L'Aorus X5 rappresenta tutto ciò che ci aspettiamo da Aorus. Si tratta di un notebook per utenti non soddisfatti da prestazioni e funzionalità di notebook gaming ultraleggeri come Asus G501 o MSI GS60, ma che desiderano la potenza e l'espandibilità di modelli più corposi basati su Clevo (Eurocom P5 Pro) e come la serie Alienware, ma senza il peso. In alcuni casi, l'X5 offre più della concorrenza, con il suo schermo 3K G-SYNC, il grande numero di uscite video e l'accessibilità dei componenti interni.

Tutti i notebook Aorus condividono le stesse problematiche, tra cui la rumorosità delle ventole durante il gaming, la scarsa autonomia, le temperature più elevate e un telaio meno convincente rispetto a grandi nomi come MSI GT72, Asus G751 o Alienware 17. La GTX 965M SLI si comporta molto bene e offre prestazioni a livello della GTX 980M, ma la CPU Broadwell non è in grado di sostenere il Turbo Boost massimo per più di un paio di minuti. Inoltre, il notebooi non include slot PCIe 4x, solo uno dei quali potrebbe superare nelle prestazioni l'unità SSD M.2 Lite-On.

Probabilmente il miglior biglietto da visita per l'X5 è la sua combinazione di display 3K, SLI e G-SYNC. La tecnologia Nvidia di adaptive refresh permette a SLI di funzionare molto meglio in caso di frame rate bassi o non costanti, entrambi comportamenti comuni con sistemi a doppia GPU con risoluzioni elevate. G-SYNC dà il suo meglio con FPS tra 30 e 60, solitamente il range della maggior parte dei giochi con dettagli elevati e risoluzione 3K. Questo è un ottimo uso della tecnologia per mitigare le problematiche di SLI.

Se l'acquirente desidera un notebook SLI o prestazioni pari alla classe GTX 980 da un notebook da 15 pollici il più sottile possibile, questo notebook può benissimo essere l'Aorus X5.
