Recensione dell'Intel NUC 12 Pro Kit - Wall Street Canyon: Mini PC avanzato con Intel Core i7-1260P per un'elevata versatilità

Veloce e a prova di futuro! I componenti mobili Alder Lake di Intel di 12a generazione sono arrivati alla serie NUC. Il design ibrido composto da core P ed E è un successo e fornisce buone prestazioni. In questa recensione esploreremo le caratteristiche incluse e le prestazioni del mini PC.

Intel ha aggiornato la sua serie di mini PC compatti NUC con i nuovi SoC Alder Lake-P. Il nome "Wall Street Canyon" indica l'ultima serie di modelli basati sui moderni SoC. Esistono due configurazioni di base, che si differenziano per le dimensioni. Il modello di fascia leggermente più alta porta il nome "Tall", che indica la possibilità di aggiungere un'unità da 2,5 pollici. Il nostro dispositivo di prova "Slim", invece, non offre questa opzione. In termini di prezzo, circa 100 dollari separano le due varianti. Entrambi i dispositivi sono disponibili solo come barebone. Pertanto, gli utenti dovranno installare da soli la RAM e lo storage.

Per i nostri test, abbiamo installato due moduli DDR4-3200 da 8 GB e un'unità SSD da 512 GB. Il sistema operativo è l'ultima versione di Windows 11 Professional disponibile al momento della recensione.

Caso

Dal punto di vista visivo, Wall Street Canyon è chiaramente un NUC Intel. Il design esterno del dispositivo è molto sottile e non ci sono superfici lucide sul sistema. Anche se la parte inferiore del case è in metallo e funge da soluzione di raffreddamento per l'archiviazione, una parte considerevole del NUC è in plastica. Il dispositivo è dotato di un robusto telaio in metallo, che è diventato quasi uno standard per i NUC Intel compatti e che conferisce al PC la necessaria rigidità. Con un'altezza di soli 37 mm (~1,46 pollici), la nostra versione Slim è piuttosto piccola. Inoltre, il dispositivo non occupa molto spazio sulla scrivania grazie al suo ingombro ridotto di 11,7 x 11,2 cm (~4,61 x 4,41 pollici). In alternativa, può essere fissato a un monitor con il supporto VESA incluso.

Connettività

Il kit Intel NUC 12 Pro offre tutte le opzioni più comuni in termini di selezione delle porte. Sono presenti quattro porte USB di tipo-A e due porte USB di tipo-C. Le porte di tipo C supportano la velocità USB4. Anche le due interfacce Thunderbolt aumentano notevolmente la flessibilità del sistema. L'ampia gamma di accessori disponibili è quasi infinita. Infine, sono presenti due porte HDMI e una porta Ethernet 2,5G.

Comunicazione

Sul NUC 12 Pro Kit, per la rete wireless viene utilizzato il modulo Wi-Fi 6E AX211 di Intel. Nei nostri test si è comportato bene. Tuttavia, non raggiunge le velocità di trasferimento che speravamo per l'invio di dati. Il Morefine S600-Apex ottiene risultati significativamente migliori con lo stesso modulo. Per questo test abbiamo utilizzato il nostro router di riferimento Asus ROG Rapture GT-AXE11000.

Oltre al dispositivo stesso, la confezione include l'adattatore CA da 120 watt e una piastra per il montaggio VESA.

Manutenzione

Come tutti i NUC Intel compatti, il kit NUC 12 Pro consente una manutenzione rapida e semplice attraverso la parte inferiore del dispositivo. Il coperchio inferiore è fissato con quattro piccole viti e funge da radiatore per le unità SSD. Una volta all'interno, l'accesso agli slot per RAM e SSD è molto semplice.

Prestazioni - Core i7 con 12 core

I PC compatti stanno diventando sempre più potenti, come gli utenti che lavorano con il kit Intel NUC 12 Pro si renderanno subito conto. Il cuore del sistema è costituito da una CPU a 12 core con 16 thread, che rende il sistema compatto una scelta eccellente per le attività più impegnative.

Condizioni di test

Abbiamo eseguito tutti i benchmark utilizzando il profilo di alimentazione bilanciato. Non abbiamo modificato le impostazioni delle prestazioni della CPU e abbiamo lasciato tutto su Auto nelle impostazioni del BIOS.

Processore

Con ilIntel Core i7-1260Pil kit Intel NUC 12 Pro include un SoC molto recente. Grazie ai 12 core fisici e ai 16 thread totali, l'Intel Core i7-1260p è una scelta solida anche per gli utenti più esigenti. Ha un TDP a raffica (PL2) di 64 watt e un TDP continuo (PL1) di 40 watt. Rispetto ai suoi concorrenti, l'Intel NUC 12 Pro Kit si comporta molto bene. Tra i suoi concorrenti compatti, solo il Morefine S600-Apex è in grado di ottenere un punteggio complessivo leggermente migliore. Un deficit del 14% rispetto a un Intel Core i5-12600K non è comunque particolarmente elevato. Ciò illustra ulteriormente le prestazioni di questo SoC mobile.

Purtroppo, l'Intel NUC 12 Pro Kit non è in grado di trasformare i suoi buoni punteggi nei benchmark della CPU in buoni punteggi nei benchmark sintetici. Senza considerare l'Intel Core i5-12600K, si piazza solo al terzo posto in PCMark 10. Al contrario, Crossmark sembra ancora una volta favorire il nostro dispositivo di prova e ripristina la vecchia gerarchia delle prestazioni. Il nostro esemplare di prova dell'Intel NUC 12 Pro Kit supporta fino a due unità SSD M.2. Tuttavia, gli utenti dovranno prestare attenzione al fattore di forma. Mentre lo slot NVMe-M.2 primario supporta solo SSD da 80 mm, lo slot M.2 secondario accetta solo SSD più corti da 42 mm.

Abbiamo utilizzato un SSD Transcend e una RAM dal nostro stock di hardware. Le prestazioni dell'SSD sono solide. Tuttavia, altri dispositivi nel nostro confronto sono dotati di SSD più veloci. L'importanza di questi risultati non deve essere sopravvalutata, poiché gli utenti potranno installare un'unità SSD di loro scelta nel barebone Intel NUC 12 Pro Kit.

Prestazioni della GPU

Un Intel Iris Xe Graphics G7 con 96 EU come soluzione grafica integrata. Dal punto di vista delle prestazioni, è adatta solo per il rendering 2D. Le prestazioni 3D sono notevolmente inferiori rispetto a quelle di una GPU dedicata. Tuttavia, è possibile collegare una GPU esterna tramite Thunderbolt. Abbiamo provato a farlo utilizzando il nostro Razer Core X e una GPU Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 Ti e abbiamo documentato i risultati, che sono riportati nei grafici seguenti. In poche parole, le prestazioni del kit Inte NUC 12 Pro aumentano in modo sostanziale in questo scenario, dove superano persino quelle del modello Ace Magician TK11-A0 Ace Magician TK11-A0.

Prestazioni di gioco

L'iGPU non è adatta per i giochi. Nel migliore dei casi, alcuni titoli sono giocabili a basse risoluzioni e con impostazioni grafiche ridotte. In ogni caso, l'esperienza di gioco non è ancora ottimale. Se state cercando un dispositivo per i giochi, un modello con una GPU dedicata sarà più adatto. I modelli più recentiHX90G e NUCXi7 di Minisforum possono essere delle alternative adeguate. In alternativa, è possibile utilizzare un dock Thunderbolt per eGPU. Abbiamo utilizzato il Razer Core X in combinazione con la GPU Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 Ti per testare questa configurazione. Sebbene questa configurazione sia in grado di eseguire molti giochi ad alte risoluzioni, le prestazioni sono ancora significativamente peggiori rispetto a un PC desktop tradizionale. Temperature

In condizioni di inattività e durante lo svolgimento di attività non impegnative, le temperature superficiali del kit Intel NUC 12 Pro rimangono relativamente fresche. Il calore riesce a fuoriuscire rapidamente dal case attraverso la parte posteriore.

Quando si stressa il sistema con Prime95, il processore Intel Core i7-1260P raggiunge una temperatura di picco di 93 °C (199,4 °F) e una frequenza di clock di 2,6 GHz sui core P. Nel frattempo, i core E mantengono un rispettabile valore di 2,3 GHz. Le temperature non sono preoccupanti e non c'è throttling termico durante lo stress della CPU. La CPU raggiunge inizialmente il limite PL2 del TDP e successivamente scende al limite PL1 di 40 watt. Questo valore può essere mantenuto per tutta la durata dello stress test.

Il kit Intel NUC 12 Pro non può essere definito estremamente efficiente dal punto di vista energetico. Ciò è dovuto al consumo energetico piuttosto elevato durante il periodo di inattività. In questo scenario, l'adattatore CA da 120 watt deve fornire almeno 12 watt. Sotto carico, questo valore aumenta a una media di 64 watt con picchi temporanei a quasi 99 watt quando il Turbo è attivo. Il kit Intel NUC 12 Pro è più che in grado di essere un eccellente PC da ufficio. È basato sul processore Intel Core i7-1260P, un veloce SoC con 12 core e 16 thread in grado di eseguire molte applicazioni contemporaneamente. Il vantaggio principale del sistema è il suo fattore di forma compatto combinato con le interfacce più recenti e più grandi, che non lasciano quasi nulla a desiderare. La Thunderbolt 4, disponibile in due versioni, è di gran lunga l'aggiunta più interessante.

Il prezzo di circa 700 dollari è una mezza verità quando si tratta di prendere una decisione d'acquisto, dato che il sistema barebone non include né la RAM, né un SSD, né una licenza di Windows. Detto questo, le offerte di altri produttori di mini PC sono di natura simile. La nostra configurazione di prova, modestamente equipaggiata, include 16 GB di RAM e un'unità SSD da 512 GB e si comporta molto bene. Soggettivamente, il sistema non è mai sembrato lento durante il nostro periodo di test. Grazie alle buone latenze DPC, il dispositivo è adatto a essere un client di streaming per il salotto. È inoltre possibile collegare una GPU dock esterna nel caso in cui siano necessarie maggiori prestazioni 3D. Durante la recensione del sistema, abbiamo esplorato questa opzione con l'aiuto di una scheda Nvidia RTX 30 Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 Ti.

Innanzitutto, l'Intel NUC 12 Pro Kit è un ottimo PC da ufficio. Tuttavia, con gli accessori appropriati, il piccolo sistema diventa capace di molto di più.

Visivamente, l'Intel NUC 12 Pro Kit è in linea con gli altri modelli della serie NUC di Intel. La qualità costruttiva è buona, anche se l'esterno rivestito in plastica può sembrare un po' economico a prima vista. Nel complesso, l'Intel NUC 12 Pro Kit non fa passi falsi tali da impedirci di raccomandare il sistema. Ci sono molti concorrenti nel settore dei mini PC. Detto questo, non molti di essi dispongono del supporto Thunderbolt. L'Ace Magician TK11-A0 è una delle eccezioni. Tuttavia, non è in grado di eguagliare le prestazioni della CPU dell'Intel NUC 12 Pro Kit.
