I tempi di risposta del display mostrano quanto sia veloce lo schermo a cambaire da un colore all'altro. Tempi di risposta lenti poccono creare sovrapposizioni negloi oggetti in movimento. Specialmente i giocatori patiti del 3D dovrebbero usare uno schermo con rempi di risposta bassi.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

To dim the screen, some notebooks will simply cycle the backlight on and off in rapid succession - a method called Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) . This cycling frequency should ideally be undetectable to the human eye. If said frequency is too low, users with sensitive eyes may experience strain or headaches or even notice the flickering altogether.

L'E480 con dGPU non è riuscito ad entusiasmarci ed assicurarsi un endorsement nonostante l'ottimo rapporto prezzo-performance soprattutto perché si scalda troppo, un problema che si verifica anche sul più grande E580, sebbene con conseguenze minori.

L'E580 ha molte similitudini con il fratello minore, come l'eccellente tastiera, la combinazione di TrackPoint e touchpad, l'ottima possibilità di upgrade, e il decente display IPS (a parte la copertura della gamma di colore). In aggiunta, il case è migliorato molto rispetto all'E570.

Tuttavia, non è tutto oro ciò che luccica, e l'E580 eredita anche molti punti deboli. Partiamo dal lento SSD. Inoltre, l'E580 usa un lettore microSD invece di un lettore full-size SD, e non comprendiamo questa decisione di Lenovo. La gestione termica è sotto la media, e le temperature di superficie arrivando fino a 60 °C (~140 °F) risultano troppo alte. Almeno la ventola è meno fastidiosa, un piccolo progresso. Sfortunatamente tutto questo ha un prezzo: le prestazioni CPU sono deludenti. L'i7-8550U che dovrebbe essere più veloce, risulta più lento rispetto all'i5-8250U dell'E480. Sebbene sia molto più veloce rispetto alla CPU dual-core del precedessore, il passaggio dell'E580 dall'i5 all'i7 è davvero un dubbio. L'autonomia è appena mediocre come con l'E480, e la garanzia è limitata a 12 mesi. Infine, ma non per ultimo, le prestazioni della GPU sono limitate quando si usa la batteria, un aspetto fastidioso.

L'E580 sicuramente si scalda meno rispetto al fratello minore. E prendendo in considerazione il rapporto prezzo-prestazioni riesce a ricevere la nostra raccomandazione.

Nonostante tutti gli aspetti negativi, l'E580 merita il nostro endorsement, ma non senza riserve. Solo le SKUs i5 meritano l'acquisto, e usare il portatile sulle gambe diventa a volte problematico. A parte questi problemi, l'E580 è un solido portatile da ufficio con capacità gaming ed ambizioni multimedia.
