della AMD Radeon RX 6600Mè ormai evidente e i successori basati su RDNA-3 si stanno preparando. Chi ha ancora bisogno di prestazioni 3D più elevate può utilizzare la connessione Thunderbolt, che al momento è offerta solo nel modello HX99G della serie. Ci siamo messi all'opera e abbiamo documentato le prestazioni in combinazione con il Razer Core X e una scheda Nvidia RTX 30 Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 Ti. In questo modo, nel nostro confronto otteniamo una prestazione che corrisponde a quella del Minisforum NUCXi7con una Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop. Allo stesso tempo, bisogna comunque fare i conti con notevoli limitazioni delle prestazioni, dato che utilizzando Thunderbolt, la scheda grafica esterna è collegata solo tramite 4 corsie PCI Express.

Prestazioni di gioco

Grazie allaAMD Radeon RX 6600Mle prestazioni di gioco puro del Minisforum Neptune Series HX99G sono buone e offrono circa la stessa velocità del Min isforum Neptune Series HX90G Minisforum Neptune Series HX90G. Il SoC più veloce non è in grado di garantire prestazioni sensibilmente superiori. Rispetto al Lenovo Legion 5 con la stessa scheda grafica, il nostro campione di prova è nettamente in vantaggio. Il motivo è il consumo energetico dell'acceleratore di pixel dedicato, che con Minisforum raggiunge un massimo di 100 watt .

Quando abbiamo parlato dei benchmark sintetici, abbiamo già menzionato la possibilità di collegare una scheda grafica esterna tramite Thunderbolt. Ma nei test di gioco puro, la configurazione che utilizza Razer Core X e Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 Tinon è in grado di fornire prestazioni convincenti. Il raffreddamento del Minisforum Neptune Series HX99G consiste in un totale di sette heat pipe e due grandi ventole. Minisforum utilizza una pasta termica per trasferire perfettamente il calore dai die del SoC e della GPU ai dissipatori. Durante il funzionamento in idle, il sistema funziona quasi sempre in modo molto silenzioso e a 31,7 dB(A), quasi in silenzio. Sotto il carico dello stress test, il nostro dispositivo di misurazione riporta appena più di 36 dB(A). Temperature

Le temperature del case del Minisforum Neptune Series HX99G non presentano alcun problema. Con un massimo di 77,5 °C (171,5 °F), il processore AMD Ryzen 9 6900HXnon diventa particolarmente caldo e rimane lontano dal suo limite termico. Tuttavia, le cose sembrano leggermente diverse con la scheda grafica dedicata, come abbiamo già visto in precedenza nel Minisforum Neptune Sereis HX90G. Anche se a 76 °C (169 °F) il problema non è il chip in sé, vediamo una temperatura molto elevata nei convertitori di tensione a 102 °C (216 °F). I valori separati sono minimamente migliori se torturiamo il dispositivo con il solo FurMark. In questo caso vediamo solo 97 °C (207 °F), mentre la temperatura era ancora di 103 °C (217 °F) nel modelloHX90G. Sembra che il produttore abbia ottimizzato leggermente il dissipatore. Durante lo stress test, che simula uno scenario estremo, le temperature aumentano rispetto al funzionamento quotidiano, a causa del carico estremo su CPU e GPU. Nella nostra unità di test non abbiamo osservato alcun throttling delle prestazioni dovuto a temperature troppo elevate.

Consumo di energia

Per quanto riguarda il consumo energetico, la maggior parte dei mini-PC ha quasi sempre un vantaggio rispetto ai normali PC desktop, grazie ai loro componenti efficienti. Con un consumo energetico compreso tra 16,8 e 23,1 watt durante il funzionamento inattivo, il Minisforum Neptune Series HX99G è abbastanza efficiente. A pieno carico, durante lo stress test con Prime95 e FurMark, l'alimentatore deve essere in grado di fornire fino a 262 watt. Dato che il suo valore nominale è di 262 watt, è abbastanza grande da fornire al dispositivo una potenza sufficiente e affidabile. Durante il test non abbiamo riscontrato alcun problema con l'alimentazione.

Test del Minisforum Neptune Series HX99G, unità di prova fornita da Minisforum

Con il Minisforum Neptune Series HX99G, il produttore esegue una manutenzione del prodotto sui suoi PC da gioco molto compatti. Con il nuovo AMD Ryzen 9 6900HXc'è un SoC veloce, anche se non è in grado di garantire un aumento sensibile delle prestazioni rispetto all'AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX. A causa della struttura compatta, vediamo che, come spesso accade, la tecnologia dei laptop viene utilizzata anche in questi PC compatti. Di solito questo funziona molto bene, dato che le prestazioni dei componenti separati sono aumentate enormemente negli ultimi anni. Con il processore octa-core nativo (AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX), le prestazioni sono sufficienti e, in combinazione con il processore AMD Radeon RX 6600Mè possibile divertirsi anche con i giochi più attuali. Secondo i nostri test, è possibile giocare senza limiti a 1080p e con le impostazioni di dettaglio più elevate.

Come il Minisforum Neptune Series HX90G, anche l'attuale modello HX99G utilizza un case quasi identico. Visivamente, le differenze sono minime. Tuttavia, se si osserva attentamente, si possono notare alcune differenze sul retro, dovute a una moderna varietà di connessioni. Ora c'è USB4 e Thunderbolt, che è disponibile solo nel modello HX99G in combinazione con il processore AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX. Ciò consente di ampliare notevolmente lo spettro degli scenari di utilizzo del computer compatto. Tuttavia, abbiamo ancora una lamentela: l'HDMI consente solo 4K@60Hz. D'altra parte, è possibile far funzionare due schermi 8K a 60 Hz utilizzando l'USB4, o in alternativa utilizzare questa porta per 4K@144Hz. Data la classe del dispositivo (PC da gioco), possiamo superare la mancanza di un lettore di schede.

Il Minisforum Neptune Series HX90G è un PC da gioco compatto ed elegante per giocare in Full-HD senza compromessi.

Vogliamo anche sottolineare positivamente i bassi valori di emissione del Minisforum Neptune Series HX99G sotto carico. Il dispositivo è relativamente silenzioso, anche se ci sono due ventole che soffiano il calore dal case. La nostra unità di prova è stata in grado di eseguire tutti i test con prestazioni solide e senza grandi passi falsi. In termini di prestazioni del sistema, è in grado di tenere il passo con i normali PC desktop e anche le prestazioni di gioco sono rispettabili grazie alla AMD Radeon RX 6600M.

I concorrenti di Minisforum Neptune Series HX99G sono principalmente altri dispositivi interni come Minisforum Neptune Series HX90G o Minisforum NUCXi Minisforum NUCXi7. Ma ci sono anche alcuni portatili che sono in grado di competere con l'HX99G, dato che con il Lenovo Legion 5c'è un dispositivo interessante con un equipaggiamento simile che attualmente costa 1.380 euro (~$1.481).
