When a manufacturer provides drivers (either backported from a newer kernel or supplied for the PC in question), the seamless experience makes you want to lean back and enjoy the OS. Frankly, I wish more PC makers would do what Dell did and offer their hardware to consumers, prepared and equipped for a Linux experience.

Using the base principles of the XPS lineup, the Precision 5520 is one of the most portable and well-designed workstations we’ve ever come across. With the use of high-quality premium materials, the laptop is not only super rigid but also thin and light. And thanks to the thin screen bezels, the machine fits into the 14-inch category with ease. The input devices are comfortable as well and we are not talking only about work on the go. We weren’t expecting anything less with this price tag, though.

Il Precision 5530 è, per molti versi, quello che avrebbe dovuto essere il Precision 5520. Sebbene la macchina aggiornata sia ancora alle prese con il thermal throttling, la stabilità e le prestazioni della CPU sono migliorate. Anche la GPU è stata aggiornata senza grandi sacrifici per quanto riguarda la produzione di calore. L'esperienza complessiva è decisamente migliore.
Il Precision 5530 è, per molti versi, quello che avrebbe dovuto essere il Precision 5520. Sebbene la macchina aggiornata sia ancora alle prese con il thermal throttling, la stabilità e le prestazioni della CPU sono migliorate. The Dell Precision 5760 is a 17-inch mobile workstation with a lot to offer. The near bezel-free screen is superb in its 4K iteration, as sent to me for review, and the speakers do it proud. Configuration options extend to a Xeon W processor, Nvidia RTX A3000 graphics and 8TB of storage, the keyboard is exceptional and the build is very solid. There are a few downsides, however. The 720p webcam is average, battery life is lacklustre, and those seeking more muscular configurations will need to dig deep into their pockets. Working with the 4K screen I would struggle to get a full day's work out of a full battery charge. Even the base model in the UK costs £2,352.64 (inc. VAT) and its Core i5 processor, integrated graphics, non-touch FHD+ screen, 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage are far below what most workstation users will require.

Do people still use the word “smitten” anymore? I have a huge crush on the Dell Precision 5760 workstation, and it grows the more I use it. Its 17-inch display is captivating, endlessly immersive, and just a joy to work on. The 5760 is sleek and doesn’t feel at all like it weighs 5.5 pounds. From its 0.34 inches thick, tactile deck to its massive clicky keyboard and touchpad and 8-plus hours of battery life, I could offer endless platitudes for the Precision, but I digress. I will add that within its test group it is the most affordable workstation, starting at just $2,059, and should you be in the market for a workstation, the Dell Precision 5760 is an excellent option.

Its 17-inch display is captivating, endlessly immersive, and just a joy to work on. The 5760 is sleek and doesn’t feel at all like it weighs 5.5 pounds. From its 0.34 inches thick, tactile deck to its massive clicky keyboard and touchpad and 8-plus hours of battery life, I could offer endless platitudes for the Precision, but I digress. I will add that within its test group it is the most affordable workstation, starting at just $2,059, and should you be in the market for a workstation, the Dell Precision 5760 is an excellent option.

The Dell Precision 5760 is a 17-inch mobile workstation with a lot to offer. The near bezel-free screen is superb in its 4K iteration, as sent to me for review, and the speakers do it proud. Configuration options extend to a Xeon W processor, Nvidia RTX A3000 graphics and 8TB of storage, the keyboard is exceptional and the build is very solid. There are a few downsides, however. The 720p webcam is average, battery life is lacklustre, and those seeking more muscular configurations will need to dig deep into their pockets. Working with the 4K screen I would struggle to get a full day's work out of a full battery charge. Even the base model in the UK costs £2,352.64 (inc. VAT) and its Core i5 processor, integrated graphics, non-touch FHD+ screen, 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage are far below what most workstation users will require.

Now that we’ve seen what the Precision 17 5770 is all about, it’s time to summarize all the information and try to help you make a purchase decision. Before we start, you have to know that this laptop is fairly expensive. It has all of the vPro goodies from Intel, as well as the optional certifications, should you pick a model that comes with a dedicated GPU. In our experience, the RTX A2000 happened to work just fine, although it was 3W shy of maintaining its 65W power budget. This machine comes with one of the best sounding speakers in the Windows world, which is courtesy of its XPS legacy. The input devices are also very good, while the fingerprint reader and the IR face recognition scanner do help with security. And while having four Thunderbolt 4 connectors is excellent, and utilizing a full-sized SD card reader is useful for photographers, we really miss the dedicated USB Type-A ports and HDMI connectors. Don’t be scared, though, as the company provides a USB Type-C to USB Type-A and HDMI dongle inside the box.

With its easy-to-carry frame, big screen and strong performance it's probably the closest thing I've yet seen to an OLED-equipped Dell XPS 17, and it will be for the foreseeable future—or at least, until Dell decides to sell an XPS 17 OLED. NVIDIA Quadro P2000:
Scheda grafica per workstation di fascia media basata sul chip GP107 da 14 nm (simile alla consumer GTX 1050 Ti) dell'architettura Pascal. Le GPU Quadro offrono driver certificati, ottimizzati per la stabilità e le prestazioni nelle applicazioni professionali (CAD, DCC, medicali, di prospezione e di visualizzazione).
Queste schede grafiche per portatili non sono adatte al gaming. Anche se dovessero funzionare, ci sarebbero diversi errori grafici e un frame rate molto basso. Questi chips non sono affatto per i gamers! Applicazioni internet e da ufficio, invece non sono problematiche per queste GPUs.

Queste schede grafiche dovrebbero essere in grado di far funzionare tutti i giochi attuali con un framerates fluido ma rinunciando al livello di dettaglio massimo. Specialmente i giochi impegnativi come Crysis, Age of Conan, o Mass Effect sono utilizzabili soltanto con impostazioni grafiche ridotte. I giochi meno pesanti (e più datati), come Fifa 08, Command & Conquer 3, o Battlefield 2142 possono essere giocati con livello di dettagli più alto.
NVIDIA Quadro RTX 3000 Max-Q:
Scheda grafica professionale di fascia alta per laptop basata sul consumatore GeForce RTX 2070 (chip TU106) di 2.304 shader e 8 GB GDDR6 VRAM. Rispetto alla normale variante mobile, le varianti Max-Q sono cronometrate più basse e funzionano in modo più efficiente. Attualmente conosciamo tre varianti con diverse velocità di clock e consumi energetici (60, 65 e 70 W).
NVIDIA Quadro T2000 (Laptop):
Scheda grafica dedicata di fascia media per computer portatili professionali basata sulla GTX 1650 Ti desktop e quindi sull'architettura Turing senza raytracing e Tensor cores.
NVIDIA RTX A2000 Laptop GPU:
Scheda grafica professionale di fascia media per laptop basata sul chip Ampere GA107 con 2.560 core CUDA. Simile alla GeForce GTX 3050 Ti consumer con driver certificati. Disponibile in diverse varianti di prestazioni che vanno da 35 a 95 W TGP (consumo massimo).
NVIDIA RTX A3000 Laptop GPU:
Scheda grafica professionale di fascia media per laptop basata sul chip Ampere GA104. Simile alla GeForce GTX 3060 consumer con driver certificati. Disponibile in diverse varianti di prestazioni che vanno da 60 a 130 W TGP (consumo massimo).
NVIDIA RTX A1000 Laptop GPU:
Scheda grafica professionale di fascia media per laptop basata sul chip Ampere GA107 con 2.048 core CUDA. Simile alla GeForce GTX 3050 consumer con driver certificati. Disponibile in diverse varianti di prestazioni che vanno da 35 a 95 W TGP (consumo energetico massimo).
Queste schede grafiche sono paragonabili alle entusiasmanti schede grafiche desktop, come la 9800M GT. Le schede hanno un core simile alle relative schede desktop, ma hanno un clock inferiore e spesso hanno processori con meno ombre. I giochi moderni come Age of Conan, Race Driver Grid, Call of Duty 4, Mass Effect, o Gothic 3 dovrebbero scorrere in modo fluido con dettagli elevati (Crysis dovrebbe funzionare con dettagli medio alti).
NVIDIA NVIDIA RTX 5000 Ada Generation Laptop GPU:
Scheda grafica professionale di fascia alta per laptop basata sull'architettura Ada Lovelace. Utilizza lo stesso chip AD103 della GPU del portatile RTX 4090 con 9.728 core CUDA e 16 GB GDDR6 VRAM con un bus di memoria a 256 bit. Il TDP può variare da 80 a 175 Watt.

Processore basato sull'architettura Coffee Lake per computer portatili grandi e pesanti. Integra sei cores del processore con clock a 2.9 - 4.8 GHz (4.3 GHz con 6 cores) che supportano l'HyperThreading. Prodotto in un processo migliorato di 14nm (14nm++). Offre un moltiplicatore sbloccato che permette l'overclocking della CPU.
Intel Comet Lake:
W-10885M: Processore basato sull'architettura di Coffee Lake per computer portatili grandi e pesanti. Integra otto core di processore con clock a 2,4 - 5,3 GHz che supportano HyperThreading. Prodotto in un processore migliorato a 14nm (14nm++). L'Intel Xeon W-10885M supporta le funzionalità di gestione vPro, TXT e SIPP ed è la versione professionale dell'Intel Core i9-10885H.
W-10855M: Su architettura Comet Lake (4a generazione di Skylake) basato su processore per computer portatili grandi e pesanti. Integra sei core di processore con clock a 2,8 - 4,7 GHz (molto probabilmente 4,2 GHz con 6 core) che supportano HyperThreading. Prodotto in un processore migliorato a 14nm (14nm++). L'Intel Xeon W-10855M supporta le funzionalità di gestione vPro, TXT e SIPP ed è la versione professionale del Core i7-10850H con velocità di clock leggermente superiori.
Intel Tiger Lake:
i7-11850H:
SoC octa-core di fascia alta basato su Tiger Lake (serie H45) per portatili da gioco e workstation. Gli otto core della CPU hanno un clock di 2.4 - 4.6 GHz. La GPU UHD Graphics integrata offre 48 core fino a 1,45 GHz. Il chip è prodotto nel processo SuperFin (migliorato a 10nm). Supporta funzioni di gestione come Intel vPro, SIPP e TXT.
i9-11950H:
SoC octa-core di fascia alta basato su Tiger Lake (serie H45) per portatili da gioco e workstation. Gli otto core della CPU hanno un clock di 2.6 - 5 GHz. La GPU UHD Graphics integrata offre 32 core. La CPU è prodotta nel processo 10nm SuperFin (migliorato 10nm). Supporta funzioni di gestione professionale come Intel vPro, SIPP o TXT.

Intel Raptor Lake-H:

Rispetto all'i9-13900HK, non è supportato l'overclocking facile, ma è invece supportato il set completo di funzioni di gestione vPro.
