Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

If said frequency is too low, users with sensitive eyes may experience strain or headaches or even notice the flickering altogether.

Abbiamo sensazioni miste: da un lato l'Asus ROG Strix GL703VD è un portatile gaming ben costruito ed estremamente sottile da 17" con buone prestazioni, che ha una decente ergonomia e monta un display Full HD molto luminoso e matto. La combinazione di un SSD primario ed di un drive per l'archiviazione migliora le prestazioni e riesce a contendere con qualche Ultrabooks in termini di autonomia della batteria.

Ma ci sono anche pecche significative: per essere un portatile con una GPU entry-level, il GL703VD è troppo rumoroso e si scalda troppo - almeno con carichi estremi, le temperature di superficie sono molto più basse durante il gaming. Con un massimo di 53 dB e con temperature di 70° C, si scalda quasi quanto dispositivi con CPU e le schede grafiche desktop. Possiamo solo sperare che Asus riveda il sistema di raffreddamento sulle prossime edizioni SCAR ed Hero con schede grafiche più potenti GTX 1060.

Al momento, sfortunatamente non vediamo vere ragioni per scegliere lo Strix GL703VD rispetto ai numerosi portatili gaming che montano una GTX 1050.

Coloro che cercano un portatile sottile e leggero con prestazioni elevate da 17.3" possono scegliere invece la serie Strix GL702. Anche se monta una GTX 1070, il GL702 si scalda di meno e non è molto rumoroso. Una versione con GeForce GTX 1070, i7-7700HQ, 12GB di RAM ed SSD da 128GB + HDD da 1TB costa appena $200 in più rispetto al dispositivo che abbiamo appena recensito.
