Piccolo e potente! La Serie Mercury è la linea di mini-PC di Minisforum che sono piccoli ma offrono prestazioni convincenti. L'ultimo modello, noto come EM780, è dotato di un AMD Ryzen 7 7840U ed è un solido performer nonostante il suo design compatto. Il mini-PC brilla con i suoi 32 GB di RAM e le moderne interfacce USB4 e, pertanto, è quasi senza rivali. Minisforum Serie Mercury EM780 (Fonte: Minisforum)

Minisforum ha dato alla Serie Mercury EM780 un nuovo SoC come aggiornamento rispetto alla EM680. Il AMD Ryzen 7 7840U vanta analogamente otto core nativi, ma è dotato di una iGPU molto più recente. Il produttore non ha lesinato nemmeno sulla memoria, inserendo 32 GB di RAM LPDDR5 nel dispositivo, sebbene non sia aggiornabile. A parte la capacità di archiviazione, le specifiche di base sono sempre le stesse. La configurazione con un SSD da 512 GB è attualmente disponibile a 699 euro (619 dollari) sul negozio online di Minisforum. Per 30 euro in più (729 euro, o 639 dollari), può anche ottenere la Serie Mercury EM780 con 1 TB di spazio di archiviazione, che è il modello su cui ci concentriamo qui.

Custodia - Molta plastica, ma estremamente compatta

Il Minisforum Serie Mercury EM780 utilizza lo stesso telaio dell'EM680, quindi anche il nuovo modello è estremamente compatto. Con un ingombro di soli 80 x 80 mm (3,15 x 3,15 pollici), il Minisforum EM780 occupa pochissimo spazio. Inoltre, il dispositivo è abbastanza sottile, con uno spessore di soli 43 mm (1,69 pollici). In termini di materiali, Minisforum ha scelto di dare al dispositivo una struttura prevalentemente in plastica. La plastica è notevolmente robusta grazie al design compatto. Specifiche

Nonostante sia uno dei mini-PC più piccoli in questo momento, il Minisforum Mercury Series EM780 ha una selezione di I/O impressionante. Sebbene si debbano sopportare alcune limitazioni, tutto ciò che è importante è essenzialmente presente. Ci sono un totale di cinque porte USB, due delle quali offrono la velocità USB4. Oltre alle due porte Type-C, che sono in grado di emettere video, è possibile collegare un altro display tramite HDMI. Connettività

All'interno della Serie Mercury EM780, un modulo Intel Killer Wi-Fi 6E AX1675w assicura una connessione wireless stabile e veloce. Nel nostro test realistico, il modulo Wi-Fi ha fornito prestazioni costantemente buone. Tuttavia, non è stato in grado di raggiungere il livello di prestazioni mostrato dal MediaTek RZ616 nell'EM680 quando è connesso a una rete a 6 GHz. Manutenzione

La quantità di manutenzione che l'utente può fare sul Minisforum Mercury Series EM780 è limitata al minimo. Solo il coperchio inferiore può essere rimosso con relativa facilità, se mai fosse necessario sostituire l'SSD sottostante. Non c'è comunque spazio per una seconda unità di archiviazione nel mini-PC. Non è consigliabile smontare ulteriormente il dispositivo, per non parlare dello smontaggio del radiatore della CPU. All'interno della confezione c'è anche una nota che indica l'utilizzo di metallo liquido per il trasferimento del calore.

Prestazioni - AMD Ryzen 7 7840U con 8 core e 16 threads

Tutte le varianti della Serie Mercury EM780 sono dotate di un processore AMD Ryzen 7 7840U. Come successore del Ryzen 7 6800Uil nuovo SoC è in grado di funzionare a velocità di clock leggermente più elevate e dispone delle più recenti Radeon 780M iGPU. Il mini-PC dovrebbe essere in grado di gestire bene i compiti più impegnativi, a giudicare da queste specifiche. Il SoC è affiancato da 32 GB di RAM LPDDR5 (6.400 MT/s) e da un SSD da 1 TB.

Con il AMD Ryzen 7 7840Uminisforum Mercury Series EM780 ha ricevuto un SoC efficiente con prestazioni adeguate. Tuttavia, una cosa che spicca è la prestazione single-core relativamente bassa. Ma il SoC Zen 4 è in grado di fornire risultati solidi nei test delle prestazioni multi-thread. Quasi tutti i dispositivi del nostro confronto sono testa a testa per quanto riguarda il punteggio medio delle prestazioni. Solo il Geekom A7 con un AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS è riuscito a prendere un vantaggio leggermente maggiore rispetto al resto del gruppo.

Anche se la Serie Mercury EM780 è eccezionalmente piccola e quindi ha un'unità di raffreddamento molto più piccola rispetto alla maggior parte degli altri mini-PC, il livello di prestazioni della CPU è comunque eccezionale. Latenza DPC

Quando è stato utilizzato per la navigazione web di base, il Minisforum Mercury Series EM780 non ha avuto alcun problema con l'aumento della latenza. L'unità di recensione ha gestito senza problemi anche la riproduzione del nostro video di prova a 4K, anche se abbiamo notato alcune cadute di fotogrammi. La latenza è aumentata solo quando è stato avviato Prime95. Riteniamo che l'EM780 sia comunque un eccellente client di streaming.

Memoria di massa

Grazie al suo design, la Serie Mercury EM780 è dotata di un SSD estremamente piccolo. L'unità di archiviazione, che misura appena 30 mm (1,18 pollici) di lunghezza, è prodotta da Kingston e offre velocità di trasferimento di servizio. Almeno lo storage non è installato in modo permanente e può essere sostituito. Sul fondo del dispositivo, Minisforum ha collocato una ventola e un dissipatore aggiuntivi per evitare il surriscaldamento dell'SSD. Questo sistema sembra dare i suoi frutti, perché la velocità di lettura è rimasta stabile durante lo stress test. Proprio come il suo predecessore, l'EM780 può ospitare solo un'unità di archiviazione.

Le eccellenti prestazioni della AMD Radeon 780M continuano nei giochi testati. L'iGPU ha prestazioni nettamente superiori a quelle della Radeon 680M. Il numero di giochi giocabili con un'umile iGPU è aumentato in modo massiccio. Tuttavia, dovrà accontentarsi di un livello di dettaglio inferiore. Il test di due eGPU con Minisforum Mercury Series EM780 esegue

Poiché Minisforum ha dotato la Serie Mercury EM780 di porte USB4, il computer palmare può essere utilizzato anche con una scheda grafica esterna. Abbiamo analizzato l'aumento di prestazioni ottenuto accoppiando il mini-PC con una scheda grafica esterna GPD G1 e poi con un Razer Core X e una scheda grafica Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 Ti. Mentre la AMD Radeon 780M offre già prestazioni adeguate, l'inserimento di una eGPU aumenterà notevolmente le prestazioni 3D. A volte è persino possibile giocare ai giochi moderni a 1440p. Detto questo, dovrà fare i conti con le limitazioni tecniche legate all'interfaccia USB4. Questo perché una scheda grafica esterna può comunicare con il mini-PC solo a una velocità massima di PCIe 3.0 x4. L'interfaccia OCuLink è un'alternativa all'USB4, ma attualmente è disponibile solo su una manciata di dispositivi. Il collegamento del GPD G1 tramite OCuLink offre un aumento delle prestazioni di circa il 10%. Uno dei pochi mini-PC con una porta OCuLink nativa è il Minisforum EliteMini UM780 XTX.

Temperatura

Non abbiamo riscontrato valori estremi per quanto riguarda le temperature del telaio. La parte inferiore è diventata leggermente più calda di quella superiore a causa dell'SSD e del dissipatore. Il processore stesso ha raggiunto una temperatura di 83,9°C (183,0°F) durante lo stress test. Minisforum ha fissato un limite termico per il processore, ma questo non è un problema, considerando che il SoC è in grado di funzionare continuamente a 28 watt (TDP).

Recensione Minisforum Mercury Series EM780: l'unità campione è stata gentilmente fornita da Minisforum

Il Minisforum Mercury Series EM780 è un PC estremamente piccolo che si comporta bene in quasi tutti gli aspetti. Il mini-PC è dotato di un moderno processore a otto core sotto forma di un AMD Ryzen 7 7840U. Allo stesso tempo, il SoC vanta una iGPU piuttosto potente, in grado di ottenere prestazioni eccellenti nonostante il basso consumo energetico. Il Minisforum EM780 racchiude un'enorme quantità di potenza in un ingombro di soli 80 x 80 mm (3,15 x 3,15 pollici). Anche i 32 GB di RAM DDR5 le saranno utili. Purtroppo, la memoria non è né espandibile né sostituibile, il che è uno degli svantaggi di questi PC compatti. D'altra parte, è possibile aggiornare la memoria di massa dell'EM780. L'unità di archiviazione ha una capacità relativamente generosa di 1 TB. Il dispositivo ha una vestibilità e una finitura impeccabili, anche se lo chassis è in gran parte realizzato in plastica. Il mini-PC è comunque piacevole al tatto e la scelta del materiale non influisce sulla solidità del dispositivo.

L'impressionante Minisforum Mercury Series EM780 offre prestazioni eccellenti in un pacchetto molto piccolo, senza sacrificare porte I/O all'avanguardia come USB4.

Ci piace molto il sistema di raffreddamento. È in grado di rimuovere efficacemente il calore dall'AMD Ryzen 7 7840U. Non c'è alcuna perdita di prestazioni anche a pieno carico. Lo stesso vale anche per l'SSD, che è stato dotato di un'unità di raffreddamento separata. Il livello di rumorosità è abbastanza buono nel complesso, il che significa che non sentirà alcun rumore fastidioso in sottofondo quando il computer è in funzione. Minisforum ha ovviato alla mancanza di una porta Ethernet includendo un adattatore da collegare tramite USB4. Il mini-PC EM780 costerà 729 euro (639 dollari). Non è assolutamente un affare, ma otterrà uno dei mini-PC più compatti in questa categoria di prestazioni.
