Red Magic 5G review: Big on gaming, small on everything else

The Red Magic 5G is a solid gaming phone, and the 144Hz screen makes it unique. There are lots of good features, like the hardware shoulder buttons, and if you don’t mind the mediocre camera, the uncertainty around future updates, and the inability to change the default launcher, then it is certainly worth considering. There are two models of the Red Magic 5G. One variant comes with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage and is available in Eclipse Black or Hot Rod Red. It costs $579/€579/£539. The other has 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage and costs $649/€649/£599. At under $600 for the 8GB/128GB model is well priced. However, competitively priced devices with flagship Snapdragon processors used to be a rarity, but not any more. Devices like the Redmi K30 Pro and Realme X50 Pro 5G are two good examples. Right now there isn’t a better processor, so the Snapdragon 865 is certainly a big plus. On top of that, you get active-cooling, at least 8GB of RAM, and now NFC (something that was missing in the Red Magic 3S).

The Nubia Redmagic 6R is a rarity among gaming phones, in that it’s been designed with at least some thought given to how you might want to use the phone when you’re not popping off headshots. It’s borderline pleasant to wield and carry around as a normal phone, with a compact body and a relatively sober design. Thankfully, though, it still comes up with the goods when it’s time to game, with a level of performance that well exceeds the phone’s price tag. Unfortunately, the phone ends up falling between two stools. Elements like a shiny selfie camera and a lack of stereo speakers will gall gamers, while non or casual gamers will find the phone’s terrible camera system and rubbish battery life to be instant red flags. It’s still a contender for a certain type of occasional gamer simply thanks to that combination of top-level performance and lower mid-range price, but the Nubia Redmagic 6R isn’t quite the consummate all-rounder we hoped it might be.

RedMagic 6S Pro costa 599 euro e cresce di 100 euro per la versione da 16/256GB, anche se al momento è sold-out ovunque tranne che su Amazon dove è in vendita a 750 euro. Il prezzo (di listino) è a fuoco, ma non è perfetto e spinge l'utente a qualche compromesso, soprattutto sul software. Non sempre è disponibile la traduzione in italiano, anzi capita spesso di notare parole in inglese e anche in cinese. Ed è un vero peccato, perché dimostra poco impegno dell'azienda nello sviluppo software, con conseguenze anche per l'esperienza utente. Devo segnalare però che, nel mio periodo di prova, nubia ha rilasciato un aggiornamento di sistema e questo mi fa ben sperare sull'attenzione del produttore. RedMagic 6S Pro è uno smartphone per i videogiocatori più intransigenti, ma potrebbe fare gola anche a chi sta cercando un dispositivo potente ma non troppo costoso. A mio parere, 599 euro sono un vero e proprio invito all'acquisto per l'utente che desidera un top-di-gamma con doti ben specifiche.

RedMagic 6S Pro è uno smartphone che migliora sotto vari punti di vista rispetto ai suoi predecessori, mantenendo il prezzo di partenza invariato, ovvero 599 euro per il modello da 12/128GB. Il sistema di raffreddamento attivo sfrutta materiali di livello aerospaziale ed è in grado di mantenere basse le temperature essenzialmente in tutti i contesti. Purtroppo, però, non è tutto perfetto: non è possibile espandere la memoria interna, il design della variante Cyborg non convince del tutto, peso e dimensioni non sono propriamente dei più contenuti, il comparto software non è dei più curati e il reparto fotografico garantisce risultati più vicini alla fascia medio/bassa del mercato che a quella alta. Nonostante questo, RedMagic 6S Pro è sicuramente uno smartphone interessante per alcune tipologie di utenti e dunque in grado di trovare un buon collocamento sul mercato.

Indubbiamente si tratta del più veloce telefono mai provato, super scattante e reattivo, ottimo per i giochi ma anche per un uso frenetico del cellulare. I difetti sono le dimensioni, molto "padelloso" e il comparto camere, decisamente sottotono. Dietro è super tamarro ma, passatemi il termine, figo. Sicuramente non è per tutti, anzi, per una nicchia. Comunque con una buona interfaccia, traduzioni un po' così ma stabile!

Choosing Red Magic 6S Pro we get higher refreshment of the touch panel and triggers, a safer fingerprint reader and a quieter fan... and that's about it. We can still talk about a slightly higher efficiency - but the predecessor also fared great in this area. Photo capabilities, connection quality, battery - are similar. However, we should remember that such smartphones are bought almost exclusively by game lovers. And this - I advise you to wait for the next Red Magic model, or buy the previous one. Due to the almost complete lack of translation, the menu for players will be useless! And this - in such a phone - almost a key element. You will say that the update can fix the problem. Yes, but looking at the manufacturer's approach to interface translations, I wouldn't count on it. So - this time I rather advise against the work of Nubia engineers.

Red Magic 6S Pro Review: An unmatched gaming experience

I have analyzed almost all the key features of the Red Magic 6S Pro, but I left the camera aspect of the phone completely out of the equation. This was intentional as I feel that photography is insignificant when it comes to a powerful gaming phone such as this. I will say that the triple camera setup with the main 64MP lens takes perfectly okay photos. It isn’t anything to write paragraphs about, but you won’t be beside yourself with anger either — a flaw that most gaming phones had in the past. Nothing really changes on this end. If you prioritize an impeccable camera, you need to exclude gaming phones from your consideration. At the end of the day, when reviewing a product, I always factor in the price that consumers have to pay. What you spend dictates your expectations and I believe that is completely justified. After all, people work hard to earn their bread. The base 12GB/128GB model of the Red Magic 6S Pro will cost $599. I have analyzed almost all the key features of the Red Magic 6S Pro, but I left the camera aspect of the phone completely out of the equation. This was intentional as I feel that photography is insignificant when it comes to a powerful gaming phone such as this. I will say that the triple camera setup with the main 64MP lens takes perfectly okay photos. It isn’t anything to write paragraphs about, but you won’t be beside yourself with anger either — a flaw that most gaming phones had in the past. Nothing really changes on this end. If you prioritize an impeccable camera, you need to exclude gaming phones from your consideration. At the end of the day, when reviewing a product, I always factor in the price that consumers have to pay. What you spend dictates your expectations and I believe that is completely justified. After all, people work hard to earn their bread. The base 12GB/128GB model of the Red Magic 6S Pro will cost $599. For that amount, you get an unmatched gaming experience in a cool structure made of glass and metal.

On the merits, I can attribute this to the use of a completely new Snapdragon 888+ processor and 16 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal memory. Also, this smartphone model is the fastest than any other smartphone running on the Android operating system. I also liked the performance of the screen, especially how it rendered colors and contrast levels. In addition, the 165Hz refresh rate will be useful not only in games, but also when using the user interface. On the other hand, constant use of 165 Hz often will drain the built-in battery very much. But on the downside, I can attribute this is not a particularly impressive camera, as for a flagship device. I especially did not like the work of the ultra wide and frontal module. Also, during games or other heavy processes, the device got quite hot, namely up to 53 degrees Celsius.

RedMagic 7 è un mostro prestazionale. Su questo c'è poco da dire. Non presenta alcuna incertezza nemmeno giocando con dettagli massimi a un titolo dal buon comparto tecnico e guardando in contemporanea una live su Twitch in Picture in Picture. D'altronde, il processore Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 sotto la scocca rappresenta una garanzia. RedMagic 7 è dotato di un buon display AMOLED con frequenza di aggiornamento di 165 Hz, nonché di un ottimo comparto audio stereo. L'autonomia non è male, anche se non propriamente al top del mercato, aiutata anche da una buona ricarica rapida a 65W. Non mancano i trigger dorsali e non sono male i materiali, con alluminio per il frame e vetro per la back cover. Il comparto connettività include di tutto, dal jack audio all'NFC, passando per 5G e Wi-Fi 6. Non sorprende il fatto che il comparto fotocamere sia solamente sufficiente, in quanto si sta pur sempre facendo riferimento a un dispositivo da gaming. Peccato, purtroppo, per il software. Nonostante qualche sforzo, ci sono ancora troppe imprecisioni. Tuttavia, la qualità intrinseca del prodotto a livello hardware è innegabile.

Il prezzo di questa versione 18/256 è di 799 euro, cifra per la quale lo considero una valida scelta per tutti quelli a cui interessano gaming e prestazioni e magari non amano fori nel display, tacche, goccie e varie (lui ha la camera nel bordo superiore, che è un po' più spesso). Poi, sempre dal 10 marzo, ci saranno anche le versioni 12/128GB Obsidian a 629 euro e 12/256GB Pulsar a 729 euro. A me è piaciuto, promosso e speriamo di provare presto altri smartphone dotati di Snapdragon 8 Gen 1!

On the subject of winning, that came relatively easy on the REDMAGIC 7 thanks to the additional triggers. I can't emphasize enough how helpful those trigger panels are, and their ability to help me reach top scores in FPS games can't be ignored. It nearly felt like cheating, to be honest, yet anyone with an add-on controller could do the same. It just so happens that added controller functions are built right into the REDMAGIC 7, which helps it make a case for being a great gaming device. It cannot be ignored that the REDMAGIC 7 is a niche device, yet nearly everyone has a phone these days, so that niche for outside-the-box handsets might actually be a fair bit of the market. Mobile gaming takes up a fair bit of time for lots of people, and things like add-on controllers and such can take that mobile gaming experience on a completely different tangent than with common handsets from manufacturers like Samsung and Apple. The REDMAGIC 7 goes over the top in providing a gaming-focused experience and is packed with stuff to give you an edge over players with other handsets.

The bottom line is, you can't expect such an affordable phone with flagship-level hardware to be a true all-rounder. Who even buys a gaming phone to take pictures or go swimming? Sure, there's no IP rating, and yes, you'll be stuck with wired charging with the RedMagic 7. But that's just not what this phone is made for. Any app you throw its way, the RedMagic 7 will destroy it (in the best sense). After using the RedMagic 7 for a while, its snappy performance and enthralling 165Hz display, I felt genuinely spoiled. Going back to my personal device felt lackluster. Let's not even talk about gaming. It's almost as if the RedMagic 7 anticipates your moves beforehand. The 720Hz touch response rate in the screen and the 500Hz response rate of the ultrasonic triggers together make a deadly combination. Full disclosure: I don't think I can ever play games on my own phone again. If you're looking for an affordable, gaming enthusiast's Android phone, the RedMagic 7 is possibly the best choice in the world at the time of writing.

The Red Magic 7 is a niche phone, there's no denying it. It also has its strong suits like excellent performance during sustained load, charges really fast, there are a handful of helpful gaming features, pressure-sensitive shoulder triggers, fast 165Hz display and pair of loud, good-sounding speakers. The semi-transparent Supernova back is by far one of the best designs we've seen. It has a rather authentic see-through hardware look in person. Sadly, almost all of these pros come with some sort of caveat. The Supernova back is a tad expensive, the software gaming features are nice, but the software is poorly translated, and some of the features are supported by only a couple of games, the display doesn't have an automatic boost in brightness, and battery life is disappointing. And then you have the subpar camera performance across the board. Still, the Red Magic 7 is the only truly powerful yet relatively affordable gaming option on the market. So if you are strictly looking into gaming handsets, the Red Magic 7 is indeed a "bang for the buck" in many ways.

RedMagic continues its tried and tested formula of using older generation components in the newer non-Pro series. Hence the RedMagic 7 gets the latest Snapdragon processor in the 6S Pro design. But the rest of the hardware such as display, cameras, speakers, buttons are a carryover. There are some changes which I like such as the new grille cutouts on the backplate and frame along with the improved cooling system. Of course, I should also mention the crazy amount of RAM and the new Snapdragon 8Gen 1. While the battery capacity is now 4500, we still get a 65W GaN charging brick and support for 120W fast charging. Two things RedMagic should improve upon. First are the cameras which are now clearly a generation behind what top-end smartphones offer. Secondly, the software needs to get rid of non-English menu options and have better translations for settings. This specifically applies to the “Game Space” section because the primary reason for purchasing this phone is that it is a gaming powerhouse.

Se il Gaming da mobile è la vostra passione Redmagic 7 Pro può senz’altro essere la soluzione che cercavate. Un hardware impressionante ed un design ricercato lo rendono appetibile anche a tutti coloro che sono semplicemente alla ricerca di un dispositivo da sfruttare nell’uso quotidiano. Il suo punto debole principale, come spesso accade su prodotti di questo segmento, è nell’ambito fotografico di conseguenza se cercate un camera phone vi conviene opzionare prodotti diveris. Interessanti invece i prezzi che sono nella norma: si parte infatti da 799€ per la versione “base” con 16 GB di RAM e 256GB di storage, per arrivare a 899€ per la colorazione Supernova da noi provata con 512 GB di memoria interna.

RedMagic 7 Pro è uno smartphone da gaming valido, che non riesce però a spiccare del tutto tra le proposte del mercato. Tuttavia, le performance garantite dal processore Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 sono al top, il sistema di raffreddamento con tanto di ventola integrata funziona bene, l'autonomia non è male e i trigger dorsali soft touch sono al loro posto. Non mancano, poi, un buon pannello AMOLED con refresh rate di 120 Hz, un reparto connettività completo di 5G, NFC e Wi-Fi 6, la ricarica a 65W e le ormai tradizionali funzionalità per il gaming. In questo contesto, è il prezzo di partenza di 799 euro a far storcere il naso, pari a 170 euro in più rispetto a quanto offerto da RedMagic 7. Sicuramente ci sono differenze sotto la scocca, ma non così marcate. Certo, c'è un chip dedicato per alleggerire il carico sul processore, così come la fotocamera sotto il display, ma all'atto pratico non si notano troppi stravolgimenti a livello di performance e i selfie non sono dei migliori. ZTE Nubia è innegabilmente un marchio che sta avendo sempre più successo in Italia. I motivi sono vari: prodotti sempre più interessanti, specifiche incredibili o comunque top di gamma, ma soprattutto delle funzionalità da gaming impossibili da trovare altrove! Con la serie REDMAGIC insomma, Nubia è tornata in auge e continua a migliorarsi sempre di più, soprattutto con il suo ultimo modello di punta: REDMAGIC 7PRO! Stiamo parlando essenzialmente di un ottimo smartphone da gaming, che tra le tante cose include anche raffreddamento liquido-aria, overclock di CPU e GPU e specifiche tecniche che faranno invidia anche al vostro PC di casa. È però nel software che si può dire REDMAGIC 7 Pro abbia il suo vero e proprio tallone d'Achille, con l'interfaccia utente proprietaria REDMAGIC OS 5.0 basata su Android 12 che appare davvero indietro rispetto anche alla concorrenza di fascia più bassa. Pur volendo soprassedere su un look dei menù obiettivamente datato, lascia interdetti vedere voci tradotte male o non tradotte affatto, caratteri sballati (persino nell'orologio!) e opzioni anche potenzialmente interessanti sepolte sotto un mare di finestre poco chiare. In termini di efficienza tutto funziona a dovere senza patemi particolari, ma per quanto riguarda la presentazione non ci siamo proprio. Rimane infine qualche dubbio in merito al supporto futuro da parte dell'azienda per quanto riguarda major release e aggiornamenti di sicurezza, dal momento che non è stato dichiarato un periodo minimo garantito.

Quindi ha ottime prestazioni, molte funzionalità legate ai videogiochi, uno schermo che rende giustizia a qualsiasi titolo e un look un po’ aggressivo. Attenzione al peso – 235 grammi – e alle dimensioni, importanti e quindi poco adatte al trasporto in tasca. Fa però quello che promette: regala un’esperienza di gioco di alto livello agli appassionati. Se state cercando uno smartphone da gaming di fascia alta, indubbiamente potrebbe soddisfare le vostre esigenze.

Con la serie REDMAGIC insomma, Nubia è tornata in auge e continua a migliorarsi sempre di più, soprattutto con il suo ultimo modello di punta: REDMAGIC 7PRO! Stiamo parlando essenzialmente di un ottimo smartphone da gaming, che tra le tante cose include anche raffreddamento liquido-aria, overclock di CPU e GPU e specifiche tecniche che faranno invidia anche al vostro PC di casa. With a front camera that is situated under the screen, the Nubia RedMagic 7 Pro allows users to enjoy content on a full notchless display area. The smartphone’s display performance really shines when playing video games because of its good management of aliasing management and touch smoothness. Gamers might get a few occasional ghost touches when playing in landscape mode, but it shouldn’t affect the gaming experience much. We observed that in some cases, video games had to be manually added to the game manager app in order to get the best performance. Outside of gaming, however, the RedMagic 7 Pro was not suited to use cases, such as night reading and watching HDR10 videos, when light conditions were low. The screen’s brightness is too low to make it comfortably readable, dark tones lack any details, and the display shows a strongly visible reddish-pink cast.

The Nubia Red Magic 7 Pro battery performance ranked in the top half of our database. When compared with all the devices in the database, the RedMagic 7 Pro’s autonomy score was slightly below average because of poor performance in high-demanding use cases such as gaming, calling, and GPS navigation. Autonomy in a moderate use was average, with decent performances when streaming videos and scrolling on social apps. The Nubia’s real power was in charging, where it showed an excellent performance with its 65W charger (global version). The charge efficiency, as well as the adapter efficiency, was outstanding, the best we’ve tested so far. The charger filled up the large 5000 mAh battery in only 28 minutes and 55 seconds, which is faster than what it takes other more powerful chargers to fill the same battery capacity. Thanks to this powerful charger, the average autonomy recovered after a 5-minute charge was among the best at 8 hours and 20 minutes. The downside to all this charging power, however, was that the residual consumption of the charger was very high, whether the smartphone was plugged in or not.

But like its predecessors, the 7 Pro falls a little short in our audio testing, with this latest device losing one point in its overall score to its predecessor, the RedMagic Pro 6, as well as losing a point on playback and five points in recording. On the plus side in playback, the 7 Pro is relatively artifact-free, reaching an excellent score in our database, and it also did quite well in our volume attribute. But the overall sound lacks both high- and low-end, and in other attributes, the device was average at best. As a recording device, the RedMagic 7 Pro is functional in terms of recording loudness and in managing Signal-to-Noise Ratio, but otherwise produced middling results.

Secondly, the software needs to get rid of non-English menu options and have better translations for settings. This specifically applies to the “Game Space” section because the primary reason for purchasing this phone is that it is a gaming powerhouse.

While getting the top version of a premium gaming phone sounds tempting for many, it isn't always the best decision. The RedMagic 7 Pro does deliver exclusive features, like an under-display camera, a smaller form factor despite a similar display size, and a bigger battery. However, this comes with a compromise. You get a slower screen that's a bit dimmer, the phone gets warmer much faster, and the thinner bezels mean the shoulder triggers can be a bit awkward to use. If you're looking for a gaming device that will let you game for as long as possible, the 5,000mAh battery on the RedMagic 7 Pro will probably give you 15 more minutes of playtime. But this slight advantage comes with a lot of tradeoffs. Given that it's a Pro version we expect this phone to be a bit more expensive than the standard models. But, even if you're paying more, you might end up with a little bit less. Unless the under-display camera or the extra fifteen minutes of play time is that important to you, I'd recommend you stick to the standard RedMagic 7 model. It'll definitely be more than enough for your gaming needs.

Le temperature sono fortemente mitigate dalla ventola, che gira 20.000 volte al minuto, ma dopo 45 minuti di gioco lo smartphone scotta in mano. E la causa è la placca, costituita da nove strati di dissipazione, montata nella parte posteriore. In questo nuovo RedMagic 7S Pro è stata ridotta di 4dB l'incidenza acustica della ventola e aumentata la pressione dell'aria del 6%. Nei fatti, la ventola è rumorosa e dopo un po' diventa quasi estenuante. Il mio consiglio è di giocare con le cuffie a filo, per avere un'esperienza acustica migliore e isolarsi dal rumore costante della ventola. Il prezzo di attacco di RedMagic 7S Pro da 12/256GB è di 779 euro e sale a 949 euro per la versione con RAM da 18GB e memoria interna da 512GB. Il prezzo per l'utente finale è alto, ma bisogna valutare i pro e i contro di questa tipologia di dispositivo: a cifre inferiori è sicuramente possibile acquistare delle console portatili, ma con un prezzo di 779 euro in questo caso si ha praticamente uno smartphone per il gaming, che in più scatta buone fotografie e permette di messaggiare e telefonare.

Il nuovo processore, così come è successo in altri smartphone, da solo è un eccellente aggiornamento che garantisce prestazioni migliorate (anche più a lungo), temperature inferiori e anche un lieve aumento di autonomia. Peccato che anche il prezzo sia salito e che alcune traduzioni approssimative siano ancora al loro posto.

REDMAGIC 7S Pro è stato immesso forse con troppa foga sul mercato, a distanza di pochi mesi dal modello precedente e con il solo vero scopo di mettere una bandierina sul nuovo SoC Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 montato anche dal diretto rivale ASUS ROG Phone 6 Pro. Il risultato è un gaming phone per larga parte indistinguibile dal 7 Pro, con poche migliorie che si notano giusto mettendo a confronto le schede tecniche ma che all'atto pratico risultano quasi impalpabili. Non si può nemmeno dire che tutto questo sia servito a prendersi la testa del segmento, dato che i benchmark non evidenziano una netta supremazia tra i due contendenti. Volendo soprassedere su tutto questo, REDMAGIC 7S Pro resta un gaming phone top di gamma dall'eccellente rapporto qualità/prezzo, anche se chiede di scendere a qualche serio compromesso (in primis software e fotocamera) che è bene tenere in considerazione.

So really, at this point, the ball is in ZTE's court. ZTE makes good phones with good to great camera setups. If that company could put the camera from the ZTE Axon 40 into this phone, I couldn't pay RedMagic fast enough for this phone and I would proudly carry it. As it stands now, it's a second phone, which is certainly a luxury for me, but that's not a realistic use case for the world at large.

Do I recommend this smartphone? Well, it is as always with Nubia: I do it without full conviction and a bit conditionally, but if you will take into account all its shortcomings when buying this smartphone, and at the same time you will be convinced by its strengths, it will not be a bad purchase... especially, that for a gaming smartphone the prices are not terribly high. The cheaper model is still quite rich in terms of memory, because it has 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal memory, and costs $729.00. You just have to accept the fact that it is only available in black (Obsydian). The more expensive model at the price of $899.00 has two colour variants, translucent or white-grey (Supernova and Mercury), and the memory set is even richer - 18 and 512 GB! As you can see, the price level is a bit lower than that of the more established gaming designs, but the latter, let's be honest, are in some respects better refined.

Even with its blistering performance I really like the battery life and charging speed. I also happen to appreciate the 3.5mm headphone jack, too. One of the trade-offs with the cooling system (ventilation grilles) is that it does not allow for any sort of water protection. That’s not a deal breaker for me, but it may be for someone else. If it were up to me, I might slow down the rate at which the REDMAGIC line introduces new models. Between the 7, 7 Pro, and 7S Pro there are three remarkably similar phones being offered.

RedMagic 8 Pro Titanium è il massimo che si possa trovare tra i gaming phone al di sotto dei 1.000 euro. Nonostante il prezzo di 799 euro rimanga elevato (anche se il modello base parte da 649 euro), si tratta di uno smartphone in grado di collocarsi ai vertici del mercato sotto più punti di vista, a partire dalle eccellenti prestazioni offerte dal SoC Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, fino ad arrivare all'ottima autonomia garantita dall'ampia batteria da 6.000 mAh e dalla ricarica a 65W. La qualità costruttiva è eccellente e il retro trasparente può fare gola a un ampio numero di appassionati (con tanto di ventola RGB e LED). RedMagic 8 Pro offre anche un eccellente display AMOLED con refresh rate di 120Hz, nonché un comparto audio d'eccezione e un comparto connettività completo di 5G e Wi-Fi 7. Questo smartphone ci ha stregati sotto più punti di vista, dai trigger alle novità software in ambito gaming. Proprio il software rimane però uno dei suoi punti deboli: si nota l'impegno profuso da RedMagic, ma non si tratta ancora di un'esperienza pulita e in linea con gran parte dei competitor, traduzione inclusa. L'altro aspetto che non ci ha convinto del tutto è il comparto fotografico, che non riesce a raggiungere le vette toccate altrove, soprattutto quando si guarda alla fotocamera posta sotto al display. Questo si aggiunge alla mancanza della ricarica wireless, all'assenza della certificazione IP e all'impossibilità di espandere la memoria interna, aspetti che vengono però messi in secondo piano dal prezzo aggressivo per il mercato degli smartphone da gaming attuale. RedMagic ha comunque fatto centro e ci ha fatto adorare RedMagic 8 Pro Titanium: in un periodo in cui i prezzi sono in ascesa, lui può sicuramente fare gola.

Chiudiamo la recensione di REDMAGIC 8 Pro con qualche riflessione sull’utilizzo dello smartphone anche al di fuori del contesto di gaming, dove, lo ribadiamo, attualmente è tra le migliori soluzioni possibili e senza dubbio quella più avanzata dal punto di vista tecnico. Chi vi scrive non è un incallito giocatore e per questo ha apprezzato alcune qualità secondarie del dispositivo, come la grande affidabilità e capacità del comparto di connettività. Il design funziona, le prestazioni sono una vera goduria e l’autonomia è merce rara se non unica nel panorama Android di fascia alta. Peccato per il modesto comparto fotografico, sarebbe stata la ciliegina sulla torta, ma d’altra parte si tratta di un prodotto pensato da cima a fondo per giocare. Insomma, se seguite il mondo degli smartphone, non disdegnate qualche minuto di gioco e non volete scendere a compromessi sull’autonomia, allora fateci un pensierino!

The only two big issues RedMagic has left to solve are dust ingress issues and sometimes shoddy software. The front camera could also use some work, but I believe it’s an acceptable sacrifice in exchange for a seamless screen.

The RedMagic 8 Pro gets a lot right with its design, display and specs for gaming, but its performance as a phone is where things start to fall apart. Even though games look and play great on the RedMagic, its confusing customization of Android 13 combined with its short software and security update commitment make the phone hard to recommend. If you buy the RedMagic 8 Pro to use as a phone, you will need to make adjustments to its settings in order to turn off or remove junk, and the less you use the front-facing camera the better. Because of these software issues and the short support commitment, I generally recommend the $1,000 Asus ROG Phone 7 Ultimate instead, even with its higher price. Its Android UI has a much lighter touch than what RedMagic provides, its gaming modes are stacked with options, it has comparable specs, photography is better and the phone offers a longer support cycle.

It appears audio was not a top priority during the conception and design of this game-oriented smartphone, and the RedMagic 8 Pro performed poorly both as a playback device with the built-in speakers and when recording sounds. Playback performance was poor across all use cases, but the Nubia did somewhat better when watching movies and gaming, than it did for music. The Nubia RedMagic 8 Pro’s excellent global battery score places the device among the Top 10 in our database and in the top spot for its segment. The device outperformed its predecessor, the Nubia RedMagic 7 Pro, because of better autonomy and efficiency, thanks mainly to a larger battery. The Nubia RedMagic 8 Pro’s autonomy lasted 2.5 days in our tests when used moderately. It had an especially good performance when in idle with screen on, which provided excellent autonomy in most test cases, particularly when gaming or streaming videos. On-the-go autonomy was also very good when using the camera or the navigation, two use cases that usually demand a lot of power. Equipped with a 65W charger, the device’s charging experience was excellent. Charging the battery from empty to full took less than 47 minutes, and a quick 5-minute charge provided more than 7 hours of autonomy. The 65W charger’s use of a new charging protocol that slows down the time to fully replenish the 6000 mAh battery should help preserve the life and performance of the device’s battery. Adapter efficiency was the best we ever measured, and the overall charge efficiency was also outstanding. However, the residual power drain of the charger was a bit high and above the average of our database. Finally, the discharge currents were low when streaming video or idling with screen on, meaning that the device was optimized for these test cases. In contrast, the discharge currents were a bit high when the phone was idle with the screen off, which is the main state of devices most of the day. Compared with devices from the Premium segment ($600-$799), the Nubia RedMagic 8 Pro ranked in the first place of our database, achieving the best autonomy score for this segment. The charging experience was also excellent, but the efficiency score was only average compared with device from the same price range.

For its price, the Redmagic 8 Pro offers unbeatable gaming performance. The Matte version, which starts at $649, is a phenomenal price for what you receive, but this low price comes with caveats. Plus, the Game Space software is a pleasure to use for everyone from streamers to casual gamers. Despite its shortcomings, the Redmagic 8 Pro is easily one of the best gaming phones to date, and $649 is an excellent price for it.

This luxurious display comes at the cost of a decent selfie shooter, though, and we'd prefer a traditional camera in a small bezel, rather than an under-display camera that offers such poor results. There is a lot to like about the nubia Red Magic 8 Pro. It offers the latest and greatest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset alongside fast UFS 4.0 storage, which translates to an amazingly smooth experience no matter what you task the phone with. Of course, gaming is the bread and butter of the Red Magic line, and the Red Magic 8 Pro excels at it like few others. Not only does it have the raw power to chew through even the heaviest modern titles, but nubia's extra Game Space software layer has gotten better than ever. We found ourselves particularly impressed with how well the Red Magic 8 Pro handles gaming on an external monitor via a display connection or through the excellent Windows game streaming software, both wired and wireless. If excellence in gaming is all you are after, then we have no issue wholeheartedly recommending the Red Magic 8 Pro. However, as a complete all-around package, it still has some rough edges that are hard to ignore. For instance, despite performing quite admirably, its display is not really on par with the industry's current high-end panels. And while we can live perfectly fine with a 120Hz refresh rate in practice, the lack of things like HDR video support and LTPO are a bit tougher to swallow. Sure, both are "nice to haves" rather than truly essential, but it's these kinds of things that ultimately add up to a great overall smartphone experience. The same goes for the camera. We definitely appreciate the upgrades to the main snapper. Those are evident. But the rest of the camera experience on the Red Magic 8 Pro tends to be lackluster and lacking in both features and performance. And last but definitely not least, as smooth and feature-rich as it is, Redmagic OS is still a half-translated mess more often than not. Even after the latest Redmagic OS 6 update running on the Red Magic 8 Pro, the state in which a lot of text, menus and options appear in the UI is very poor. Nubia has had plenty of time to address this issue, as we've reported on it for years now, but obviously, the company is not interested in perfecting that aspect for its Western audience. All of this ultimately makes the Red Magic 8 Pro an amazing Android gaming device, and a somewhat compromised Android smartphone.

Il voto che abbiamo assegnato a REDMAGIC 8S Pro deve essere letto come una sintesi tra le innovazioni che il prodotto porta effettivamente con sé rispetto al predecessore e il suo posizionamento sul mercato. Se dovessimo guardare solo al primo aspetto, risulta del tutto evidente come non si sentisse affatto il bisogno di un aggiornamento dalla portata così ridotta, con leggerissime migliorie che si contano sulle dita di mezza mano; guardando però al segmento dei gaming phone, REDMAGIC 8S Pro rimane comunque un buon affare grazie a un prezzo aggressivo (relativamente ai competitor ovviamente, non in senso assoluto) e ad una dotazione tecnica che non lascia nulla al caso. Certo è che un software che continua a non convincere per pulizia e localizzazione e l'assenza totale di garanzie per il supporto sul lungo periodo sono due fattori che è impossibile non considerare.

To sum up, I am very happy that Nubia Red Magic 8S Pro is available in Europe. The phone can be ordered from Nubia's European store. There are three versions of this model to choose from. The base version offers 12 GB RAM and 256 GB memory in black and costs about $650. Then there are versions with 16 GB RAM and 512 GB of memory in silver and black, priced at $780 and $800. It is worth mentioning that if you have the previous model, i.e. Red Magic 8 Pro, it may be worth waiting for the next generation to see if Nubia improves the interface translation and other aspects. I will also add that Google Wallet does not work on this phone for now. This may change after the update. This is a smartphone from a series that really stands out and attracts attention. It offers great speakers, a gorgeous screen, and impressive performance. You won't complain about small details such as the fingerprint reader. The quality of photos from the main camera is also decent, although slightly lower quality can be expected from the front camera, especially in lower lighting.

That variant is all-black. The ‘Platinum’ and ‘Aurora’ models come with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. Those two models are metallic silver and black with a see-through back, and they do have different price tags. The ‘Platinum’ costs $779, while the ‘Aurora’ model costs $779. Those are still truly appealing price tags. If you like gaming on your phone, and you do appreciate great performance above everything, the RedMagic 8S Pro may be the phone for you. The fact it doesn’t have a display camera hole, and has a ton of gaming features is a huge plus.

Nubia has plenty of experience with gaming phones at this point and it shows. The OEM knows how to put together a great gaming phone without much fluff. Despite its flaws like not-so-amazing camera experience, awkwardly translated UI and the lack of HDR support, the new 8S Pro is a solid gaming solution. We still like the design carried over from the 8 Pro and even managed to improve upon cooling. The 8S Pro has by far one of the best, if not the best, cooling solution we've tested. Continuous and strenuous workloads are a non-issue for the 8S Pro, so long gaming sessions shouldn't be a problem too. Display is great and battery life is impressive, to say the least, especially considering that the cell has to power up the overclocked Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. And, of course, the gaming-centric features are, as always nice and thoughtful for the better part.

All in all, the RedMagic 8S Pro is a very similar phone to the RedMagic 8 Pro. The previous model debuted as one of the fastest gaming phones on the market, and its successor is doing the same thing. To summarise what's changed - the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 comes with an overclock, the cooling solution has been improved, there's a new OS with extra gaming features and the styling has been updated. I love the new look, especially the subtle transparent fan window on an otherwise opaque rear panel. The gaming performance is impressive to see in benchmarks, but I wouldn't say it's very noticeable in practice. The system is far less buggy this time around, though. I had one major hiccup, but I'm confident this will be patched soon enough. I wouldn't recommend this as an upgrade for RedMagic 8 Pro owners, it's simply too similar. But for anyone else, it's a small improvement on what was already one of the best gaming phones. If you're looking for pure performance, look no further.

All in all, this is a strong handset. Performance is on par with anything else I've been hands on with, with the battery life even outstripping them slightly. The biggest downfall is probably the camera. As mentioned above, the main sensor is definitely good enough for most, but the others are lacking. That might be a deal-breaker for some. Regardless, it's worth a look. Take away the gaming credentials of the handset for a second – you're getting an 8 Gen 2 powered handset with a crisp, 6.8-inch display and a whopping battery for less than £750. That's a bargain. For gamers, it's a no-brainer, but even those in the hunt for a regular phone with a slightly more modest budget should give this a look.

La parte gaming è ovviamente curata nei minimi dettagli con tutta una sezione software a essa dedicata e richiamabile tramite l’iconico tasto fisico rosso presente sul frame. Presenti inoltre i trigger soft touch programmabili e posizionati comodamente sul lato superiore del device quando questo è utilizzato in modalità orizzontale, proprio come una vera e propria consolle portatile. In un segmento come quello dei gaming phone, nel quale bisogna continuamente spingere sull'acceleratore per dare l'illusione di offrire qualcosa di mai visto prima, la strategia piuttosto conservativa che Nubia ha adottato con questo REDMAGIC 9 Pro ci ha lasciato un po' interdetti: è vero, il SoC è nuovo di zecca e porta con sé abbastanza potenza da far segnare nuovi record nei benchmark, ma per il resto le poche novità riguardano elementi marginali, con diverse lacune storiche della gamma ancora ben visibili. Ben vengano dunque delle fotocamere finalmente migliorate e un design sempre meno pacchiano, ma se il software lascia ancora molto a desiderare, la traduzione è rimasta al palo e il supporto sul lungo periodo rimane una (brutta) incognita, è evidente che non si è agito dove c'era più bisogno. Il design a me è piaciuto molto ma capisco possa essere non per tutti e poi ho riscontrato alcuni bug software di gioventù e una scivolosità non indifferente oltre che le camere solo mediocri. Se questi difetti non vi spaventano avrete però un bello smartphone, costruito bene e super prestante.

The RedMagic 9 Pro is a stylish and unique phone that puts gaming first. It features advanced cooling to control heat and speed up performance, one of the largest batteries available in a phone, and lots of tools to customize its behavior and gameplay. All that power makes the RedMagic 9 Pro a fine smartphone for everyday tasks, as well. We wish the camera and speakers were a bit better, while the murky upgrade path and lack of an IP rating give us pause. Those seeking a more balanced phone experience, however, might prefer the Editors' Choice-winning Google Pixel 8 or Galaxy S23 Ultra for their better cameras, waterproof chassis, and long-term update commitments.

The Redmagic 9 Pro is an excellent gaming phone. Plenty of power under the hood, dedicated hardware, impressive cooling and great battery life mean the gaming experience is consistently fantastic. But it also achieves the rare feat of being a solid day-to-day phone. The cameras are better than expected (aside from the dodgy selfie one) and can deliver very usable photos and videos. The software is also easy to use, provided you don’t mind some bloatware and the occasional bug. So the only real barrier is the sheer size and weight of the device. Like most gaming phones, it’s a bit of a beast, so it’s still only really worth buying if you love playing games.

The RedMagic 9 Pro is an impressive gaming phone on all fronts, especially considering its low asking price. You simply will not find a better performer for the money. Adding to its appeal are the slick looks, the beautiful display, the powerful speakers and the suite of useful gaming enhancements. It’s not all sunshine and roses, though. There’s no IP rating, no wireless charging and, at present, some issues with Netflix DRM certification. All of which could prove to be deal breakers. There’s also the under-display selfie camera, which isn’t going to impress avid selfie snappers. They should take a look at the Vivo V29, instead. The RedMagic 9 Pro values gaming performance above all else, and if you do too, you’ll be absolutely delighted with this phone.

Overall, the Red Magic 9 Pro is a capable gaming smartphone with tons of useful gaming features, excellent design, and probably one of the best, if not the best, price/performance ratios currently on the market. Kudos to nubia for maintaining its competitive pricing. However, it's hard to get over the fact that this is the first Red Magic phone to overheat under prolonged loads. We checked, and every single Red Magic phone we've tested kept its cool under prolonged loads. That used to be its shtick, and now it's gone. Also, the display is not as competitive in brightness and HDR capabilities, the software still needs better translation, and the high refresh rate gaming is still a hit-and-miss.

Vs the 8S Pro, you can expect plenty of upgrades. That Qualcomm chipset is just one massive factor, which means you can play Genshin Impact without a single judder in the 60FPS frame rate for over an hour. The Red Magic 9 Pro also boosts the battery size to 6500mAh, and you can play Genshin for well over five hours before the phone runs dry. The camera tech is basic, but fine for simple everyday shots. Nubia has added the usual excellent range of gamer features, including a pair of pressure-sensitive triggers. Now with strong haptic feedback. Plus, the upgraded ICE cooling system does a marvellous job, with a surprisingly silent fan.

Chip grafico per smartphone e tablet integrato nel SoC Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Qualcomm sostiene che è il 30% più veloce dell'Adreno 660 nel SoC Snapdragon 888. Per Android dovrebbe essere una delle schede grafiche più veloci alla fine del 2021.

Qualcomm Adreno 740:

Chip grafico per smartphone e tablet integrato nel SoC Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. SD 865: SoC di fascia alta per smartphone che è stato introdotto alla fine del 2019 e prodotto in 7 nm al TSMC (migliorato N7P). Integra un "Prime Core" basato su un'architettura ARM Cortex-A77 con clock fino a 2,84 GHz. Altri tre core di prestazioni sono anch'essi basati sull'A77 ma con clock fino a 2,42 GHz. Inoltre, sono integrati quattro core a risparmio energetico basati sull'architettura ARM Cortex-A55 con clock fino a 1,8 GHz. Oltre ai core del processore, il SoC integra un modem WiFi 6 (incluso il supporto mmWave a 60 GHz), un Hexagon 698 DSP (fino a 15 TOPS) e uno Spectra 480 ISP. Il controller di memoria integrato supporta ora una memoria LPDDR5 più veloce con un massimo di 2.750 MHz. LTE non è più incluso nel SoC, ma si deve usare il modem esterno Snapdragon X55 5G.
