Tutto ciò però senza dimenticarvi del prezzo, un fattore davvero da tenere in conto. Stiamo parlando di circa 2000€ per il tablet ASUS Flow Z13 e di 1299€ per XG Mobile. Una wombo combo davvero notevole che però richiederà una spesa esosa. Giustificata? Assolutamente si. Sebbene tale cifra sia in linea con gli standard dei laptop da gaming o sia persino inferiore a quella di un vero e proprio PC da gaming fisso, non dobbiamo dimenticarci dell’estrema versatilità dei prodotti e dalla tecnologia ad hoc al loro interno. Un investimento adeguato per avere a disposizione quel micidiale mix di design, potenza e versatilità che questo ASUS Flow Z13, insieme all’XG Mobile sono in grado di offrire.

Allo stesso tempo ci sono alcuni limiti, innanzitutto di prezzo: circa 2.200 euro per la versione testata, a cui ne vanno aggiunti altri 1.000 e passa per mettere sulla scrivania anche il modulo XG Mobile dotato di RTX 3080. In totale la configurazione testata si aggira attorno a 3.500 euro. La scelta di affiancare un i9 12900H a una RTX 3050Ti crea un collo di bottiglia piuttosto evidente e si somma a una serie di problemini di gioventù, ad esempio legati alla disponibilità di porte e ai tempi di risposta non ottimali dello schermo, che ulteriori future revisioni potranno di certo mitigare. Ad oggi il Flow Z13 resta un prodotto di nicchia, aspirazionale per l'utenza appassionata di videogiochi che negli anni ha visto diventare sempre più sottili e performanti i computer da gioco e ora sogna un ultimo salto verso la massima versatilità.

L'ASUS Flow Z13 con modulo XG Mobile deve fare i conti con una CPU frenata e una rumorosità rilevante, ma si tratta di compromessi comprensibili considerando che parliamo di un processore per laptop di fascia altissima montato in un tablet e di una 3080 Laptop infilata in un modulo esterno facile da trasportare e, tutto sommato, piuttosto leggero. Da qui l'elevata versatilità di un doppio prodotto che offre un gran valore anche con il solo tablet, laddove il Core i9-12900H è affiancato comunque a una GPU discreta entry level, garantendo gaming in 30 FPS e una potenza computazionale da laptop impacchettata in un tablet da 13.4" con schermo touchscreen da 120 Hz. Peccato solo per i tempi di risposta elevati di quest'ultimo che si traducono in scie visibili nel gaming ad alta velocità, ma anche questa scelta va considerata nel quadro generale, quello di un dispositivo in grado di diventare un desktop replacement ultra-compatto con tavoletta grafica, in grado di garantire prestazioni elevate anche in 1440p e quindi di sfruttare un buon monitor esterno.

I’ve tried a few gaming laptops over the years and generally arrive at the same core issue: you give up too much performance for not enough portability. However, Asus’ ROG Flow Z13 2-in-1 is a gaming laptop I wouldn’t mind carrying around. While likely not everyone agrees, for me, I find it a tough tradeoff to make. Generally, I want my laptops to be as portable as possible — thin, light, small, etc. I expect lower performance accordingly, but that’s okay since I make up for it with a large, bulky desktop with tons of performance for when I need it. Gaming laptops tend to walk a fine line of being technically portable while also managing to be obnoxious to carry around. They’re big, heavy, loud, and the battery dies if you spend more than an hour away from an outlet. They tend to be covered in gaudy RGB, giant fan grilles and sport weird designs. None of these things are explicitly bad, but I don’t look for them on a laptop.

Plus, unlike a traditional gaming laptop with bottom-firing heat vents that can quickly make it hard to keep it in one's lap, the Asus ROG Flow doesn't offer any such thermal discomfort. If you're concerned about raw performance, know that this machine can handle even the most demanding workflow. Overall, the Asus ROG Flow Z13 is a one-of-its-kind machine that is a jack of many trades, and won't leave you wanting for a lot more. That is if you are willing to pay for all those conveniences and are willing to ignore other more reasonable options.

It is undeniably one of the most unique computing products on the market today and the device is flush with high-end hardware, including the latest Intel 12th-gen H-series processors, DDR5 memory and even discrete GPU options from Nvidia. Despite that, the device is but a slightly chunkier Surface Pro and it’s mind-boggling to think of all the hardware that is crammed inside the machine. Be that as it may, the form factor is questionable for gaming and it isn’t entirely practical either. The experience just doesn’t compare to a regular clamshell or 2-in-1 convertible laptop. The only benefit of the form factor though is that you get better (if not the best) cooling as all the core components are on the top and get an uninterrupted supply of airflow.

The discrete RTX 3050Ti graphics model of the Z13 retails for $3499 and ASUS’s external GPU accessory adds another $1699 to the total. The reality is that the 3050Ti graphics chip doesn’t deliver the performance that PC gamers expect at this price. Springing for the eGPU accessory adds bulk, weight and cost to the equation that makes choosing a similarly powerful gaming laptop a less complicated and less expensive choice.

With performance that’s truly unmatched by tablet standards, ROG Flow Z13 will appeal not only to gamers, but also to content makers and anyone who needs a powerful yet mobile device. And, of course, it is impossible not to note the complete set: it has everything just out of the box, from a bag-case to a stylus and a mouse. The Z13 format gives a lot of freedom in its use. Work on it with your fingers or a stylus as on a standard tablet, if you like; connect a keyboard and mouse and get a laptop, if you wish;add a monitor and use it as a portable PC, if you want. The Asus ROG Flow Z13 is essentially the Microsoft Surface Pro by design with performance of a gaming laptop. Its tablet form factor and multi-utility orientation make it a first-of-its-kind device with portability of a screen, versatility of a tablet, and performance of a laptop. Importantly, it works well in all supported formats. That said, the Asus ROG Flow Z13 ticks the right boxes. But its underwhelming on-battery time puts a stinker on the otherwise well rounded package.

As a gaming PC, the biggest competitor to the ROG Flow Z13 is not any laptop or tablet… its actually the Steam Deck by Valve. With both machines able to transform into a gaming PC, the Steam Deck trumps the ROG Flow Z13 by being handheld playable and with gamepad controls already. As a work computer, the ROG Flow Z13 easily wins over the Steam Deck though as the option to do work is always present while the Deck doesn’t have this option and tethers you to a larger screen. Ultimately, the best use-case here would be a work-by-day/play-by-night scenario wherein your ROG Flow Z13 is your handy daily computer for study or work and once work is done or the weekends come around, you connect a gamepad to your Flow Z13 and hook it up to your XG Mobile connected to a monitor to serve as your gaming PC. Keeping in mind the limitations we’ve mentioned that’s unique to tablets, ROG has made the most with the form factor and future technologies will certainly improve on the weight, battery and thickness of this device but for now the ROG Flow Z13 is a really incredible device and matched for a specific use-case

The ASUS ROG Flow Z13 is a testament to how technology has evolved. It packs a lot of power inside this small form factor that you can easily use on the go. There aren’t a lot of compromises when it comes to this laptop at this size and it’s hard to find a competition that allows you to do so much with such a small device. Priced at PHP 99,995, the ASUS ROG Flow Z13 gives you a lot for the price, especially against competitors who offer bulky laptops for around the same price. The XG Mobile meanwhile with the RTX 3080 is priced at PHP 89,995. With the versatility this device allows you, you can expect to pay a premium, but in my opinion? It’s all worth it to have a device that can do so much in such a small form factor. As they say, to be at the forefront of technology comes at a price, in this case, it’s all well worth it. Want to catch your favourite Netflix show on the couch? Fold the detachable keyboard to the back or remove it completely and place it on your lap. Do you love mixing EDM tracks? Connect a DJ controller to it and the Flow Z13’s touchscreen and kickstand allow you to turn it into a mixer. Oh, you really want to play high-end games too? Guess what, you can connect an ROG XG Mobile eGPU that’s powered by a GeForce RTX 3080 (the eGPU is sold separately) and turn it into a gaming powerhouse. In fact, the Flow Z13 is a great device for cloud-gaming services (hello, StarHub's GeForceNow). I truly considered the ROG Flow Z13 one of the gaming company’s best innovations yet. Granted, the ROG Flow Z13 is also arguably ahead of its time. But if anything, it offers a wondrous peek at what the future of “mobile” gaming could possibly look like. Asus ROG Flow Z13 follow-up review – Iris Xe (GZ301ZA model), eGPU ROG XG Mobile performance

Bottom point, the ROG Flow Z13 is an excellent match for an eGPU. Its advantages are the powerful CPU performance paired with an excellent thermal module that allows for good temperatures and quiet fans. The experience with the XG Mobile, on the other hand, can be improved. I didn’t get to properly test this last year, but having spent time with it now, I’m not happy with the internal GPU temperatures or the fact that the chip ends up thermally throttled in gaming sessions and longer GPU-heavy workloads. Hopefully, the 2022 XG Mobile update changes things, as it’s a slightly larger format with perhaps improved cooling capacity. However, if you’re planning on running your games and workloads on an external monitor and not sending the signal back to the 13-inch display of the Z13, you could also consider a Thunderbolt eGPU enclosure with this device. That way, you’re not tied to the few options available with the XG Mobile and its unconvincing cooling module, and also get to place a full-power graphics chip in your eGPU unit.

Okay, I’ll admit it. I’m excited about a tablet of all things. It’s hard not to be when it has such powerful specs. Now is the Asus ROG Flow Z13 going to be the portable gaming solution to end all our problems? No. While the Nvidia RTX 3050 Ti GPU will allow it to play older titles at lower settings, in order to truly unlock the power, you’ll definitely need the XG Station, which makes it markedly less grab-and-go. Still, what Asus has accomplished with the Flow Z13 is seriously encouraging, particularly with the design, keyboard and display. I’m just hoping it won’t cost an arm, leg, soul and first-borne babe to play around with this intriguing piece of tech. Either way, I’m excited to get a consumer model and get to testing.

Queste schede grafiche dovrebbero essere in grado di far funzionare tutti i giochi attuali con un framerates fluido ma rinunciando al livello di dettaglio massimo. Specialmente i giochi impegnativi come Crysis, Age of Conan, o Mass Effect sono utilizzabili soltanto con impostazioni grafiche ridotte. I giochi meno pesanti (e più datati), come Fifa 08, Command & Conquer 3, o Battlefield 2142 possono essere giocati con livello di dettagli più alto.
