Nonostante sia un mini-PC di piccole dimensioni, il Geekom AS 5 riesce comunque ad offrire unAMD Ryzen 9 5900HXe un SoC veloce che potrebbe essere già troppo per l'uso quotidiano. Ma, come dice il proverbio, avere è meglio che avere. Di conseguenza, con il Geekom AS 5 si può sperare in un futuro fiducioso, a patto che ci si dedichi esclusivamente al lavoro d'ufficio.

I conoscitori di mini-PC di lunga data daranno un'occhiata al Geekom AS 5 e penseranno di averlo già visto da qualche parte. E questo non senza una buona ragione. Geekom e Asus hanno stretto una collaborazione che significa che il Geekom AS 5 e l'Asus ExpertCenter PN52 sono costruiti allo stesso modo. A differenza di Asus, il cui PN52 è dotato di SoC con specifiche inferiori, l'unica opzione di Geekom è basata su Ryzen 9 5900HX di AMD. Attualmente, il Geekom AS 5 viene venduto a 609 dollari. Un prezzo equo, visto che Asus chiede ben 900 dollari per un mini-PC identico con soli 16 GB di RAM e lo stesso SSD.

Il Geekom AS 5 in dettaglio

Caso

Come abbiamo già detto, il Geekom AS 5 e l'Asus ExpertCenter PN52 condividono la stessa piattaforma. Questo significa che abbiamo a che fare con un design diverso da quello delGeekom Mini IT12. Le dimensioni dell'AS 5 sono cresciute un po' rispetto all'altro dispositivo interno, anche se l'ingombro del dispositivo continua a essere ridotto. Per quanto riguarda il peso, con 724 grammi, il nostro esemplare in prova si piazza a metà classifica. I materiali sono principalmente plastica e alluminio. Ancora una volta, ci ricordano il familiare design NUC visto nel Geekom Mini IT12. In sostanza, il concetto è buono ed eccezionalmente robusto. Da un punto di vista soggettivo, con il loro telaio in alluminio, i dispositivi Morefine sembrano avere una sensazione più premium. Non ci si può lamentare della qualità costruttiva. Tutto si incastra perfettamente e non siamo riusciti a trovare alcuna fessura nel nostro modello in prova.

Come molti altri mini-PC, il Geekom AS 5 può essere collegato a un monitor grazie al supporto VESA incluso.

Caratteristiche

Nonostante le dimensioni, il piccolo Geekom AS 5 offre molte opzioni di interfaccia. Tutte le porte si trovano sulla parte anteriore e posteriore del dispositivo. Su entrambi i lati del mini-PC sono presenti prese d'aria di dimensioni generose, progettate per favorire il raffreddamento. Con i suoi sette connettori USB, il nostro modello di recensione di mini-PC dispone di un numero di porte tra i più alti mai visti in una macchina di questo tipo. Inoltre, due di esse sono dotate di un connettore di tipo C. Tuttavia, l'AS 5 non dispone del supporto Thunderbolt. Tuttavia, chi desidera collegare simultaneamente molti monitor può prendere tranquillamente il Geekom AS 5, dato che il nostro modello di prova può gestire facilmente fino a quattro display.

Comunicazione

Geekom ha dotato il suo AS 5 di un moderno modulo Wi-Fi 6E di MediaTek. La scheda M.2 intercambiabile è in grado di gestire anche la velocissima banda a 6 GHz, dove sono possibili velocità di trasferimento dati nettamente superiori rispetto a una connessione con la normale banda di frequenza a 5 GHz. In quest'area, il nostro dispositivo in prova non solo è in testa al gruppo dei concorrenti, ma li lascia anche in piedi. Le cose non sono altrettanto rosee nei test con una connessione a 5 GHz e il nostro Geekom AS 5 scivola in una posizione bassa, a metà classifica, dietro a gran parte della concorrenza. Con l'eccezione dellaMinisforum Neptune Series NAD9la concorrenza è abbastanza unita. Come sempre, per questo test abbiamo utilizzato il nostro router di prova, l'Asus ROG Rapture GT-AXE11000. In alternativa, è possibile collegare l'AS 5 a una rete tramite un connettore Ethernet. Con una velocità massima di 2,5 Gbit/s, è ancora più veloce della connessione wireless a 6 GHz.

Il contenuto della confezione del Geekom AS 5 comprende l'alimentatore da 120 watt, la piastra di montaggio per l'installazione del dispositivo su un monitor (supporto VESA), un cavo HDMI, una guida rapida e alcune viti.

Manutenzione

Il Geekom AS 5 può essere aperto attraverso la base. Le quattro viti fanno parte del supporto e mantengono la base, insieme ad alcune porte di comunicazione sulla parte superiore dello chassis. La rimozione del coperchio inferiore non è difficile, anche se il pad termico dell'SSD oppone una certa resistenza. In pratica, accedere ai componenti integrati, come la RAM e l'SSD, è un gioco da ragazzi. Tuttavia, chi desidera ispezionare l'unità di raffreddamento dovrà smontare un po' di più il dispositivo. Tuttavia, è necessario procedere con cautela per evitare di danneggiare i delicati cavi dell'antenna Wi-Fi.

Prestazioni - Un AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX al centro della questione

Con il AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX-basato su Geekom AS 5, si ottiene una grande potenza nel più piccolo degli ingombri. Con 32 GB di RAM e un'unità SSD da 1 TB, anche il resto delle specifiche è di tutto rispetto. Tutto ciò rende il Geekom AS 5 perfettamente equipaggiato per l'uso quotidiano in ufficio e anche le attività più impegnative, come il fotoritocco e il semplice editing video, non rappresentano un ostacolo per questo servo del computer.

Condizioni di prova

Tutti i test sulle prestazioni sono stati eseguiti utilizzando la modalità Highest Performance. Le prestazioni del SoC non sono state modificate nel BIOS e sono state lasciate in base alle impostazioni di fabbrica del produttore.

Processore

Con ilAMD Ryzen 9 5900HXil Geekom AS 5 offre un buon SoC con 8 core e 16 thread che, tuttavia, non fa più parte dei chip più aggiornati in quanto AMD ha già pronto il suo successore, il modelloRyzen 9 6900HX- un chip che esamineremo in uno dei nostri prossimi test.

Tuttavia, nei confronti attuali, il nostro dispositivo in esame si è comportato relativamente bene ed è alle calcagna della concorrenza dotata di SoC più recenti. Geekom non ha controllato il consumo energetico dell'AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX, il che significa che il SoC opera a 54 watt in modalità turbo e a 35 watt sotto carico continuo, secondo le dichiarazioni del produttore. Uno dei punti di forza del SoC utilizzato in questo caso sono le prestazioni multi-thread, anche se rispetto alla concorrenza le prestazioni single-core calano un po'. Intel sta giocando in un altro campionato con i suoi attuali processori Raptor Lake P, come si è visto, ad esempio, con il Intel NUC 13 Pro. Anche il Morefine M600, già equipaggiato con un AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX, non può farci nulla.

Tuttavia, il Geekom AS 5 ha ottenuto punteggi sorprendenti nei benchmark AIDA64, con il nostro dispositivo in prova che ha addirittura primeggiato e spinto il Morefine M600 al secondo posto. In sostanza, vediamo che i dispositivi basati su AMD hanno dei chiari vantaggi. Intel appare leggermente svantaggiata in questo senso, con l'Intel NUC 13 Pro Recensione del kit Intel NUC 13 Pro, noto come Arena Canyon: Moderno mini-PC con Intel Core i7-1360P per applicazioni impegnative che deve fare i conti con un ritardo del 19% rispetto al suo cugino AMD.

Prestazioni del sistema

I benchmark sintetici delle prestazioni del sistema sono solidi. In PCMark 10, il nostro Geekom AS 5 ha ottenuto un risultato eccellente, collocandosi al secondo posto. Tuttavia, la tendenza vista in Crossmark e nei benchmark della RAM non è continuata. In quest'area, il nostro modello in prova è addirittura scivolato all'ultimo posto, poiché i sistemi basati su Intel sono leggermente più adatti al test Crossmark. Il Geekom AS 5 fatica a tenere il passo con i sistemi DDR5 quando si tratta di benchmark sulla RAM, poiché dispone solo di DDR4. Latenze DPC

Inizialmente, l'interazione dei componenti integrati è stata buona e non è stata responsabile di alcuna latenza elevata nella riproduzione del nostro video di prova 4K. Geekom ha equipaggiato l'AS 5 con un'unità SSD NVMe da 1024 GB di Kingston. Il modello installato utilizza l'interfaccia NVMe e dovrebbe garantire velocità di trasferimento corrispondenti. In termini di velocità di lettura, abbiamo osservato prestazioni solide, mentre le velocità di scrittura sono state abissali. Per escludere che si tratti di un problema del Geekom AS 5, abbiamo testato il Kingston NV2 anche in un altro mini-PC. Tuttavia, le prestazioni non sono state significativamente migliori. Per fare un confronto, abbiamo equipaggiato il Geekom AS 5 con il nostro Kingston KC3000. Il risultato è stato una velocità di trasferimento notevolmente migliore e ha chiarito che il problema non risiede nel nostro dispositivo di prova, ma nel Kingston NV2.

Nel test, i problemi del nostro modello in prova hanno fatto sì che si accontentasse dell'ultimo posto. Inoltre, si sono verificati continui cali di prestazioni nello stress test. Sebbene le superfici metalliche interne siano utilizzate per il raffreddamento, la perdita di prestazioni associata ai continui accessi in lettura non può essere evitata.

Nel frattempo, il Geekom AS 5 può ospitare fino a tre unità di archiviazione. Due di queste utilizzano l'interfaccia M.2 ed è possibile inserire un'ulteriore unità in formato da 2,5 pollici.

Con AMD Radeon RX Vega 8, il SoC è dotato di una iGPU che ci accompagna da molti anni. Sfortunatamente, è possibile osservarlo anche nel frattempo perché, nei benchmark, l'ormai vecchia iGPU è notevolmente inferiore al suo successore. Tuttavia, può ancora competere bene con una Intel Iris Xe Graphics G7. Ciò significa che il Geekom AS 5 è in grado di assicurarsi un piazzamento a metà classifica grazie ai numerosi sistemi Intel presenti nel nostro confronto.

Purtroppo, il Geekom AS 5 non dispone di un'opzione Thunderbolt, il che significa che il dispositivo non può essere collegato a una GPU esterna per accelerare le prestazioni 3D.

Temperatura

Quando è inattivo, il case del Geekom AS 5 si riscalda poco. Ciò significa che non c'è un vero e proprio accumulo di calore, poiché l'aria calda prende la strada più breve possibile e viene diretta verso la parte posteriore del dispositivo prima di essere espulsa.

Nello stress test Prime95, l'AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX

ha raggiunto solo 77,8 °C, il che significa che il SoC ha ancora molto spazio per respirare prima di raggiungere i suoi limiti termici. Quando abbiamo messo sotto carico contemporaneamente la CPU e l'iGPU, abbiamo visto temperature solo marginalmente basse perché entrambi i componenti devono condividere il TDP combinato di 54 watt.

Consumo di energia

Per quanto riguarda i requisiti energetici, il Geekom AS 5 ha ottenuto ottimi risultati. Nell'uso inattivo, abbiamo misurato circa 8,6-9,6 watt, anche se il consumo medio sotto carico si è assestato intorno ai 60 watt. Il consumo massimo misurato è stato di 84 watt, il che significa che l'alimentatore da 120 watt non ha problemi e ha anche molte riserve per due dispositivi di archiviazione di massa aggiuntivi.

Il Geekom AS 5 è senza dubbio un piccolo, se non il più piccolo, mini-PC molto potente e ha molto da offrire. La base è costituita dal processoreAMD Ryzen 9 5900HX è una buona scelta ed è sufficiente per l'uso quotidiano in ufficio. Si può pretendere ancora di più da questo mini-PC perché, con 32 GB di RAM e un SSD da 1 TB, sono stati tagliati pochi angoli.

Considerando le dimensioni compatte del dispositivo, la selezione di porte è molto generosa. Il Geekom AS 5 è dotato di molte interfacce USB. Anche le configurazioni multi-monitor non sono un problema, poiché è possibile collegare fino a quattro display. In termini di prestazioni Wi-Fi, in questo test il dispositivo è superiore alla concorrenza solo per quanto riguarda le bande a 6 GHz. Se si sceglie di utilizzare le frequenze Wi-Fi a 5 GHz, ci si aspetta un testa a testa con la concorrenza. Fino a questo punto, il Geekom AS 5 non sbaglia un colpo. Non consideriamo la collaborazione con Asus in modo critico, ma piuttosto come un vantaggio.
