The ZenBook 14 is an excellent mainstream notebook from ASUS with lots to like and little to fault. The overall design is outstanding, especially when you consider it is more compact than most 13-inch notebooks and it even meets the MIL-STD-810 standards for ruggedness. It also has a ton of useful and thoughtful features too, such as the ErgoLift hinge, the NumberPad, and full-size USB-A and HDMI ports. General performance was good too and the battery life is decent for a system with its specifications. And then there’s its attractive price. The only things that count against it are the lackluster graphics performance, lack of Thunderbolt 3 support, and the narrow trackpad. All things considered, it’s one of the best bang for buck notebooks you can buy, thus earning our Best Value seal of approval.

Intel Core Ultra 7 provato su Asus Zenbook 14: quanto consuma e quanto va forte Meteor Lake

Asus ha fatto la sua parte, ma era anche decisamente semplice: aveva già una buonissima base su cui partire e per il nuovo modello doveva solo ottimizzare il tutto. Restano quelle che possono o essere le criticità di una macchina compatta, come la RAM saldata (l'SSD è sostituibile), ma ormai questo sembra il trend. C’è autonomia, c’è uno schermo OLED ottimo e tastiera e trackpad funzionano davvero bene: ad un notebook non si può chiedere di meglio. Meteor Lake può essere considerato un punto di partenza: sarebbe interessante valutarlo anche su altre piattaforme perché l’impressione è che Asus abbia voluto mettere un processore della serie H in una scocca dove forse stava meglio un serie U, quindi un Ultra Low Voltage. Ci saremmo aspettati qualcosa in più lato prestazioni, e sicuramente la parte CPU prodotta con il nuovo nodo Intel 4 è tra i tre aspetti quello più deludente: grafica e autonomia sono un grande passo in avanti.

Meteor Lake può essere considerato un punto di partenza: sarebbe interessante valutarlo anche su altre piattaforme perché l’impressione è che Asus abbia voluto mettere un processore della serie H in una scocca dove forse stava meglio un serie U, quindi un Ultra Low Voltage. Ci saremmo aspettati qualcosa in più lato prestazioni, e sicuramente la parte CPU prodotta con il nuovo nodo Intel 4 è tra i tre aspetti quello più deludente: grafica e autonomia sono un grande passo in avanti.

Asus ha fatto la sua parte, ma era anche decisamente semplice: aveva già una buonissima base su cui partire e per il nuovo modello doveva solo ottimizzare il tutto. Restano quelle che possono o essere le criticità di una macchina compatta, come la RAM saldata (l'SSD è sostituibile), ma ormai questo sembra il trend. But now, let me add some more. Given that I have reviewed the top variant of the Zenbook 14 OLED, I can only give my recommendation about it. See the hardware difference between the base variant and the top variant is quite significant - for example, you may not get the same battery life in the base variant because that laptop uses an older Core i5 processor. But this one - the top variant of the Asus Zenbook 14 OLED - is in my opinion one of the best, like totally totally best, work laptops you can buy. It is fast, it looks great, its battery life is phenomenal, its screen is one of the best I have seen, and its keyboard and trackpad are nifty. It is an all-rounder, and the fact that it weighs just 1.3 kgs makes it all the more appealing. In other words, if you are looking for a premium work or college laptop, or just a laptop that you can carry with you everywhere, the Zenbook 14 OLED perfectly fits the bill. Sure, it is expensive but then all good things in one way or another are.

Overall, the ZenBook 14 OLED is a cracking laptop, then. Performance is solid, battery life is good, it has a great screen and ergonomics and build quality is top notch. With prices starting at £1,099, it’s strong competition for the likes of the 13.6in and 15in MacBook Air. As a showcase for Intel’s latest CPU, however, I’d have to say the jury’s out right now. Battery life is good for a Windows machine in this class but it still lags behind the likes of Apple’s M3 MacBook Pro and there isn’t much, if any, of a performance bump over the previous generation of Intel processors.

With its thin and light design, the Asus Zenbook 14 OLED can’t quite show off the full potential of Intel’s new Core 7 Ultra CPU, but it makes a great demonstration of how the new architecture is enabling manufacturers to reach higher levels of performance from an ultraportable device. It comfortably tops similar devices from the previous generation, like the Dell XPS 13 Plus (2023), and even larger ones, like the Asus Zenbook 15 OLED and LG Gram SuperSlim. In fact, with its fantastic OLED screen and comfortable ergonomics, the Asus could work as a creator’s laptop or a business machine, or just about anything else bar a full-blooded gaming PC. Here the new Arc iGPU is a huge improvement on Intel’s earlier integrated graphics tech – and serious competition for AMD’s fastest APUs in the likes of the Acer Swift Edge 16 – but still not in the same league as dedicated hardware. If you want more gaming capabilities, you’ll need to look for something bigger, heavier and faster, but this is a brilliant and versatile ultraportable for everyone else.

Asus: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. è un importante produttore taiwanese di hardware per computer con sede a Taipei, fondato nel 1989. Con il marchio Asus, l'azienda produce un'ampia gamma di prodotti, tra cui laptop, desktop, schede madri, schede grafiche, monitor, smartphone e apparecchiature di rete , sistemi completi e componenti PC per utenti finali.
Con il marchio ROG (Republic of Gamers), ASUS produce laptop da gioco conosciuti dai giocatori per le loro potenti specifiche, schede grafiche dedicate, display ad alta frequenza di aggiornamento e sistemi di raffreddamento avanzati.
Oltre ai giochi, viene offerta un'ampia gamma di notebook per esigenze e budget diversi, dagli ultrabook ultrasottili e leggeri ai versatili convertibili 2 in 1 e alle opzioni economiche. Nel 2023, Asus deteneva una quota di mercato globale del 7% del mercato dei PC.
La soddisfazione del cliente per i notebook ASUS riguarda le prestazioni, le caratteristiche e il buon rapporto prezzo-prestazioni dei notebook ASUS. Tuttavia, come con qualsiasi marca, ci sono segnalazioni occasionali di problemi come surriscaldamento, compatibilità dei driver o problemi di qualità costruttiva.
Ridurre la distanza delle Schede Grafiche per gli utenti che vogliono utilizzare il videogiochi. I nuovi giochi dovrebbero funzionare su queste schede, ma con riduzione dei dettagli e risoluzione mediocre.
NVIDIA GeForce MX150:
Scheda grafica per laptop basata su Pascal GP108 e versione mobile della GeForce GT 1030. Offre 384 core shader e solitamente 2 GB GDDR5 con un bus di memoria a 64 bit. Realizzata in 14 nm.
Intel UHD Graphics 620:
GPU integrata (GT2, 24 EUs) si trova su alcuni modelli CPU Kaby-Lake-Refresh (15 W ULV series). Tecnicamente è identica alla precedente GPU Kaby-Lake chiamata HD Graphics 620.
NVIDIA GeForce MX250:
Successore dell'MX150 e ancora basata sullo stesso chip Pascal GP108 (simile alla desktop GT 1030) ma con velocit‡ di clock pi˘ elevate. Disponibile in due versioni, una versione normale da 25 Watt e una versione a bassa potenza con TDP da 10 Watt e prestazioni ridotte. La versione da 25 Watt, ad esempio, offre un clock boost del 21% in pi˘ rispetto alla vecchia MX150, con un guadagno di prestazioni del 5%.

Scheda grafica integrata delle APU Ryzen basate sull'architettura Vega con 8 CU (= 512 shaders) e un clock fino a 1.750 MHz.
Queste schede grafiche dovrebbero essere in grado di far funzionare tutti i giochi attuali con un framerates fluido ma rinunciando al livello di dettaglio massimo. Specialmente i giochi impegnativi come Crysis, Age of Conan, o Mass Effect sono utilizzabili soltanto con impostazioni grafiche ridotte. I giochi meno pesanti (e più datati), come Fifa 08, Command & Conquer 3, o Battlefield 2142 possono essere giocati con livello di dettagli più alto.
Intel Arc 8-Cores: Scheda grafica integrata basata sull'architettura Xe LPG (simile alle GPU Arc dedicate, ma con un focus sull'efficienza). Fornisce tutti gli 8 core Xe (128 motori vettoriali Xe) e 8 unità di ray-tracing.

i7-8565U: Processore quad-core a bassa potenza basato su Whiskey Lake (tecnicamente identico al Kaby Lake ma prodotto in un processore a 14nm++ ulteriormente migliorato). I quattro core sono clockati tra 1,8 e 4,6 GHz (Turbo Boost) e supportano HyperThreading.
Intel Kaby Lake Refresh:
i5-8250U:
Processore quad-core a bassa potenza basato sul Kaby-Lake-Refresh. I quattro core hanno un clock tra 1,6 e 3,4 GHz (Turbo Boost) e supportano l'HyperThreading. La GPU integrata ha un clock compreso tra 300 e 1.100 MHz. Il SoC è prodotto con un processo FinFET da 14 nm+.
Intel Core i5:
AMD Picasso (Ryzen 3000 APU):
R5 3500U: APU mobile Quad-Core che utilizza core Zen+ con clock da 2,2 a 3,8 GHz e una scheda grafica Vega con 8 CU con clock fino a 1200 MHz.
R7 3700U: APU mobile Quad-Core che utilizza core Zen+ con clock da 2,3 a 4 GHz e una scheda grafica Vega con 10 CU con clock fino a 1400 MHz.
Intel Comet Lake:
i7-10510U: Processore quad-core a bassa potenza basato su Comet Lake (tecnicamente identico a Whiskey Lake e ancora prodotto in 14nm++). I core della CPU possono clockare tra 1,8 e 4,9 GHz (tutti e 4 i 4 core a 4,3 GHz max.) con HyperThreading (8 thread). Il controller di memoria integrato supporta DDR4-2666 e utilizzando cTDP su/giù le prestazioni possono essere regolate dall'OEM (10 - 25 Watt possibili, 15W di default).
i5-10210U: Processore quad-core a bassa potenza basato su Comet Lake (tecnicamente identico a Whiskey Lake e ancora prodotto in 14nm++). I core della CPU possono clockare tra 1,6 e 4,2 GHz (tutti e 4 i core a 3,9 GHz max.) con HyperThreading (8 thread). Il controller di memoria integrato supporta DDR4-2666 e utilizzando cTDP su/giù le prestazioni possono essere regolate dall'OEM (10 - 25 Watt possibili, 15W di default). Rispetto al più veloce i5-10510U, la cache di livello 3 è stata ridotta da 8 a 6 MB.
AMD Renoir (Ryzen 4000 APU):
R7 4700U: APU mobile Octa-Core che utilizza core Zen 2 con clock da 2 a 4 GHz e una scheda grafica Vega con 7 CU con clock fino a 1600 MHz. Rispetto al più veloce 4800U, il 4700U offre una velocità di clock di boost leggermente inferiore e non supporta SMT / Hyperthreading.
AMD Lucienne (Zen 2, Ryzen 5000):
R7 5700U:
APU Octa-Core mobile che utilizza core Zen 2 con clock da 1,8 a 4,3 GHz e una scheda grafica Vega con 8 CU con clock fino a 1900 MHz.
AMD Cezanne (Zen 3, Ryzen 5000):
R7 7730U: Un'APU octa-core basata su Zen 3 per i computer portatili che funziona da 2 GHz a 4,5 GHz e presenta l'iGPU Vega 8 (8 CU con clock fino a 2.000 MHz). Aggiornamento del 2022 Ryzen 7 5825U con le stesse specifiche.
Intel Intel Meteor Lake-H:
Ultra 7 155H: Un chip Meteor Lake di fascia alta che ha debuttato nel dicembre 2023. Questo processore Core Ultra di 1a generazione è arrivato a sostituire i chip Core di 13a generazione; ha 16 core (6 + 8 + 2) e 22 thread a disposizione. I core Performance, che sono 6, funzionano fino a 4,8 GHz, mentre i core Efficient, che sono 10 (8 core principali più 2 extra che si trovano nell'isola Low Power), funzionano fino a 3,8 GHz. La NPU AI Boost integrata offre due motori Gen 3 per l'accelerazione hardware dei carichi di lavoro AI. Il consumo energetico "minimo assicurato" di questo processore laptop è di 28 W, mentre il consumo energetico Turbo dovrebbe rimanere entro i 115 W.
