AMD da ufficio. Questo HP da 17.3" è realizzato per coloro che cercano un semplice portatile da usare a casa. Di conseguenza, il computer ma molto spazio di archiviazione (1 TB) e RAM più che sufficiente (8 GB; modalità dual-channel). Tuttavia, sono gli highlights del portatile. Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

To dim the screen, some notebooks will simply cycle the backlight on and off in rapid succession - a method called Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) . This cycling frequency should ideally be undetectable to the human eye. If said frequency is too low, users with sensitive eyes may experience strain or headaches or even notice the flickering altogether.

La potenza di calcolo dell'APU AMD è perfettamente sufficiente per applicazioni da ufficio e web. Il portatile si scalda poco e può - almeno in idle - restare silenzioso. Non avrete problemi di spazio grazie all'hard drive da 1 TB. E' possibile sostituire l'HDD con un SSD, ma occorre aprire il case, e il portatile non ha una cover per la manutenzione. La tastiera è abbastanza buona per l'utilizzo domestico. L'autonomia non è straordinaria, ma va bene per un dispositivo da 17.3". Il display matto ha una scarsa luminosità, contrasto basso, e angoli di visuale instabili. 

Con il 17-y044ng, HP realizza un decente portatile da 17.3" per la scrivania di casa. Tuttavia, ha molte pecche.

A parte i punti deboli ovvi, ce ne sono altri non visibili immediatamente: ad esempio, HP offre solo un anno di garanzia; molti concorrenti offrono due ann. In aggiunta, il chip WLAN non supporta il veloce standard AC. HP taglia anche in termini di Ethernet: questo portatile da 17.3" offre solo una Fast Ethernet. Inoltre, non ci sono porte USB Type-C.

L'HP 17 costa circa 500 Euro (~$539). Per questo prezzo, sarà difficile trovare dei clienti, in quanto la concorrenza offre molto di più per prezzi inferiori. L'Acer Aspire E5-774 è un degno esempio. Il modello testato offre molta più potenza con il processore Core i5-7200U, uno schermo Full HD più luminoso, USB Type-C, Gigabit Ethernet, una cover di manutenzione, e uno slot libero M.2. Il prezzo attualmente è di circa 550 Euro (~$593, senza Windows), poco più costoso dell'HP 17.
